Mercedes S600 field find 1st start in years. Old start cold start.

Автокөліктер мен көлік құралдары

This had been sat around for literally years, and it needed moving,
After a lot of messing it started and ran.
It originally came in with top end knock but we think it has never had an oil change so what can you expect..
It has an amazing spec it even has a an air conditioned wine cooler in the rear seat armrest.
My phone decided to loose the video of me actually driving it, so inserted a knackered ml320cdi cold start in the mix too...

Surprisingly, it's not hard to restore an S600 like this. Just a lot of patience and parts sourcing. It can be done and they'll act like new. Never underestimate a W220

One of the best engines ever made. NEVER be intimidated by stories or comments. If a man built it, a man can fix it. Follow a systematic logical approach to get it running perfectly, then throw a header on it. Plenty of info available online from guys who have conquered every "problem" engine. Have fun, nice car.

Couple of pints of paraffin in the old oil.. Let it just run for an hour or so. Then an oil/ filter change (cheap stuff will do) but don't run the engine hard. It wont rev over three grand anyway in park. Give it another O/F change with good synthetic and at least it will be cleaned out and probably unstick the lifter. Fully charge the battery (off the car). Clear all the fault codes stored. Drive It. Hit the up down on the suspension repeatedly while doing at least 50kmh and toggle the ABC sport a few times. This should clear the ABC, BAS and ESP problems. Oh, put lots of petrol in it :).

Your probably right, on some counts, the car came to the field several years before with top end knock, highly suspected it had never had a service, they changed the oil and filter, ran it several times, pronounced it still ticking and needed at least a top end rebuild or engine. Owner has other cars, didn't want to spend the money, it has sat. It was on quite sideways slope, and I would of probably put 2 gallons fuel in if it was me. The oil was up to level on the computer.

Could you not have bought the car, refurbished it and sold it for a profit before it became so far gone with sitting unused? The same could be said for all those cars sat around for months which I assume have come in with similar stories. A salvage yard near me refurbishes and sells interesting cars sold to it as scrap and they go back on the road. Often what makes cars uneconomical to repair is the cost of labour searching for a problem and pursing false leads. If you can do the fix yourself that cost is cut out and with a bit of time and a few parts you've got a nice Merc you can use or sell.

This looks like the earlier 1999 - 2001 non bi-turbo 5.8 V12 367 BHP model ?? I had the 2004 version of this same car (S600) in Maroon with Cream leather seats and walnut wood trim. It was 5513cc (smaller 5.5 version of this same engine) but it had 2 turbos bolted onto it and an inter-cooler, which made it produce close to 500 BHP ! (493 BHP if I remember rightly?) I have to say, that this was one of the best and nicest looking cars I had ever owned and it was very fast for what it is !! (a big saloon car weighing over 2 tones) I part ex'd it in 2014 for a 2009 CLS63 AMG which is also a brilliant car and also very good looking too, but somehow it doesn't quite match the ride quality of my old S600 even though both cars have height adjustable airmatic suspension. I now miss my old Mercedes S600 now !! even though its power delivery was more lazy and lay'ed back compared the CLS63 AMG !

The W220 V12s don't have dipsticks. It might have a tube with a plug, and if so, you can buy a dipstick. Otherwise you will have to drain some oil to see the quality of it. When you've gone that far, may as well do a proper oil change, which is required after sitting for over a year.

A drug dealer I got involved with took me to see his 600 getting worked on. The problem started with his dash lights coming on when he stepped on the brake. He took it to a shade tree mechanic place along a street called Caesar Chavez Boulevard (You know what part of town this always is if you lived in California).. The guys wore bandannas on their heads and purported to be Mercedes "experts". They gutted the interior and waited 6 months for a new wiring harness to come from Germany. The guy thought he was being screwed so he took me to see the car. They had the harness on the floor.. it must have weighed 200 pounds. The guy bent the wires back against their natural lay and all the insulation cracked. (Remember..the original problem?). I noticed that the catalytic converters were missing. They had welded in some jumper pipes. I figured they stole the converters. I didn't say anything. The harness came in and they reassembled the car and the problem with the dash lights persisted. He paid them 14K for the work and drove away. They said it was the "computer". He came to me about 2 months later and said he was going crazy with trying to get someone to get him a computer for the lights. I opened his trunk and swapped out a single prong bulb that someone had forced into a two prong socket. The single prong was jumping across the two terminals and causing the dash lights to be back fed from the brake circuit. I replaced the bulb in about 2 minutes and the guy got an angry shocked look on his face. He asked how much I owed him. I told him $100. He tried to argue with me and I told him that he willingly bent over for the royal screwing the other guys gave him. He punched me in the face and threw a $100 bill at me and burned tires all the way out of my lot. (I looked under the car.. the converters were still gone.. I didn't have the heart to tell him).

In personal experience, There coulve been damage done by not putting atf or deisel in the cylinders. Also Looking at the plugs and checking the air cleaner would've been for the best. Only because of how long it sat, regardless or the maintenance being done right before it was parked.

They aren't my dogs or my place. They are let off in the nights, (they are fed twice a day, given loads of water, given treats and toys etc.) but in the day the white one is a bit racist and wants to eat any spanish people who come in range, so in the day she is tied up. The black one is normally off chain but followed the landlords dog onto the road and headbutted the side of a new jeep. We have to pay for the dent so he is on the chain for a bit. They are guard dogs...
