Wow! I hadn't heard that one by Hag. That is absolutely beautiful. Sounds like it was probably one of his last recordings... His voice aged like fine wine.

Thanks conhighway for the good morning selection. Thanks Don for the shoutout. Just remember, if I do het the rare opportunity to catch an error, it just means that I am focused on what is being said 🙂 The song was written and produced by Merle. Merle released this song in 2000, on his album 'If I Could Fly'. To me, it is a song that speaks to the universal experience of longing for connection and reminiscing about the past. Thanks you two for the reaction

Really love this one! There is a live version where Merle dedicates the tune to his brother. Another fine artsy song is the cover of Blaze Foley, If i Could Only Fly. Merle has several live recordings, the Red Shirt version is my favorite. Goes through the story how he picked the song to record, and Clint Strong plays fabulous backup. The Blue Shirt version is also great! Your favorite, Joe Nichols performs Only Fly handsomely, as a duet with LeeAnn Womack.

Nice reaction Don and I think you hit on a winner with your neighbor Liv,she seems very knowledgeable and you two have some chemistry while reacting. Hope you do more with her.... How about doing a Prine song with her...might I suggest "Blue Umbrella"...just a thought...lol.

This sounds like is was late in his life. There's a live version I've watched where he dedicates the song to his brother that's even better.

Definitely a later song by Merle. I'm 100% sure there is another song by Merle that has the same melody but I'm blanking on it. P.S. i think parts of it sound like, If I Could Only Fly and that's what I was thinking of.

Later Merle. Not sure I have heard it before. Cool tune. Instrumentally, and lyrically to some extent, this song reminds me of a Duet between Kelly Willis and Kevin Welch called ' That'll Be Me". I've been trying to get somebody, anybody to react to that song with no success so far. Have you ever reacted to Merle's "Rainbow Stew" before?

This is why Merle is known as the poet of a comin man. This song has a similar concept as ' Do You Think Of Me ' by Keith Whitley, only more poetic.
