Thank you and everyone that has written and will write on this. I had to retire about 7 years ago due to Retinitis Pigmentosa. I am legally blind. My issue and struggle has been that while I worked, I wished that I could have the time to do music, record, play, etc full time. I've written over 100 songs, have equipment, and so on. I haven't recordeded anything all this time since I retired. I haven't really played anywhere in a while. I stopped looking for new gear because I know that God is my inspiration. I can use what I have. All I have to do is get on the keys, bass, sing to and for Him and He'll provide all that I need as I give Him not only all that I have, but all that I am. It goes beyond just playing. It has to be with everything that we do. Yet, it's a struggle. I have more that I'd like to write but I'll leave it with that. Blessings upon blessings to you all. It's crazy how Musician Depression is such a real thing but no one attempted to open up their mouth about it until now. I have had my moments for sure but to get through those tough times made me into the musician I am today. Thank you for this word Jamal ✊🏾

It's a very real thing....

You are so right. We buy equipment and sound to inspire us and then after a few days that inspiration leaves. We start a project and then life happens and we get knocked down emotionally. We need a source that will give continual inspiration. That is found our worship life to the Lord. We have to develop our personal worship so that the devil cannot continue to ROB US of our joy and inspiration. Without inspiration we are just working - going through the motions. We have to stay connected to the Lord and put on his garment of praise. Thanks for the word

When I'm not inspired, I feel depressed. As a teenager, I was always inspired so I never learned how to get motivated. I never needed motivation nor discipline because inspiration was my motivation and my discipline. After losing my HELP, my God-breathed inspiration, I lost my fire, zeal and enthusiasm. Honestly, certain things instantly bring me inspiration, but having to do life just to survive, the inspiration gets snuffed out because I don't have the time, freedom or other resources to do those things.

As a musician, I realize that it is important to stay positive. I often watch other people play and steal their chords. One of my heaviest battles is trying to hear and play on my own. After about 10 years, I am still an intermediate musician. I am wanting newer and fresher chords. Hopefully after praise and worship, the Lord will help me to become a better piano player.

I’m always have that kind of thoughts on never get things completely done and that lack of inspiration. Thank God for your life e this video. 🇧🇷

Wow this was so good and I needed to hear this. I’ve never heard anyone talk about this but it puts language to what I feel as a church musician and worship leader and the struggles that I have gone through that I was ashamed to talk about. Right now I am in a moment where I’m not playing at my church because just had a baby and taking care of her, but this message reminded me to stay in my worship at home where it matters. Continue to get into the presence of God on my keyboard and worship him and out of that will flow the inspiration of the Holy Spirit. I am definitely guilty of only using my gift to pour into others and neglecting to drink from the well that God has gifted me!!!!! This is exactly what I’m going through… I’m trying to do everything on my own and I feel like a failure on every aspect. But through it all Jesus has been right there providing for me. I’m a musician for my church and every Sunday and every rehearsal day is refreshing but every other day is a struggle for me to get started. I don’t know how to break this cycle other than to look towards heaven and pray. Unfortunately, sometimes nothing is heard in return. So I bottle up all the pain I’m in and substitute it with fake joy and happiness. I don’t want to be fake anymore

this is true, cause i remember being depressed one night and saw someone's WhatsApp status about a certain gospel song, i checked the song out on YT, and i ended up dancing to the song and all the depression was gone, i was even shocked at how my mood completely changed when i was praising God through the song.

You have helped me realize where I am right now and how to pray and work through difficult times!! Thank again J. H. GOD IS reaching out to us through your ministry!!🙏🏾🙏🏾🙏🏾😇

The whole things is on-point (it may not seem like it if you're not a Christian, but I grew up in the church, so I can understand where Jamal is coming from, even if I'm not on board with it,) but for me, the summation is 5:40-6:15, and is spot-on accurate. It's this "I created yesterday, so why can't I today?!?!" It's depression from lack of production, but it's also a lingering fear that that was everything unique that you had in you.

Man this is so on point! I have purchased so many vsts and equipment trying to find that sweet spot only to come back to something simple and familiar that just works. This is what we deal with trying to keep everyone else happy and inspired. We are the jukebox that the people of God and Pastors put their quarter in for inspiration. The more flow that we have, the more we feel drained. If we are doing that part right, we are there more than anyone else. You are right to state that everything starts with prayer, praise, and worship. More importantly knowing the God we sing about and nurturing that relationship with Him! Thank you for sharing Jamal. It definitely hit home. As a musician we can be so caught up in the moment and sometimes ignore the heaviness. True worship and prayer is the cure. I'm sure we have all, or going through this. This is a great reminder on how to overcome.

My depression has nothing to do whatsoever with God in any aspect. My depression is completely related to the quality of music I am forced to record and play, to make my living. It's more like a job related injury. Neither God nor a psychologist can deal with that tragic reality. We don't really have any good music anymore, and I am talking only about modern music. What we have nowadays is pure noisy garbage made by imbeciles who believe they are the ultimate music SHT of the moment, which really know SHT about music. Mediocre artists making millions in the media with their mediocrity, in contrast with the real musicians making cents playing on the streets and in subway's hallways. How God handles that?
