Phenomenal video, used a 5kOhm resistor and it works as well. This was genuinely one of the fastest fixes I've ever done on a vehicle - took me about 30 minutes total and was able to do it with minimal disassembly (ie. I did not take off the turbo outlet line).

Hi, did t yesterday and it works!...on my 2007 JEEP Commander 3.0 CRD (made in Austria), still have to check it for some time (to see if no DTC comes back) but in the short run the "lightning bolt" red light is out and the turbo is alive again!. Thanks Mr. Clay for your help!...was very useful.

I got my resistor in. So now I will do this mod shortly and let you know how it went. Thanks for the video.

Well I don’t know if his work but mine worked the only time it won’t work is when you have rail sensors. It’s only two bucks in about 30 minutes of your time I don’t see why you would even be a question of if it worked or not if it even matters at that point

That’s what I charge to do them to. I’m working on one right now that the last person who worked on it stripped off the bolts…… and since you probably never took a turbo off of one of these there’s three bolts on the back side of the turbo that are not easy to get to you have absolutely no leverage and they are tight as shit….. Plus they’re hardened so you can’t cut them off…… it’s a freaking nightmare…… That two dollar fix won’t last though sorry to say. You should get it fixed when you have the money to do it just say for it. Or watch one of my videos and do it yourself.

Awesome to hear Jim Thank you very much for the kind words I would recommend you getting it fixed This is should not be used as a lifestyle. But it will get you safely home and around town it’s quite an expensive repair at the dealership. I would not recommend having somebody who does not normally work on these things do the procedure unless it’s yourself personally they will run into complications that they may not be able to overcome i do this all the time I don’t mind the complications but I couldn’t imagine what happened on the last one that I did happening to a novice or amateur there would be very very big problems

Just bought a 2011 3.0L back in may (DIY mobile grooming van) and am having problems with no boost. Right now im leaning towards just an electrical issue(alternator) because of it resetting with just a twist if the key on and off. (And a dead batteryLol). I am one for "never stop learning"

Good morning Shane no I did that about two months ago I’ve drove it about 10,000 miles so far and I’ve not had any issue every once in a while when it’s cold in the morning I have to turn the key off and restart it because of no boost. In your situation and what you’re describing it definitely has a broken tube or you have an intake switching problem like I had on mine. If you can turn the key off and restart the vehicle and you have boost there is something broken somewhere and it probably has nothing to do with your alternator. Anyways feel free to ask me a question anytime I’m always happy to help

What year is the van and what engine?

We tried that on our van it doesn’t work any better than what it did before with the vehicle in park and idling I am using about 20% engine load which I don’t think is right and I can’t hear the turbo anymore inside the vehicle

No sorry I do not have a video on replacing the EGR valve but I can tell you that it is extremely simple if you take a look at it I believe there’s only four bolts that hold it down.

If you’re looking at the engine with the hood up it will be on your left-hand side right behind The coolant bottle mounted to the engine near the oil fill neck. I believe it has a tube that comes up into the top of it. It is right on top and very easy to change. Google a picture and it will show you exactly what it looks like. Well now I have a completely new process that delete the flaps I’ve been doing for the past six months that makes it to where everything thinks it’s still there

Yeah I ran it that way for 12,000 15,000 miles but did not keep run it that way because it will close off the inside, temporary solution I always fix them right.

The resistor value you used was 4.7K ohm, which is 4700 ohm !!

hi, my 2015 is doing the same thing now, I see your post was a year ago, what was the fix? Thank you for any insight and help.

On my 2007 Sprinter 3.0 turbo diesel, I had the intakes replaced and all new seals and gaskets put on the hoses, etc. Then I used my Autel scanner to get rid of all codes and finally got rid of the check engine light. Yet, I still have low turbo boost. Not all the time, though. When starting cold the turbo works, but then the boost falls off after few miles of driving. @ mechanics here in hawaii looked at this and can’t figure our why this is a problem. Ideas?

Well at a cold start up you need to have somebody watching underneath the hood looking at the pipes I’m certain you probably have a broken pipe somewhere in the boost system. You can also spray soapy water over all the pipes and where the leak is at it will spray out. That should take care of everything you need once you find that leak. Obviously it’s just a guess but I hope it helps you out. That’s what always happens to me after I did all that work it was generally that I forgot a seal or something was not staying together the way it should

Yep it's a leak somewhere or your turbo needs a rebuild.

as noted below 4.7K is not 4.7 ohm it's 4700 ohm, resistors don't have polarity either did I miss it? are the flaps locked open or closed? still, Thanks for the tip!

