Differential Oil: amzn.to/2zqCkLo
8mm Hex Bit Socket: amzn.to/2zry0ve
Liquid Transfer/Siphon Hand Pump: amzn.to/2gWgpEY
Change out your Mercedes transfer case gear oil; This is important in keeping your Mercedes running smoothly and quietly as spent gear oil leads to premature parts break-down, excessive transfer gear noise and higher fuel consumption.

    If I ever remove the drain plug first and find that I can’t remove the fill plug, I simply turn the car over and fill the differential through the drain plug. It damages the car quite a bit, but at least I can drive it when I flip it back onto the wheels.

    Thank you for sharing this video. I was able to perform this fluid change following your precise instructions with few modifications as the HEX bits were different sizes for the fill and the drain (S550 W221), and this process saved me over the elevated quote my regular mechanic provided me with inflated fluid price and post-pandemic higher labor prices.

  • @iRepairAutos

    @iRepairAutos

    5 жыл бұрын

    that orange clean is golden... I'm not sure what sound you're hearing it could be a wheel bearing or two... You could (kinda risky) put the car in neutral at that speed and see if the noise goes away. If you do put it into neutral- bring the vehicle to a complete stop before you put it back into gear.

  • @conormcgregor5460

    @conormcgregor5460

    2 жыл бұрын

    Could be your universal joint if you observe your drive shaft from transmission to rear differential grab it and try to turn it clockwise and counterclockwise. It won't turn unless the vehicle is in neutral but if you feel that it moves centimeters in either direction that could be the problem. A bad universal joint can make a whining scratching sound consecutively in drive or reverse at certain speed. And also if it clunks and the vehicle buckles when you engage it from reverse to drive and into park sometimes too it could be that transfer shafts universal joint worn out and needing replaced. They tend to wear as they take on different levels of torque and stress or heavy loads.

    @@NewShockerGuy actually you aent thinking for yourself if you rely on a shop manual to tell you if a plug is working. Mercedes sells these for arond 10.00 and they likley cost .25 to manufacture. So sure replace them.

    +Yuvi Chauhan Mercedes recommends new plugs. Probably could get away with old ones. But Mercedes doesn't chance it. For the small price you should change it out.

    The video says MB approved 75W-85 gear oil. Mercedes has provided approvals for a number of brands of gear oil, and you can probably find a copy of their list of approved products on line. 10W-30 is usually motor oil, and is not the correct product for this application.
