I love Messi, but I saw Pele when i was a kid.. . Maybe It's nostalgia, but Pele will always be the greatest for me.. I'm not from Argentina or Brazil, but that #10 on a Brazilian shirt will always stand out!!! My opinion.. I do respect Messi.. Happy he finally won the World Cup.. finally.. It’s so terrible that they didn’t point out that Pelé scored 650 goals in 694 appearances if we remove friendlies. That’s incredible. Messi has scored 576 goals in 660 appearances which is also amazing but Messi will never be as good of a goal scorer as Pelé at this rate. For Messi to catch up, he’d have to average 2.17 goals a game for now on.

Pele is the GOAT because he was way way way ahead of his time. Nobody could've imagined that it was humanly possible to play football like Pele in the 50s. Everybody else was playing with only their feet. Than comes Pele doing the same stuff Ronaldinho was doing, but 50 years earlier. Before Messi, there was already Maradona. Yes, Messi is better than Maradona, but Messi is only an improvement. There's a difference between improvement and innovation. Pele is innovation. He's similar to what Michael Jordan did to basketball.

Okay but so what if he has three world cups the most goals he ever got was six and that was in his first one he was out scored by someone on his own team in the second World Cup he got injured for most of it and Brazil still won without him playing quarter finals and on without him and in his third one he only had four goals and two of them were in the final so you know he didn’t actually take his team to the World Cup he was just one of the players that was when they made it and if you watch some games and there is footage you can tell that other Brazilian players within his team were more effective than him I don’t think I consider pele a goat at all more like a product of his own advertisement where he marketed himself in a time of poor media to make everyone call him the best he would go out and have unofficial matches with unprofessional players and he would get a crowd and he would play and score on them to show everyone how good he was lmao can y’all imagine messi going out and getting a crowd to watch him beat random people in a football match to prove his greatness just sounds like a joke oh and guess what he counted those goals too

Pele is the best ever. Ppl need to look past the grainy footage of Pele and see how complete he was and what he could actually do on the pitch and and how he was manipulating the ball with either foot. He was also a traditional number 10 which means he played slightly further back but still managed to score so many goals. His assists if they kept records would have been even more incredible. Ppl also forget to note that although he didn't play in Europe the Brazilian league was tops then and Pele Santos destroyed the European greats teams at the time. In todays modern age we get drawn in by stats and words of pundits etc. Because of this ppl say stupid things like the offside rule wasn't invented when Pele played which is ridiculous as it was actually stricter then. Also star players are more protected now than back then. Also ppl need to stop slating Maradona and saying Messi is miles better. Maradona played even further back than all 3 therefore his primary objective was to help his team. Messi is amazing and one of the greatest ever. But let's not forget that he plays well in a system he knows well. Outside of this system he is still amazing but he is not as effective.

I am a big fan and believe he is the best player in the modern era. However there are many factors that have helped him achieve amazing things at club level. Notice how I said CLUB Level. Messi is a system player when this system doesn't work. Let's be honest he struggles and the blame is laid on everyone else but him. Regarding better goal scorer. Watch Pele again and again and you ll see that he has many more Goal scoring attributes. The eras are too different. The argument regarding Pele doing well in this modern times with better equipment etc needs to be brought into account. However it applies the other way round also for Messi. Firstly there is his childhood medical issues which would have had a massive impact. Also his style of play is not suited to that era as he would have had to play differently to deal with man marking over zonal marking of today. Messi is a genius at attacking the space and identify it. It is more difficult to find space if your man marked by one or two players. This rarely happens today. The other factor is aggressive tackles from behind, plus horrible playing surfaces etc... I could go on and on. The question is could Messi survive that and have a prolonged career? Pele would actually thrive in the modern game as Messi himself said that the awful conditions he played in Argentina as a child impacted his game today. Well Pele conditions were worse. Some of the greatest players of the past were actually Technically better than they have been credited for. The problem is when ppl completly rubbish Pele and past legends is what is the problem. Today's game is faster. But let's be honest it's been tweeked and star players are afforded a lot of protection today. Hence careers lasting very long etc. The number of games incl friendlies games Pele played in a year plus the places around the world he had to play resulted in what would be today considered cruelty. Listen I am a big fan if Messi and have taken the time to study both players. 1960s football league in Brazil was tops. Furthermore I never said that Pele has the highest amount of goals of all time. It was given to European players back then. Therefore even if Messi dominated that era he wouldn't have won it. Messi is properbly the best or one of the best dribbler of all time. But his era has helped him also. I never once said Pele was a better dribbler. Who is the best dribbler ever is a different debate altogether. Players today for a fact are afforded more protection than past players. Man marking by one or two players who constantly kick you on purpose is horrible and it difficult to find space. Do you agree on this simple point. One of the worse man marking I saw was actually what Maradona had to endure. Do you deny this could impact his influence if he had to face this constantly? Looking back, Messi has had many chances to knock the 81 year old Pelé’s crown as the greatest to ever do it after 50 undisputed years of since claiming that title. Messi instead failed, his international record speaks for itself. How can you be called the GOAT or even a GOAT contender when you have never produced a single great World Cup performance in you’re 15+ year career? Outside of Barcelona Messi’s Scoring ratio drops this gives us proof that Messi was only a system scorer and player. Imagine having many chances to produce a great farmer Copa America campaign? Only Brazil is the good team in that competition. An average defence and midfield, no proper coach and didn’t function as a team at all. Destined for failure. And still messi took them to the final, being their best player. When I whatch really old matches football it is not that diferent to be honest, and there's always the eye test, pele seems a better all round complete player, compare to messi who by comparison seems limited by his left foot and inanability in the air, so for me the best is clear, people just don t wuant to talk about messi weekeness's, and always will drag pele down about his goal scoring and his weak league, whitch is not true, as it was the thoughest league compare to european football

