MESHUGGAH is:
Jens Kidman - Vocals
Fredrik Thordendal - Guitars
Tomas Haake - Drums
Mårten Hagström - Guitars
Dick Lövgren - Bass
Lyrics:
Nostrum
Jealous vengeful fabrication
Halo-crowned invention
Sacred universal lie
Artificial divine
Great archaic obsoletum
A prevarication
Deceitfully contrived
Synthesized fictitious
Dreamed up by remote prototypes
Opiate for the yearning mass
Administered applied
Three letter word for monster
Empty promises of healing
Profit aptly buried in the lies
An industry rapt with avarice
Medicating blind
Its acolytes
Useless panacea
Imaginary cure-all
To you we cry and supplicate
Into your hell we fall
Blind belief in their eyes
Forever atoning, credulously waiting
Gazing to the skies

Where was this when I was taking psychedelics often?? Fun side note - One night while tripping balls my friend and I listened Chaosphere, towards the end of the album the CD started skipping, we were so far gone and it fit so well will the rhythmic nature of the band we didn't notice til someone sober (friend's older brother) walked in and asked us wtf we were doing. If it weren't for him, who knows, I still might be lost in that CD.

If that is the track that drones on for a bit then yea, it was... but it was skipping during that part so it just looped itself til we were snapped out of it. I still to this day don't know the track listing for that album, always listened to the whole album as one song.

Has anyone else had this or a similar experience with Meshuggah? I love Meshuggah. I can't get enough Meshuggah. But the first time I heard their music, I didn't like it, years passed and I eventually warmed up to some of their music while disliking their other music. But now I love their entire discography. Once they released Born In Dissonance, I didn't like it at first, but now I love it, and now I listen to Nostrum and am not quite fond of it, but given this trend, I expect to love it eventually. I have no idea what it is, but once I actually do warm up to a track, I am utterly in love. I am curious how common it is for people to take time to warm up to Meshuggah's music.

Same dude I just did not comprehend what people saw in meshuggah when I first heard them. But once I started really listening to all of their material I just fell in love and they've been my favorite band for the last 4 years The intense swirling rhythmic maelstrom of atmosphere they create in their songs is just unparalleled. They're a very niche band and a very aquired taste for sure. I fucking hated koloss for the longest time but after I gave it a serious listen I discovered there's actually a lot of throwbacks to their early albums. Especially on songs like behind the sun, where they explore more melodic guitar parts/ sounds. I just feel that overall, violent sleep is much more cohesive of an album, it just flows together so well, the title track, into ivory tower, into stifled, into nostrum for me is one of the best things meshuggah has probably ever written, especially that blade runner Esque melodic guitar outro on stifled fading right into nostrum. Gives me chills everytime

When Jens screams "skies" and that chord hits accompanied by the creepy guitar sounds in the background, it's like you're taking your last breaths and looking towards the sky as the world collapses below you and you fall into the core of the earth and burst into flames. Basically it's the perfect doomsday soundtrack.

I personally couldn't really feel it in Born In Dissonance but in this song, the drums just sound so "human." They really made the good choice going the live route with this album. Tomas is just fucking pummelling the snare toward the end of the song and it's a noticeable difference. I can't remember if in any interviews he mentioned weather or not they were mixing any samples in because this sounds like the real deal, all natural tones.
