Merry Christmas. Vick Chu Is The Worst
Ойындар
Dead Rising, as a franchise, is known for having a cast of simple but memorable characters. From the main characters to the supporting cast to the antagonists, they leave an impression despite very limited screen time. Unfortunately, Dead Rising 4's most memorable character is one that most players wish they could forget about.

I always hated how they completely changed Frank’s character into a sociopath who doesn’t care about his fellow human beings… In Dead Rising 1, Frank literally went out of his way and risked his life to save several survivors. He even went out of his way to attempt to use Japanese to save the two Japanese tourists. He also saves Paul after he attempted to kill him. Frank was always the unlikely hero character type. He is just an average guy stuck in a bad situation, but he isn’t an asshole.

True Frank was a guy that got trap in a zombie outbreak in Willamette, Colorado.
The Christmas setting in this game really deserved to be in a better Dead Rising game

The open world Willamette and mall was so damn good and surrounded by a shitty game
Just thinking/seeing/listening to this version of Frank (or Hank East as I call him) just makes me visibly, physically and emotionally upset. I can't believe what they did to my boy Frank.
the ending got me thinking, what are some of the worst capcom characters? Vick is up there but off the top of my head I can't name any that are overtly annoying or dislikable

I know a few people who REALLY don't like Ethan Winters but that's not exactly a popular opinion (I don't think anyway)
My least favorite moment from Vick in this game comes from the ending of the base game. She already sucked but the ending really just showed how much of a shitty person she really was. Frank just gave his life to save her and Brad, he died to save their lives and this was after they made up..and what does Vick do? Shit talks him. She talks about how Frank would have embezzled to the story and all the things he said was bullshit and now that he is gone, the story will be told the right way (her way). I understand she wasn't fond of him but holy shit, he just saved your life and you are talking about him like he's a scumbag. But it gets worse because all of his 'embellishments' were true. He did defeat Fountain in single combat, he didn't take the side of the doctor chick and he did at least become friends with the engineer. Everything he was going to write about happened...but Vick was going to denounce all of his feats as falsehoods when she tells the story. If it wasn't for Frank getting resurrected, Vick would have completely altered his last story, erasing all of his heroic and good deeds because she didn't believe he actually did any of that. She is complete human scum, can't even give some respect when Frank is still freshly dead.
Talking shit about the loved protagonist, A speech talking about how she's gonna tell things HER way, Being a total prick... Why does Vick give me MK Velma vibes?
You know, you bring it up briefly but there is something I find strange about this game's story. Well more so than the entire story. I could be mistaken and looking back with rose tinted goggles, but I don't seem to remember Frank ever lying in his reporting. While he was initially reluctant to help people in Dead Rising 1, he does still have motivation to help people and does seem interested in getting the truth of Willamette out there as the military was covering it up. Case West was him investigating Phenotrans with Chuck, something that would clear the latter's name and would require the truth. The only fabrication was Frank taking an interview on how he would have handled Dead Rising 2 in Off The Record. And that was just a what-if I was in Chuck's shoes type of deal.

You're not crazy, the game really does just drop the ball with Frank here. The idea he would lie about reporting completely undermines his quest for the truth in the first place; this is the guy who promised Carlito, an unrepented monster who deserves his demise, that the story of Santa Cabeza wouldn't be covered up. The fact Vick says it in such a smug tone makes it all the more infuriating.
It's almost as if she was supposed to be the protagonist originally, before her role was given to Frank and the Kent'esque character she's in the final game would be someone completely different, with Frank being a cameo similar to Chuck in DR3. Instead we got this incoherent mess of a character and ruination of a long time favourite character. Also Caulder sounding like a hissing cat is not something i would've expected :D

I used to think that's exactly what happened, but according to interviews from former devs, the story is basically a first draft that didn't have time to be worked out. However, a different dev has claimed they DID rewrite the story because Vick was originally too unlikeable. So either this was the first attempt, or this disaster was actually an IMPROVEMENT. I can't decide which would be worse.

@@JakeJakers Certainly speaks volumes how rocky the development of this game was and if Frank was always supposed to be this way i can't even imagine what was going on there. Improvement or not the end result is a disaster. And apparently was always going to be. Edit: i just remembered that the game was originally going to be completely different and they had to scrap it because Capcom didn't like it so the end result is basically a taped together game that unsurprisingly bombed.

