Mestia to USHGULI, Svaneti Georgia // Overland series ep. 12

The way from Mestia to Ushguli is famous not only for the 4-day Hike but also for the bad road. We did them both.
In this episode we are picking up the action right where we left off last time, climbing the muddy slope above Mestia to reach the Korudi lakes. It was much harder than we expected, but we managed to find an outstanding wild camp spot below the Korudi lakes, where we stayed the night.
The next morning we made our way up to see the lakes. It is a nice hike, sadly the lake was still frozen over and covered in snow (end of May). Irati tried to go higher but there was too much snow. So we went sooner than expected back to Mestia to have lunch and enjoyed the Independence day festivities. Later that day we made our way to Adishi where Irati wanted to start the hike. This is part of the famous Mestia- Ushguli trail (specifically Adishi to Iprali). She left early the next day, with Mike, Alina, and her Mother who were so nice to let her join them for the trek. This part of the trail is one of the hardest as it has the greatest elevation gain and there is a pass above 2700m which only clears out of snow by the end of May. We were lucky and even though there was snow, the path was doable. Just a note, the river crossing we did it by a horse because we had it reserved in advance as the river could be really high at this time of the year. But it was absolutely not necessary. It was fun tho.
In the meantime, Kai finished another video for the Tube and then drove the bluelandy to Iprali to pick them up, and continue our way to Ushguli.
Enjoy the ride!

About our Chanel:
We, Kai & Irati from Germany and Spain, are currently on a full-time Overland journey to the East. We want to roughly follow the old Silk Road. Visiting Turkey, Georgia, Iran, and hopefully the Pamir region. Our further tour strongly depends on the political situation in the countries laying ahead like Turkmenistan, Azerbaijan or Uzbekistan. We quit our jobs, and our apartment and left Germany mid of March 2022 to spend the next year on the road.

We’ll do a roomtour, but unfortunately that will still take some time. I guess it could be possible in 10-12 weeks.

sliding backwards downhill :-( Again great video 👍 An energy saver from Granny's Kitchen: you just need 1-2 cm of water to boil eggs! Keep the lid closed after you put them in. Water vapor is even hotter than the boiling water. Much Less water to heat up. 🤓