soccer huh? lol. Of course, football is a team sport. That is the thing I am trying to say too. Pele's brazil was a stronger team than Messi's Argentina. So, that means if Brazil won 3 world cups, it's not because Pele is the best player. It's because Brazil was the best team in the tournament. Pele winning the world cup 3 times doesn't mean he is the best. Compare the personal stats if you want to compare players. That's my point XD.

Not having amazing players? Like Sergio Aguero? And Gonzalo Higuain? And that's just during the 2014 World Cup. Other times there were Carlos Tevez and Angel di Maria and so on. Let's not pretend that Argentina during the "Messi Era" didn't have any great players other than Messi. Messi is a great player sure. But there's no denying that given his accomplishments at the club level and the big names that were there in Argentina, he was expected to win a lot more for Argentina (at the senior level) than a solitary Copa America. It was a black mark on an otherwise stellar career and denigrating the his international teammates isn't going to change that.

Pele only had impactful performance in 1958 WC final ( Out of 6 goals he scored in 4 matches, 3 were tap ins ), in 1962 he was injured & played only 2 match, Garrincha was player of tournament, golden boot, he won brazil single handedly . In 1970 he only scored 4 goals in total, 1 goal in knock outs, Jairzinho was top scorer for brazil with 7 goals . His world cup campaign is super overrated. He was one of the great no doubt abut it but not THE ultimate as he is portrayed. THough I love CR7 , messi is more resourceful with his assist than CR7.

I know guess your "researches" were from comment sections; learning from people who also learned from comment sections across platforms because actually you don't know what you are talking about even though these have become popular myths for a while now. So go and research each statement you made and come back with the whole story in each case. You need to correct some records and then bring back the important pieces of information that were deliberately left out in each statement by your dishonest sources. People didn't wake up one day and ignored every other player and for no reason just chose to place him that high, a black child for that matter in an era when racism was still that high.

3 were tap ins? From his 6 goals in 1958, 5 were completely incredible goals and just his 1st goal against France was a tap in. In 1962 Garrincha was the star, yes. In 1970, although Pelé scored only 4 goals, he also made 6 assists in 6 matches (2 in the Final), being the actual record of most assists in a World Cup. Contributed in 5 out of 7 goals made by Jairzinho. He was only surpassed in goal contributions by Gerd Müller, and he truly was a tap in merchant.

Messi at best scored 4 goals in 7 matches, and has 0 goals in WC knockouts for his CAREER. Pele scored 1 goal in the QF. Scored hattrick in the Semis, outclassing Just Fontaine. And he Scored 2 goals in the finals, including what is considered the best goal in World Cup finals history. All that at the age of 17. 2nd WC: OK fair. I will not count that for Pele. 3rd WC: Actually, Pele had 4 goals and 6 assists. This is the time when Pele became a midfielder, and he still managed to score in the finals. Looking back, Messi has had many chances to knock the 81 year old Pelé’s crown as the greatest to ever do it after 50 undisputed years of since claiming that title. Messi instead failed, his international record speaks for itself. How can you be called the GOAT or even a GOAT contender when you have never produced a single great World Cup performance in you’re 15+ year career? Outside of Barcelona Messi’s Scoring ratio drops this gives us proof that Messi was only a system scorer and player. Imagine having many chances to produce a great farmer Copa America campaign? Only Brazil is the good team in that competition. In the Champions league Messi has only produced 1 GOAT Contender campaign which was in 2014/2015, other than that the other campaigns were excellent/average. “Please never compare them” Thank you.

So while yes, in the modern era, defenders are more skilled- back when Pelé played, defenders were much more brutal and would fight bitterly for every inch of ground. Scoring was not necessarily easier at the time.

Also that's ignoring alot of context such as the offside rule being easier today than in peles era. Making it easier to score. Also pele scored more in less time. Having a higher goal game ratio and didn't have to play as long as messi to get it. 4. Pele couldnt win Olympic gold as it was restricted to amateurs back then so messi has 38 not 39 vs pele . Also the under 20 world cup started in 1977. After pele played. So take that away as well so now it's 37 pele 37 messi. So technically messi doesn't have more trophies then pele. They are tied.

