Drum playing reminds me of engine work - loud, precise, perfect in every moment of it's function, without any unnecessary movement- perfect machine. I admire your work.

Funny that you say that, because the first thing I imagined when I heard this song, is the train from Snowpiercer. This massive, unstoppable behemoth of a machine ramming through ice formations and constantly going forward without stopping or deviating from its course. It's like a never-ending clanking and banging of an unstoppable machine. It's such an awesome song. I think it's my complete favorite surpassing Lethargica and Electric Red even.
Everything about this cover, especially the toms was perfect.

dude this version is even more accurate than Troy Wright's version, well he did amazing job but yours is better !
@OwenMcKinley
8 жыл бұрын
Thanks dude! We all know Troy is certainly a beast. That Koloss medley of his is damn impressive. I'm happy with how I approached this cover, but honestly I have no idea how Tomas Haake plays it. I can't tell what he's doing on the album version of the song, plus I saw Meshuggah play Swarm live in 2013 (front row) and couldn't see Tomas because of the crazy lighting, and The Ophidian Trek DVD doesn't show him drumming during their performance of this song. So yeah, I just pieced together patterns that I thought were complimentary and hoped my version would suffice. Glad to know you enjoyed it man.
Mate. That was a mind blowing cover. Can’t even begin to put words into how deep in the pocket you are there. That was awesome 🙌 ❤️
Dude this shit is insane! I personally this is like Meshuggahs best song, and you nailed it!

+theone1 Thanks for watching! This song is my favorite from Koloss drum-wise, but overall my favorite Koloss track is Demon's Name. It's too difficult for me to pick my overall favorite Meshuggah song though; too many options!

+Owen McKinley you're welcome! For me, I am just blown away by the way that dark atmosphere is created by all the members. There's something very dark and Erie about this song and it just gets me jamming every freaking time!
Unbelievable, Owen! Pure talent. Impressed as always.
So much passion in this, dude you absolutely ROCK!!!!!!!!!!
Your power level is clearly over 9000. Swiss triplets over top of polyrhythmic bass and hi-hat. How.
@OwenMcKinley
7 жыл бұрын
Thanks dude. I was able to manage the Swiss triplets over Swarm's foot pattern in a somewhat "unintentional" way... around the time I recorded this cover, I was playing along to Rosetta Stoned by Tool almost everyday (had no plans to cover it; was simply playing along with it for fun). There's a well-known section in that song starting at approximately 7min in that inspired (and helped me actually learn) my approach to Swarm. Just take a listen to it (if you're not already familiar with it) and you'll see where I'm coming from. Thanks again!

Bro, you are the best cover drummer I have ever seen on You Tube and I search for that a lot. I listen to your version of Tool's Triad at the gym all the time, and your precision and skill adds to the original song. Its pure percussive trance to me. So thank you so much. Have you ever considered doing more Tool covers or ventured into Gojira's work at all? Swarm is one of my favourite Meshuggah songs, also love Marrow, but like you said its tough to really pick a fave. Keep it up, I love your stuff.

That's awesome dude, I'm pumped to know you've enjoyed that Tool cover. Thank you! I've strongly considered more Tool covers, but I've gravitated towards Meshuggah's work for quite a while now. I listen to both bands equally though; Tool and Meshuggah are my two favorite bands (co-favorites, I'd say haha). I have huge respect for Gojira...they're incredibly talented and have been very consistently good. I just hardly listen to them, or any metal at all (generally speaking) outside of Meshuggah. Thanks again!

Once I saw the copyright was lifted on this video, I immediately thought of you man! Glad to know you're able to view this cover again 👍
Wow, you made that look easy! Are you adhering to a specific sticking pattern/rudiment, or are both toms just tuned similarly allowing you to kind of feel the rhythm out how you want each time? Either way you are super precise!
That snare sounds so good

Thanks man. I'm still not entirely pleased with it, being that my underside mic for the resonant head wasn't functioning properly at the time of recording this cover. I don't have spare microphones laying around (haha) so I worked with just the top batter head mic. Thanks again!

This is insanity
Ok that's just too much, you're too good to be real
Hummingbirds drop from the sky when I play this with the door open
This song makes my head explode, the 4/4 pulse is around 135 BPM, but the toms and guitars are around 180 BPM, which actually is a ratio of 3/4, correct me if I'm wrong that is just mind blowing as the song has several parts where they reset and start on beat 1 but then the guitars and toms continue in this faster BPM, I'm not a drummer and I suck at theory so I hope it was clear. Kudos man, this sounds, feels and looks damn near impossible to play!
so cool dude :)

+Owen McKinley By putting a floor tom on each side of the snare (instead of playing a traditional set), you make it very easy to 'see' the rhythm. Plus, it's always extremely cool to see the physicality of someone playing the drums, and you make it look friggin unbelievably cool, not to mention that you're a great player. :) Yo!

+Yo BroMan Well thanks for watching; I appreciate it! My floor-tom set-up was inspired by Travis Orbin. If you think I'm a good drummer then I suggest you venture over to Travis' channel and watch some of his content. He makes me (and most everyone else) look like a joke on the drums. Again, thank you!
This is brutal. I watched the whole time grimacing because of how painful I know this was lol
