    The faster the powder - the better. Accordingly, pistol powders are a better choice over rifle powders. On www.AardvarkReloading.Com (see Page 3) I have references to 2 burn rate charts. I talk a little more on NC here: rumble.com/vt0ucp-ingredient-4-nitrocellulose-nc.html You are welcome to join both of these: mewe.com/join/primerreloadingforbeginners mewe.com/join/primerreloading

    The cost of EPH 20 is less than $5 per 1000 primers. I bet H48 is less than half of that. However - H48 is corrosive to your barrel whereas EPH 20 is noncorrosive.

    Hello… thank you for the great video and information. Could you please tell me how many primers you can reload with the recipe? Is it sized for 1000? Thanks

    The recipes that are included in the documentation are based on one "reloading session". We consider a "reloading session to be about 80 to 100 primers (small pistol/rifle). Some of our members like to "double pack" the primer cups so they are more apt to only get 60 to 80 primers per session. See www.AardvarkReloading.Com for the documentation and step-by-step instructions and links to the "MeWe" group "Primer reloading". You'll see some guys making them 100 and 300 at-a-time. It's pretty incredible.

    Below is copy paste of Marshall's reply... I think I used diluted white glue as a binder, but that is not a specific recommendation, just what I had and used. The buffer is described in the patent and I used their formula. BTW, the buffer prevents the very fine aluminum powder from reacting with water before the primer is dry and ready to use.

    Why do i need to use single base smokeless powder? Can i just use pure NC?

  • @helpmenowmark

    Sure. What is your source? Gun cotton can be made but it has been ptoven to be labor better served in other activites. It also has been proven rifle powders also work suffciently well. I like smokeless gunpowder because it's so easily obtained. Live rounds recovered from gun range floors is my favorite source (free).

    @@helpmenowmark fuming nitric acid, some sulfuric acid, and pure cellulose. Makes an extremely pure substance. Collection of powder off of a range floor is something I never considered, but how can you be sure that you are collecting only single base NC powder?

  • @helpmenowmark

    @@thatoneguy454c you are correct on the gun cotton. It's been successfully tested (by a trusted member). Also in the interum (since I've made the video) some of the slowest rifle powders (therefore double based) were tested and the primers tested positive (went bang). So any smokeless powder (or gun cotton ) will do. Since thus ingredient is practically free (and only 5%) of the recipe - just use glass as a grinding media to reduce it. I'm just saying - given a choice of rifle powders or pistol powders - I'd choose a pistol powder. You can make (and use gun cotton) but i think it better suited to entertaining the grand kids. Don't sweat this particular ingredient.

    Could I use black powder?

  • @helpmenowmark

    @helpmenowmark

    5 ай бұрын

    I would not. 2 reasons: 1) Bp is corrosive (but admittedly you can wash your barrel with warm water and a mild detergent). 2) Bp is hygroscopic and can suck moisture out of air and effectively kill your primers. Here I suppose you could figure out a way to keep your primers bone dry and they would work. But this is not practical. The gunpowder from those stray bullets found on gun range floor is free. Save the planet and recycle.

    Seems more practical just to buy boxes of primers, can get a box of 200 for $5, in a shtf situation I don't imagine the internet's gonna be wide open to keep ordering chemicals and powders...in that situation I'd just use match heads since that's what you'd realistically find laying around

    I haven't seen primers for $2.5 per 100 in ages (a decade or more). Maybe Wolf primers I guess. But primers have been non-existent since pre-covid around here or possibly for insane prices on Gun-broker. Strike anywhere kitchen matches were once available àt Walmart and Dollartree. But even they are hard to find, corrosive to your barrel, and because sulfur is involved, they have a poor shelf-life. I think if they ignite they are would be weak and therefore unreliable. I should not talk as I have never tried kitchen matches. If you successfully make a good compound you need to learn about primer cup prep, sorting primer cups/anvil selection. Sizing and de-dimple techniques. The idea for some of us is to gather the supplies and the knowledge before it hits the fan. Looks like we won't agree on much but we both can hope and pray nothing hits the fan for any of us.