Yes that was definitely a mistake that I made in the video luckily I showed the package. The president makes mistakes and stuff that he says all the time so I suppose it’s OK for me to do it to . The Point of the video is that this is a temporary solution. Meaning that it doesn’t make a difference if they are open or closed and to be honest with you I don’t know if they were open or close. Generally they are stuck open. I’m sorry I wish I had a better answer for you than that I really don’t think it makes a whole lot of difference though because when the flaps are closed there’s still air moving through the Intakes and the only reason the flaps are there are because of emission regulations That the United States put on them

Well if you don’t get any codes for it probably not possibly but the 2012’s going to have rail sensors so this bypass will not work

What if you trick the egr I have seen a KZread where they jumped #3&4 with the same resistor you used would that stop the carbon build up? Thanks great videos

that’s a very good theory But once the carbon is built up on the intakes it is there to stay in till you remove them and clean it or you replace the intakes . I’ve never really given that much thought but I think it would be better if the carbon was passed through the engine like it’s supposed to be so it can possibly be burndt off by the catalytic converter system. Even though you’re cutting off the rails from switching the carbon is still going to exist and it’s going to build up more and more in the engine and in till many things have to be replaced. So this is only a temporary solution. And like I stated in the video I do not know how long you can run the vehicle like this and I cannot guarantee that it won’t cause other problems down the road I’m certain that it will. However I am going to test it on my vehicle and see if I can get 600,000 miles (right now it has 199K.) out of it without changing the intakes. Of course that’s gonna take a lot of time and I may not ever make it there but I would be interested to see what’s going to happen in the future. I think When I sell this particular van I’m either going to sell it with a free intake replacement (maybe) depending on price or I’m going to be the mechanic that works on it for the rest of its life. I’ll just have to wait and see who ends up buying it.

Ford Racer. I would be very curious to see what would happen if you did that. Since your vehicle only has 50,000 miles on it that is ridiculously crazy that you’re having any problems whatsoever. That’s why I think it’s something very simple. And very unlikely that you have a component failure or something that is internal going on with the engine. Maybe some other Sprinter people will chime in about this. I personally have never seen problems with these vehicles with less than 150,000 miles on them that’s why I think the world of them. And whenever you work on one of them you can just tell that things are built to last hundreds of thousands of miles. Just out of curiosity is yours a blue tech? I really have no reasoning for asking that question but I’m curious

in my 2016 m Benz Sprinter 2500 2.1 Diesel engine I have accident and both air bags were deployed I put new ones already . I replace air bag module also an I put new pyrofuse the one in top in the battery but still have srs code b1330 . is any crash srs sensor some where ? I look for impact crash sensor in front of the van but there is not impact sensors on it . any help I really appreciate

Yes on some models they have a rail sensor and on them models this will not work sorry

The Clay Way Thank you much appreciated. I see in another comment you mentioned sometimes you had to restart due to no boost. Has this set a check engine light for you? How often would you say you have to do this? Sorry I’m just from Canada and our winters get a little cold and long haha.

Having constant issues with my 2020 Sprinter going back to the shop for dealer service. Throwing a P2080 code in my generic reader (Egt sensor) and limp mode constantly. They’ve replaced the egr cooler, egr, checked all the harnesses and god knows what else, still throwing same codes.

It’s more than likely the sensor next to the EGR sensor near the cooler… I can’t look for the life of me. Remember what the center is called exactly but there’s two of them side-by-side. It’s probably just escaping me so when my memory comes back, I’ll probably message you down here.

Make sure you’re sticking it in the right holes. And I’ve never had that happen, so technically, it should not be possible. I’m assuming you’re not putting it in the right place. I don’t know if I said it in the video but later models, this Trick will not work because they have a rail sensors. I probably didn’t know that when I made this video.

I’m sorry to say Juan that’s because you have rail sensors and you’re gonna have to fix it properly. When you take them out you can ship them to me I will delete them so you won’t ever have this problem again and I’ll clean the shit out of them they look like brand new on the inside

No offense Mark I know I’m a little bit hard to watch sometimes……. But I answer that question in the video. Your answer is yes………. Technically speaking. It depends if you have rail sensors, on how long it will work this is a temporary fix just like I said in the video. Cleaning price can change so when your ready email me or look me up on Facebook Usually about two to $300 less than a new site I was on about 7k before I fixed them The problem is that all the carbon is going into the exhaust system and is going to cause other problems so getting it repaired as quick as possible is the best thing to do this is a temporary solution.

