Today I test drove a Hilux, then navara(felt like a sedan) Triton(felt like an SUV), then Dmax (felt like a suv) then the ranger(felt like a truck). I fix and rebuild engines for hobby and when I was done testing I bought the wildtrak limited edition 4x4. Hilux is stolen easily in Malaysia and driven to Thailand. I love the ranger good job Ford.

I'd go with Ranger even though I'm not too keen on Ford. Already comes with somewhat decent tires to go off the beaten path and has a rear locker. Unfortunately we don't get either, although the Ranger is coming to the US.

Here in South Africa you can't blink in the road without a Ranger passing by....not that I'm complaining, I love this beauty. The Mercedes X is not here yet, maybe it will do well too. But at the moment the Ford Ranger is still just owning it.

I'm afraid small things, such as storage and cup holders, are big deal, atleast it is when you're spending 60 grand. If it's annoying every time you jump in the car because you have nowhere to sensibly put everything it's not going to be a very fun experience. I love my Hilux for more reasons than 1, but the thing has cup holders up the arse. They have thought of everything, cooler box, usb's, adjustable steering wheel, even a notch cut out of the lid on the centre console.

You should see "La Chata Solidaria". They deliver food in parts of Argentina no one could ever get. They go in Ford Rangers. The fact that Ford says the max payload is 900kg does not mean it cannot carry more. And I know for a fact that you could easily carry more than 1.5 ton and the ranger will be more than happy.

I just watched a comparison between the VW Amarok and the Ford Ranger Wildtrack, the wildtrack has the optional 2litre bi turbo engine with 10 speed auto, for me i would stay with the 3.25 cylinder engine, personal choice. the presenter raved about the Amarok, power of a v6 all wheel drive and bigger vehicle, one thing he forgot to mention, reliability, second thing he forgot was runnining cost, next was safety features, he did mention the lack of airbags in the Amarok, on road stability control, etc in the Ranger, it will be interesting to see what the Amarok will be like with 100.000km on the clock compared to the Ranger, my money is strongly on the Ranger.

They kept banging on about the x class suffering from being able to lug less than the ranger, but at the start of the video they said the x-class has a payload over a tonne yet the ranger was below a tonne. That doesn’t sound worse to me. It’d be the merc for me, but with the v6. A merc engine with change it heaps and the full time 4matic would better it as well.

  • @sumit_john

Damon Goodyer the X-Class rear end is based on the Navaras which drop considerably when loaded beyond 400 kg. This reduces the weight acting on the front steering axle.

I do agree that the new Ranger Wildtrack with it's 10 speed tranny and new biturbo engine is a big improvement over the outgoing model. The good news is, the new keyless entry and push button start. The only thing that irks me is that they still retain out modded taillights, using tungsten globes. Why?. LEDs have been around now for some time, and have proved themselves to be far more effective in their operation, especially in absolute low current drain, and the instant on/off characteristic about them. Instead Ford have stuck with the old lighting system for the rear. Why couldn't they go with the North American Spec of an all LED arrangement, as it's light years (pun intended), ahead of tungsten globes. For the top Spec model, surely LED headlights/taillights, should be included, with an electric glass Sunroof as maybe an option. Come on Ford, my money is burning a hole in my pocket... Apologies as to the way the text has appeared here. I had written it into a Toyota review, and fortunately picked it up before posting, so copied it, and pasted it to here and the above is the result. Tried backspacing lines of text to line up correctly, but upon posting, it reverted back to what you see here. Cheers...

I honestly don’t see any justification on purchasing an X-Class over a Ranger. The Ranger is just more practical, user friendly, a beast and in my opinion, more bang for your buck. I mean come on, hardly any storage in a dual cab ute?! X-Class is just a glossy Navara for people to show off the badge. Nothing more.

I dont believe when they said the payload is just one ton bcz the ranger uses lift spring and lift springs could handle more weight than coil springs, Ford said that payload is 2.5 tons but for me ill pick the ranger cuz more capable and it is specifically built for its purpose bcz of its capabilities
