MerCruiser Engine oil leak - Part 2
Тәжірибелік нұсқаулар және стиль
In this video we find out if the oil pan gasket oil leak was fixed or not. I had tried to fix the oil pan leak with gasket maker.

I think these GM 2.5 liter 4 cylinder engines are known for leaky crankshaft front oil seals. That's what the 3 liter Mercruiser is, basically. It makes quite a mess in the engine bay as it gets on the spinning pulley and belts and flicks everywhere. I am in the process of pulling my 3 ltr now to do the front seal and the base pan and gasket. Thanks for your videos. They are a great help!
Hi Zack, I had the same issue with my Bayliner with mercruiser 3.0, but the diference is, the boat was in the water, it seems like the issue is a fault carborator, mine was rebuild also and the problem wen way. Thank you, best regards love your channel dude. Keep up the good work.
Wow! That was crazy! Finally fix the oil leak then the carb acts up. Better that it acted up in the garage than on the water.
You should do a video on rebuilding the carb, your videos are great
I had same issue with my 5.0 mercruiser, but a replacement gasket was $40 so I did that and I’ve had no issues with it, while I was at it I replaced timing cover, front main seal and balancer. I suggest replacing gaskets, and generally with a rubber gasket they don’t need any glue, just on the spots where the timing cover meets the block and same with fly wheel housing.
What a relief! Yeah like someone said above, could have been the float sticking from being upside down.

How do you unstick the float? Tap it?
Good job. You have great videos. I had the same problem with oil leak at timing chain cover and fixed it without pulling the engine out. Anyhow, im done with POS Mercruisers, going for an outboard Yamaha or Suzuki and enjoy in trouble free summer :)

How did you do it without taking the engine out? I have a leak in the same area and need some pointers!

Pos mercruiser? Yeah whatever dude
Always use new gasgets and o-rings and kit in corners and joints
Because of how much of a pain it is to adress an oil pan leak on an inboard, I would have installled a new oil pan and new oil pan gasket.
I'm working on the older 120hp 2.5 Mercruiser which is a near exact copy of the old Chevy II 153. Mine had a rear main seal leak so I replaced the seal and had to polish up the seal journal surface. I ordered a marine one piece pan gasket and found that the rear pan area is much larger so it appears the gasket is made for the larger 3.0 liter engine.

Interesting!
It must have been the float in the carb was either not adjusted right or some dirt on the needle.
great videos. FYI that oil pan gasket is a one time use. you would be better off getting a new one and using RTV

That’s a $150 oil pan gasket. I’d would’ve reused it too.
Hi , there , question, when you flush gasoline with the Throttle it have to flush gasoline in to the carburetor right??
if the problem occurs again, try giving the carburetor a small knock. Then you will probably loosen the float so that the fuel flows normally again. It is common for a similar problem to occur if you are transporting outboard engines lying on its side.

Where do you tap the carb?
I have a bayliner 1989 but i just put my motor together and took it out for a spin it runs but i cant go more then 12 mph. is there a way to diagnose and fix that issue ?

could the distributor timing be off? If you had removed or adjusted the distributor when putting the motor together. Could the distributor be stuck in base timing mode?
Question i have a oil leak somewere but i wonted to no do oil come out the fule pump some one told me it might be from that and no pan not leaking
@ZachsGarage1

Could also be from the rod cover on the side. It could possible come fr where the fuel pump mounts. You can replace that gasket

I just replace the gasket took boat out again same thing i do see a little hole behind engine like a pip hole it comes out of there and it look milky also little oil come out hose going to carburetor plate that sit on top
I had the same thing happen to me. I had carb professionally rebuilt, cost me $350.00 on my first outing it flooded my engine and kept pouring gas in the manifold.. I took it back and they said the float got stuck.. and it hasn’t happened since...

Interesting, must have been the float for mine!

@@ZachsGarage1 I had this happen to and it was to much gas pressure which was forcing the gas through. shoul be between around 5 - 8 psi

@@ZachsGarage1 Definately... If fuel keeps running in once the carb bowl is full the float has stuck or debris is in the needle and seat. Turning the engine upside down is most likely the culprit... Removing the bowl before inverting probably would have been good. Change your oil when that happens..
The reason gas keep coming in caburetor is... The floater doesn't close up to stop the gas coming in from the fuel line...
How did your boat do last summer?

It did well, no cracks in any fiberglass and the engine still runs well other than a little rough idling, but that's what to expect from the old four cylinder anyways

@@ZachsGarage1 my 3.0 is a 1985 and it idles great. I hope to get it out in March and everything is okay. It survived the Mayfield Tornado last month. That Bestie Tornado missed my boat by a half mile. Have to get the roof on storage building patched and that’s about it. I was lucky.
