Decided to try film again after two decades so bought a F50 to mount my Nikon lenses on. Paid $4.33 for an excellent copy on EBay but then spent over $100 to purchase and process two 36 exposure rolls. What an eye opener.

Yes, 35mm is expensive, not to mention 120mm. A Rolleiflex 2.8 in good working condition is easily 2-3.000 EUR and a top level scanner for 120mm is 3.000 EUR, so it all adds up, as they say!

Yeah, I won’t be going for a Leica M6. But I went to a film binge response to a challenge by Grays of Westminster and ended up with an image featured on their KZread VLOG. But it lead me to finally get a shot I liked of a particular tree that I had been trying for two decades. So changing things up and taking on a challenge can be a good thing.

Wonder what percentage of photographers are also woodworkers. I’ve been producing a lot more pixels than sawdust lately. Hard to devote time to both, not to mention guitar. Maybe now that our days are longer with daylight savings time.😅

Nice! I am still positive that film is different; particularly black and white.

Yes but Digital is not inexpensive. The endless storage, will that storage be readable in (enter years), negatives normally are. When I was in High School and making a whopping $2.00 per hour, film was $2.00 + per roll and then development. Given todays dollars, film is catching up, but I make more than the roll of film, and I was more intentional I believe, no casual firing of the shutter, cause digital is free. We can print Ansel Adams, Cartier Bresson, Walker Evans etc., because we have the negatives. Could we lose several decades of amazing photos if they are erased or lost electronically? Neither is cheap. Digital is certainly fun and convenient. I Look forward to more of your difference discoveries.

@@kimc5750 I guess Ansel's work could go lost in a fire or a flood however well protected, just like electronically stored data can. So there are no guarantees to give for both camps. I have backups in several versions and stored at different locations, but you never know. I'm currently scanning a lot of slide film, and when done, I hope to let go of the original. Just like LP's and books, they do take up a lot of space.
