    Thank you for the kind comments. Keep going to Jump Start 4. I think joining MeWe is mission critical and if you supply the required elbow grease - you will have solved your own primer shortage. I've got more vids on the way but covered up with support of the labs, of course the holidays, etc, etc. We will work with you and answer all of your questions.

    Page 19? Do you have a book on primer compounds? Also is there a big difference between magnum rifle primers and standard rifle primers regarding chemical composition?

  • @helpmenowmark

    @helpmenowmark

    2 жыл бұрын

    I think there is a difference but the differences vary with the manufacturer(s). Not only are the compounds a lil more powerful (in magnum) but the cups are a bit thicker (I think it's the primer cup/the material is a bit harder but I don't have any data top-of-head to prove that one.) On www.AardvarkReloading.Com (page 4/if memory serves) if you scroll down - the best article I've read is called Sniper's Hide "A primer on primers". Oh and on page 19 (you are going to love this). Also on AardvarkReloading.Com is the link to Homemade Primer Course by Marshall Thompson PhD (chemistry). www.aardvarkreloading.com/resources/Homemade%20Primer%20Course%202021-06-01.pdf We discuss actual primer compounds at the MeWe groups listed below. Come see me/us and make your own. Original group mewe.com/join/primerreloading Beginners group mewe.com/join/primerreloadingforbeginners It's vital that you ask questions to stir up conversations on the topics you are curious about. The recipe I (actually all of the guys) focus on is Eph 20. This primer shortage is for the birds - make your own.

    ??? Curious how well this works compared to commercial primers? How hard are the ingredients on the barrel? Lastly, reload rimfire 22s!! I thought they wee one and done? Geez, I might get back into shooting if I can make everything myself- especially 22s! Can the dent on the case be reworked so the powder gets up inside the dented rim to prevent misfires? Heading over to you website too- thanks for this!

    Some of our recipes Are commercial recipes. Eps5 IS Cci's formula but I think ours are much stronger because we simply pack more of the compound in the cup. The eph 20 is noncorrosive. Smiley face. The glass I sell is 325 mesh so it behaves like a polishing agent. Nobody has ever reported barrel wear in the 10 or so years that I have been doing this. 22LRs ... use eph 0 (not eph 20) for these. Yep, all you have to do is tell Marshall, "It can't be done." . This is a slower reload because you do have to knock out the dent . Cleaning the 22lr is the same as your reloading brass. I'll send you the standard invite to the MeWe groups. We will answer any questions as they pop up. We help you to learn - then you help us teach the next guy... and so on.... Free of charge.... just give Marshall credit (and a text thanking him never hurts). He is an amazing guy. Oh he does Berdan primers too, and percussion caps and shot shell 209s. Amazing! Stay tuned

    I think I remember reading something about that particular primer in one of these two articles (the top two). Of course you should use the proper primer but during this primer shortage I understand the need for exploring substitutions. It will work functionally (but I have not personally tried it). It won't be as safe as using the military primer #41. My concerns are over avoiding slam-fires with the AR 15 and it's free-floating firing pin. www.evernote.com/shard/s378/sh/4f064c5a-c649-487f-74fb-61da0a11ddd4/VkOYg6X0LgaCn9X4u2O37Ve3JM8_PfXTJto3RgDeXaJkL8Dznhosyr9JDg Be safe!

    So if this stuff can be can be reloaded in a 22 casing to make 22 primer to ignite powder. Why would you even go through the process of putting the anvil back in the rifle primer cups ????

  • @helpmenowmark

    @helpmenowmark

    2 жыл бұрын

    Good question. The material still needs a pinch point. That being the area under the rim or between the point of the anvil and the primer cup. It needs compression to gain friction.

    Mark, have you ever tried firing a loaded round that has no anvil in the primer ? I think it would be a good test.

  • @helpmenowmark

    @helpmenowmark

    2 жыл бұрын

    @@okeechobeejoe2868 Honestly - I have not tried that test. I still think there wouldn't be enough compression to "get the job done". I've inadvertantly installed the anvil in crooked/almost sideways and "no bang".

    Armstrong mixture would work better, 70 potassium chlorate / 30 red phosphorus, but if You are not a chemist, or expert do not do it because it is very dangerous to someone without the proper skills.