@@Xertaron. Yep. The game was originally going to be "Dead Rising Meets the Last Of Us". It was an attempt to keep Dead Rising's core ideas with a more harsh survival aspect, but it didn't work. Maybe I should do a video on that.
Dead Rising 4 felt like it was trying to be the new Evil Dead reboot TV series, heck even Frank looks a bit like Bruce Campbell.
16:58 💯 it was a deliberate move my the writers, and not just because she’s pretty much a mary sue the entire game, as well as being made to be the better/empathetic photo journalist, but also because she more than likely was meant to be the next protagonist in Dead Rising 5. Why else would they have her survive the entire outbreak, WITH the full story of the incident AND escape in the helicopter unharmed, if she wasn’t meant to be (maybe at least) a returning character.

The next game was meant to be an interquel about Chuck in a bordertown. There's some very early proof of concept footage online.

@@Keyboardeater1definitely would’ve preferred that
3:11 nope honestly wished I could’ve gave her the Kent treatment because she was pointless to the story other than getting Frank tied up in some bullshit he wanted nothing and had nothing to do with
Holy shit, Night of 100 Fights music. I thought I was the only one who remembered that game.
Ive been replaying this recently and its just as eh as i remembered I really hope the franchise doesn't end on this awful excuse of a game

Given a lot of nonsense in the modern-day game industry, I'm fine with Dead Rising being safe in the grave. Dead Rising 1, 2, Off the Record, and 3 are worth more than most AAA catalogs to me.
Hey unrelqted question but did you use to make spanish loquendo vids in the past? Pfp and anime girl feel familiar

Well this was... probably a video I will feel at some point, yeah, I haven't played DR4, but I do at the very least plan to, whether or not I enjoy it is going to be a story I most likely know already, but I always say play the thing first before you give fair judgement or a full review, all I have to say for now is, it's funny how Marvel Vs Capcom Infinite did Frank better than his own series. (I mean Frank's not great in MVCI, but he's also not awful, "I saw the same costume in Willamette": Frank when he's on a team with X)

You might find the gameplay enjoyable. It's not polished (at all), but there's some primal fun to be had in using an electric ax to turn zombies into tomato paste.
Would you prefer a reboot of Dead Rising set after the events of 2 or just a full-on reboot?
@JakeJakers

Neither. Just have a game take place between 2 and 3, and have a later game take place after 3 and ignore 4.

@@JakeJakers To be honest, I think remaking all four Dead Rising games would be a good idea and can improve upon things for those games, like gameplay, graphics, and story(story for 3 and 4. 1 and 2 were good.)
@JakeJakers

@@RedStar-nq9py I like the IDEA of it. But after the Resident Evil games, my concern is they aren't remakes of the old games, but reimaginings that replace the originals for modern audiences. Typically, a game getting remade means they have confidence in the series but not in the direction. I'd rather have a tie-in game between DR2 and DR3, and then have future titles just ignore DR4.
@RedStar-nq9py

@JakeJakers I get you. But the remakes of Resident Evil aren't that bad. (RE3 Remake is, but there is some good stuff in there.) RE4 Remake was everything I wanted it to be and more, and I believe they can do the same thing with Dead Rising 1 and 2. As for the idea of ignoring DR4, in my opinion, it is dumb as I think with a good remake, you can fix a lot of these issues. Don't forget that DR3 story also has a lot of issues as well. This is why I feel a reboot of remaking those games can work.
Vick is one of the reasons I freaking hate this game! She’s so annoying
It sucks that I end up playing this every christmas as it's one of the most festive titles available.. And yet, it's pure garbage. It's such a shame that the festive themes are wasted on this game.
Like a month ago I replayed dead rising 1, off the record and 3. 3 has a lot of flaws and drags a lot but still has some cool ideas. To this day I refuse to play 4, like 3 is bad but 4 its just pure cancer
yeah, she just doesnt work. merry christmas by the way
JAKE IS THE BEST
Am i the only one that found the crappy puns actually funny?
Vick is the Katsuki Bakugo of the Dead Rising franchise. Or... well, Dead Rising 4 specifically. She is a selfish moron at the beginning and a straight-up villain toward the end, and justifies it all by blaming Frank, who is also Frank West in name only.