No not at this time the reason I haven’t is because of federal regulations and emissions control if I come up with a solution for that I would not be able to publicly put it off because I would be breaking the law and could get in serious trouble by passing federal emissions. I would love nothing more than to do that and I’m certain that I could figure it out

I used your resistor trick for the swirl motor and it worked like a charm.Thanks so much. I now know my turbo is working fine. I no longer have the codes P-2015 Intake Manifold Runner Position Sensor/Switch Circuit Range/Performance Bank 1 (why only on bank 1 IDK Mkes no sense) Besides that I have P 242f DPF Filter resistance, P-040B Egr sensor a circuit, and P 0101 Mass Air Flow (MAF) Circuit/Performance Malfunction, and i still have P 2006 Intake manifold runner stuck closed bank 2, and P-2007 on bank 1 but the turbo is kicking in . I figured the P 242f DPF and P0101 MAF are related both to airflow figuring if the dpf is restricted the MAF will not see enough air flow. I purchased the iCarsoft MB II scanner as it can do a regen of dpf and the liqui moly dpf cleaner and purge. After I did the cleaning it was the first and only time i started it and no cel came on. I tried to do the regen but it ( the regen) shuts down after 2 minutes saying conditions were not met. According to the scanner my dpf soot level is 2.63 g/l and ash is 0 g/l. Any help would be appreciated,i would gladly pay you for your time to assist me.Also a couple of weeks back I asked you for a price on your intake cleaning service but did not recieva a reply. my e mail is chircom@verizon.net

But I do rebuild them you may wanna watch my video on that you can try anything you want at home but it will never stay at least that was my experience anyways I tried four different ways of cleaning these intakes until I finally figured out a process of doing it

Check and make sure you do not have a busted hose. The intake hoses swell up when they’re under boost and sometimes they crack. Sometimes it’s even hard to see where they’re cracked that you have to have somebody inside the vehicle rev up the engine. As long as it’s creating boost you may hear the air escaping. Unfortunately that’s my best guess off the top of my head I hope it is helpful for you when you get it worked out

Got a 2007 sprinter that we just deleted the swirl valve and removed the plates on the rods so all intake ports are open. Also had the pcm tuned by Eurosport but still having the same problem. You can hear the turbo spool but still no power and no check engine light. Any ideas?

@The Clay Way can you please help me with my 2007 dodge sprinter I had a mechanic who decided I replace the engine because of no compression issue and I did but still have the same problem with the newer engine (87k on it) . I took it to Mercedes dealership and they charged me 625 dollars just for diagnostic.I have full report from them is there a way I can send it to you so you can help me with some ideas.The dealer estimate is 13k to fix it which I can not afford it but I believe it should not cost that much.Please HELP.Thank you

Just bought a 08 dodge sprinter 2500 looking forward to trying this as mine has the intake problems. I was in an Auto Zone before and noticed them selling a kit by STP that attaches into your intake tract (air) and sprays and injects cleaner I believe 39.00 with 1 bottle. From the gunk i saw you take out in this video Im thinking 2 or three bottles !! It says for gas or deisel. Just to let you know when you talk about the resistors you say 4.7 ohm , when the package your holding says 4.7 K the k is thousands (so I believe it should be 4.7 thousand ohms).

Yes it’s 4.7 K , this is a temporary solution it will cause other problems if you continue running it with that that way. And that cleaning the intakes will not work. With that solution that you’re talking about. The only way to truly fix this problem is to replace the intakes with new OEM ones or have them rebuilt. Yes they are 4.7 K I’m sorry I miss spoke.... regretfully that repair after a bit of time will cause more problems than what you would have if you just replace the intakes properly and unfortunately I’ve tried to do what you’re talking about injector cleaner etc. etc. it does not work I’ve taken the intakes out and soak them in carburetor cleaner for three days that seem to work at first but two days later they were seized up again. Then one time I thought that I had it licked and I put them in the vehicle after I cleaned them and two weeks later they locked up again. Fast forward to now four years later I actually figured out a way to fix them permanently and make them work as good as OEM if not a little bit better.... I will post a link to that video in the next thread

Well google Green diesel engineering, their solution is the best out there, have it for 5 years 250k on 2008, I wish I got it earlier, still original cooler seals (knock the wood)an. van runs like champ totally reliable now, no increase in emissions, however is marketed off-road only to cover the a.s. Clay is right this and EGR was added to 642 engines for US market to comply with regulations and create gold mine for the dealerships - nightmare for the owners.

More than likely you’re experiencing that it’s not working at all because you have rail sensors they do not allow you to bypass the intakes

Yeah I think it’s pretty safe to assume you have rail sensors and that’s why it won’t work. You will have to fix probably

The orientation if the resisters color bands doesn’t matter . Its not a diode. Good info however

I’m certainly aware it’s not a diode, but I’m also aware that I miss speak quite often. I’ve got a lot of stuff rolling around in my brain. Everybody pretends like Joe Biden does it so just pretend like I’m Joe Biden ….

It will work unless you haveEKAS sensors then you will need to delete them
