I'm the last person to make excuses for Messi because he's so good that he doesn't need excuse makers arguing for him. But a decline in his statistics makes a lot of sense this season. Not only do we forget that he's 34, he had Covid-19 pretty badly, he's had several injuries in 2021 and 2022, he's been through a traumatic time personally being forced to leave his beloved Barca at the last minute, he played a full Copa America in the Summer after playing almost 50 games for Barca last season... then you consider where this PSG team is at. Key members of the squad are unsettled or injury-prone, the manager is not proven at winning trophies, the team is uncreative and lacking in identity and regularly capitulates in big games e.g. Real Madrid. But above all, this PSG team are SO uncreative - in a similar way to Man Utd, they just lack that final pass to unlock teams. Many of their defenders have to chip in with goals because the forward players are not firing. Despite all of this, Messi has still been a difference maker by scoring some winning goals and particularly with his playmaking. Really hope he stays another year and pushes on next season, but the club is a mess frankly.

Do you even watch psg? Messi is a key player for psg Ronaldo is a pure goal scorer he doesn't play like the current messi who sets up the play from deep so naturally he's gonna score more.