The Brazilian league came together in the late 60’s, before that it was only in regions. So no it wasn’t on par with European teams. And not even close to todays topleagues. Who cares that pele stopped playing and went to your the world ? And Messi has 40 trophys, don’t downgrade his trophy list. Also he has more individual trophys, and broke nearly all pele’s record. And did it in an era where football has evolved massivly. On an elite level, week in week out, and Messi managed to keep the same amount of stats almost for a period of 10 years straight. What pele did back then, Messi did it in this era.

“Best league in the world” the Brazilian league was seperated into regions back then, and santos played in the local São Paulo league Wich only had santos, Corinthians and palmeiras as topteams. So I think you should do your homework and learn about pele’s history. 🤡 he also played in the MLS and did a lot of charity matches against poor opposition ( like the us coast guard ) and still Messi surpassed him in goals, assists, trophys, individual trophys. There is a difference between playing in Dinosaur era Against part-time Plumbers vs playing in peak football competition.... Didn’t even play in 1x of the 3x Jule rimet [A 12x Team trophy when National football competition was way new to most of the Countries]....!! Brazil won even without him...I doubt in his prime when he injured...I doubt same with Messi....!!

Looking back, Messi has had many chances to knock the 81 year old Pelé’s crown as the greatest to ever do it after 50 undisputed years of since claiming that title. Messi instead failed, his international record speaks for itself. How can you be called the GOAT or even a GOAT contender when you have never produced a single great World Cup performance in you’re 15+ year career? Outside of Barcelona Messi’s Scoring ratio drops this gives us proof that Messi was only a system scorer and player. Imagine having many chances to produce a great farmer Copa America campaign? Only Brazil is the good team in that competition. In the Champions league Messi has only produced 1 GOAT Contender campaign which was in 2014/2015, other than that the other campaigns were excellent/average. “Please never compare them” Thank you.

It would be the right comparison if two players would be in the same era. Like Messi vs Ronaldo. Overall I think Messi is very far ahead of Pele. Don't compare Messi with his goal numbers. No player is better than Messi till now. Never will come.

@@pixelpoop5024 Lol he won the best young player award 1958 world cup. He was was given the golden ball in 1970 World cup when they introduced it in 1982 to see the best players at the world cup of the past.

I've been lucky to have watched all the greats when they actually played & not just relying on youtube clips... Pelé without hesitation is the most complete player I've witnessed... Brilliantly ambidextrous with both feet. He could shoot, pass, score with unerring accuracy with either foot. Fantastic header of the ball, with a crazy other-wordly hang time leap. Dribbled in an unpredictable manner, using all manner of inventive skills to beat players. Feints, dummies, no-touch skill, sombrero, rabona's & even playing one-twos of defenders shins! ...In terms of supernatural dribbling & ball control, allied to inventive passing, playmaking & prolific goalscoring... Pelé, Di Stéfano, Messi, Maradona, Cruyff, are the top five players I've seen.

Player back then weren't as good as defending, the average overall skill for soccer players back then was lower, messi plays against way harder competition, same goes for any sport. Look at basketball , you dont see anyone averaging 50points anymore because the overall skill level has increased

GrymYT All the best classical defenders of all time played between the 1960s to 1990s. Djalma Santos, Moore, Beckenbauer, Facchetti, Carlos Alberto, Krol, Figueroa, Passerella, Baresi, Maldini, Nesta, ,Cafu, Cannavaro. I don't think there's one defender today that would make the all time top ten defenders list with the possible exception of Godin. Ramos is a cheat & plays dirty. There were far greater classical defenders in Pelé, Cruyff, Maradona, Ronaldo (R9),Zidane, era's, than in this C.Ronaldo-Messi , dominated era.

GrymYT You're just so wrong on this point. I listed the greatest defenders in history ,& all of them played between the 1960s to the 1990s. Today you can't lay a foot on a attacker without being carded. Tackling from behind. You're carded. Tackling with studs showing. You're carded. The ball hits your hand no matter how accidental. You're carded. It's a bloody joke now. Try the rough & tumble hard defending of the 60s to the 90s & see how a flash Harry like Neymar would survive. He'd be broken in half back then! Just watch the barbarian tackles Pelé & Maradona had to deal with back then... It's all powder puff defending these days mate.

Those who are telling that Messi is better than Pele they should Know that in pele's time there was no card system no vitamins . Not only that in that time the defense was violent the field was bad the boot the ball were even worse and the most important thing is that in that time the no of matches per week is much less than that of today Pele played much less matches than Messi in his whole life and scored more goals than Messi

2 World Cups. Pele did not play in 1962. And it's 2 to 1 now, but look at Messi's 2014 and 2022 World Cup performances vs. Pele's 2 World Cups. It's not even close. Messi blows him away.
