Here in NZ they are almost the most hated Ute on the market. I got my X350 new just after they decided they were not going to make it anymore. The price was a silly $95,000 but they had trouble shifting them and I got mine with 20km on it ore registered for $65,000 which is much closer to its true worth (my opinion). Most of my farmer friends hated it but must now admit for the money I laid and how much more refined it is that it’s a pity they didn’t continue. I used to have the Navara jts based on and Merc strengthened the chassic (extra cross braces) and heaps more sound deadening material. The basic feel is a Navara that’s been t0 charm school…the same, but refined. Pity they stopped…I love mine, but obviously won’t be able to buy another

In March 2020 the v6 350d could be purchased for abut A$75k, due to the uncertainty of sales during Covid-19 in Australia. A Mercedes dealer told me last week (March 2021) that the last basic v6 they sold, was for A$105k! Huge demand now they are very rare to purchase new.

thanks for great reviews ... you should place the camera on the right side of the driver's seat for less rattling and better view..attaching on the window is not a good idea ....A pillar ruins the view !!!

Great review as usual. Merc certainly not showing their best efforts with this vehicle.

Hmmm... Not sure about this one. Someone mentioned that they should have based it off of the G Wagon, which would have been awesome. Then it would have a chance in a North American market. We would consider it over our Ford in that case. Great review as always 👍🏻

Hi Thomas, Great Review! I personally agree that leather seats are absolutely unnecessary. Never understood why you would pick them for a premium if you can get fabric seats that get the job done better. Leather should only be used where it can be useful and car seats just aren't in that category methinks.

I love pickups and I'm still surprised with the Mercedes' approach in this case. External design is nice, especially the powerful front, but with such huge experience in building off-road vehicles Mercedes should have based this model on the G Wagon - extended frame with longer wheelbase, V6 engine as basic choice, V8 as option (possible AMG version, but not necessary), 3 locking differentials, more space in the back for passangers and in my opinion this would be the correct approach. Unfortunately these days Excel rules corporate minds and we all know that using Navara instead of creating completely new model allows to save a lot of money, but how can you explain only the height adjustment of the steering wheel in 2018 in the car with price over 50k €. It is not some space technology... Anyway it is just an example, I would expect much more from Mercedes. By the way Thomas nice review :-)

If I had to buy a Puck up I’ll have a hard choice between this and the Ridgeline.

Why are people bothered by the rebranding? I have been in one and it feels like any other mercedes.

Normally not the biggest Merc fan but this is very cool, make an amg version already. Love you guys

This truck really looks like it took a lot of its styling cues from the Nissan Frontier. And, to me, that's like taking a step backwards, because people are already familiar with this design in a pickup truck. MB could've done better, in my opinion.

I like this truck, but Mercedes (Nissan/Renault/whoever) is going to have to work very hard to catch up with the Amarok, if VW decides to put their 4 litre TDI in it.

Just try the Ssangyong MUSSO FULL and u will have a better pickup for half the price !

You don't have perhaps a review of the Renault Alaskan?

Mercedes-benz x class 350d is fantastic both interior and exterior or it's iconic but why not gasoline course I am a funny of petrol powerd engine.

Autogefühl funny, I just came back from trip to Croatia and when saw those yellow city signs thought " I'm not sure it's Germany" and then saw that crossed painting with "Skola" something triggered :) But in Croatia they are the same as I remember, so my guess was wrong :)

It's official, thomas a little bit high in this video.

mercedes replaced this engine- transmission combination with the 2.9 inline 6 with 340 ps and 9g-tronic transmission. This is not a cheap vehicle, they should have included new drivetrain. I would wait for the facelift for the new drivetrain and possibly new infotainment system.

I like the style, but not a fan of diesel engines in general

Great review as always. About this car, I really don't understand the target market for this model, who would pay so much money for a Nissan with a Mercedes badge on it. Let's assume that they are targeting successful contractors, they won't risk damaging their expensive car by transporting hardware in it, this contractor will buy a simple Nissan that he can use without worrying about the interior or the resale value. If the contractor has a clean job that does not require transportation of hardware he would just get a g wagon.

Also advertise for us a big New gasoline engine.

They should have done an own platform and model for the X-Class. It's a shame that VW Amarok V6 is better than a Mercedes. Actually this is not a Mercedes in my view... However Thomas is the Meister again!! Danke!

This one is a miss for MB and smacks of a GM mentality. MB design team, "Hey, I have an idea. Let's make a luxury pick-up truck that does neither luxury nor pick-up trucking well." If that vehicle ever made it to the US, it would remain as nailed to the showroom floor as the Nissan Frontier does. BTW - I currently own an MB E-class and owned an X-terra for 5 years (great small SUV). Another fantastic review, and I especially like the fun approach you took to how you presented the less than fun vehicle.

Really disappointed with Benz on this thing. Mostly just a Nissan and they should have built their own ute (in Australia) or pick up from the ground up. The Navara is one of the worst utes on the market.

I'm so sad...Mercedes made the decision not to bring this truck to the U.S. Honestly, I don't blame them. We have a political party that is no longer conducive to the market any longer. Even if it were, Mercedes would not allow the 3 liter diesel into our market for reason only they know of...Really sad since this would make a great platform for over landing with the diesel 4X4 option! DAMN! I really miss this 3 liter diesel motor in any of the GL models!

Make a baby G wagon off this truck with the V6 and sell it in the USA. It would sell like hotcakes.

Xclass in my opinion is like dancing waltz in trekking boots.

I’m really disappointed with the X-Class. It isn’t luxurious, or any good with luxury. One thing is a handbrake, that I’d expect from a Mercedes, from 1997. I was super excited about the X-Class when I heard of it, being I LUV pickups, and I loved it even more when it had a 3 star badge on the front, rear and key. My love for it died when it officially came out. I hope the next generation makes an X63 AMG, with more features.

With their wide range of commercial and luxury crossovers/SUVs, Mercedes Benz should have come out with something better than this. Way too much Nissan overall, nice front end though..

Qashqai key fob with Merc star on it, steering wheel without reach adjustment, door bins without soft touch material but it’s more than 50.000€? No, thanks. I don’t even mention about ridiculous options list and that enormous gear lever..

Still it's probably the best pickup to buy after Ford Raptor. It's not many trucks with a 4WD-system that allows driving on hard surfaces!

This brings the whole you cant polish a turd saying..........

For the price and lack of features I'd say the only thing this will carry will be the owners ego. In Australia it's like $85-95k with options. You have to option everything and it still lacks features. Just buy a half price Mitsubishi Triton that offers so much more for $48k.

These cars pretty much have one feature - letting you buy a 5-seater with deductable tax on your company. Quite small load area, horrible loading hight, needs expensive accessories to actually store stuff without it beeing stolen - either a deck lid or a canopy. With a canopy you get a very low cargo space. It bugs me a bit when I see these cars (often Amaroks) with a giant front light bar, big wheels, and a roll bar... What do they do? Drive that turd of a car around town. They proably never put anything but the kids bike or something on that little bed. I get that they look cool but ffs :P If they ACTUALLY used the thing work work a Transporter or Caddy Maxi would easily replace it and excel it in most points.

Merc, I like you, but this is Toyota Hilux territory, you can't even come close!

what the... a luxury truck? i don't think fine leather seats and mahogany wooded dash doesn't go well with the dirt and grime of a worksite. not to mention the outrageous cost of maintenance and repair😂😂😂. i can see them charging $120 for an oil change alone😂😂😂

This is a terrible looking truck. The quality of it looks like a typical Nissan with a couple upgrades rather then a Mercedes. However, great review!
