Comme j'aurais voulu être à la place de Laurent Delahousse. Recevoir Meryl Streep, quelle chance ! C'est la meilleure, la classe.

Cansu Meriçli Well sorry to disappoint you, it seems she hasn't spoken French for a while and although one understands what she says in French, she seems pretty nervous at speaking in French in front of a French journalist and several million French people (this vid is an extract from the 8pm news broadcasting which is very fancy in France) but I am sure she does understand almost every question.

God can you see how touched she is when hearing Maria Callas... what a great personality she has. I could try to sum up in English what she says in French, it'll take me some time though. I come back as soon as it is done.

So here I am, I'll try to translate the interview - sometimes you can hear her speaking English through the French interpreter. Journalist: (intro) There are no words but superlatives to describe Meryl Streep. Thank you for joining us this evening (live broadcasting) to end the American-French week. A dinner is held today with President Obama and his wife at the Elysee Palace and you were invited, didn't you? They stated that the French and Americans are close friends forever. Do you agree? Meryl Streep: I hope so! I was invited to that dinner but couldn't attend in order to be here with you! It's true! J: Which image do the French have for you? MS: Soulful, very complicated, many contradictions, stylish, comprising both comic and dramatic. J: Comedians in a word? MS: Yes! J: You are a committed person and we heard you support Hillary Clinton. MS: Yes, I am a great admirer. I hope she will go for presidency but I do not know yet. J: Let's see what the future brings about a woman being elected for President, if the Americans are ready for it. MS: I think they are ready to elect a woman but I am not entirely sure they will accept it. These are different things! J: You were nominated 18 times at the Academy Awards, last of which for "August: Osage County". You have stated that these Awards are not that important for you. MS: Well it makes me very nervous because it means I have to get a dress and be in the center of the critique. J: It is astonishing that you don't like being under the gaze of others. You feel much better at home than on the red carpet, for sure. MS: I know I should like all this as a woman, but I don't, what can I say. I can't explain it. J: Let's talk about your career. It has been reported that "Meryl Streep loves to change her image, that is why she can play in so many roles - sweet, tough, violent, calm, touching, dark - last of which in the new movie "August: Osage County" [extract from the film, MS states that it is a pity cinema does not have great female roles. Julia Roberts: When shooting a film, she is like a surgeon. So precise, detailed] J: You chose to take the role in "August: Osage County", a mother, dark and unsociable. Your younger daughter was frightened, she told you that everyone would hate you because of this role. MS: No, no! That is when she saw the film, she was the first to do so. She cried at the end and said "You are great but everyone will hate you!" J: It is hard to play an unworthy mother. But which kind of mother have you been? Very protective, I believe? MS: I am a perfect mom! J: Two of your daughters came to you one day and said "I want to be an actress". How did you react? MS: I told them all the time to study math, science in the hope that they would become molecular biologists or physicians but it's not in the DNA. I think if they want to be actresses, i makes me feel good, it makes me afraid for them because it is an uncertain profession an you can get rejected. But they want to go for it, it is very exciting. J: Being an actress has pros and cons. We will only consider the pros. Which positive aspects did this profession bring you? MS: It's such an outlet, a therapy, a means to put all the feeling I have into work. I would be crazy and probably suicidal if I weren't an actress. J: You know a lot of young actresses are watching us tonight and see a reference in you. Have you got one piece of advice to give them to succeed in the profession? MS: Don't worry about how much you weigh! It is the last thing you have to think about. Eat while you can afford it! J: If you hadn't become an actress, what could you have been? A musician, I believe? MS: Yes, I wish I could have been a musician. I wish I could play the piano. I think I have had an appetite to do a lot of things and that is why I love being an actress, I can imagine myself in a lot of different lives. J: You claim you are no star. We will hear one of them and I believe you hear her a lot. [Maria Callas, Casta Diva playing] J: How are you feeling when you hear Maria Callas singing? There is a strong emotion I can see in your eyes. MS: She is the greatest artist of the 20th century to me. She is in tune with something divine. Because it is music, music carries you away. [at highest tone by Maria Callas] Oh my God! J: This moment was pure emotion for us and the people who are watching the news. Thank you Meryl Streep. We could have done this interview in French after all? MS: Yes! Next time!

Must be wierd for her to watch the clips, where she is synchronised in French, when she poor so much of her into a role....and then watch it - and sound so different.

In this film the french actress who's dubbing her is not very good in my opinion. In others movies it's better.
