    Had to put my W124 through the annual safety/emission test last week. Failed on a CO2 reading of 0.58ppm when the level should be 0.20. Changed the spark plugs and air filter, cleaned the air intake tubes, scoured the carb body, put some injector cleaner through the fuel system and finally, my garage guy fed some 'carbon cleaner' liquid into the inlet manifold via a spare, unused intake pipe. Wow, performance is up dramatically but even better, the CO2 reading dropped to an amazing 0.02ppm. The test centre was amazed at the second results and a government inspector present at the test centre put my car through the whole test again. SCORE! On the road for another year.

    Yeah, I noticed that seal is a concern, my previous owner was nice enough to lather the mating surface with anti seize to help with leakage so when I went to swap out the throttle body I got a nice present on my hands. I'll have to replace it and clean everything up sometime but I when I checked for vacuum leaks there wasn't one at this connection.

    I noticed the last time I checked my fuel mileage I was down to 12 mpg on my 2001 e320. I've been doing a lot of other work on the car so hadn't tried to figure it out. Then I saw this video a couple weeks ago so I ordered that seal. I couldn't find this video again till just now but I remembered something about 2 seals. FCPEURO only showed one but I went ahead and ordered 2 thinking there was one where the tube hooked to the MAF. So I got them and was able to get the tube off like you showed but there is only one seal and they only showed one size for my car. I was able to get that oil breather tube off at the air inlet so that was no problem. I had a hard time getting that e10 bolt off but got it by using a wobble joint. I dropped it trying to get it on so it's still in the gravel under the car. Lol The tube sets pretty solid even without that bolt so no worry. The old ring on my car was actually still pretty flexible and I'm at 152k miles. I don't think this car was well cared for so I bet it is original. I'm in Vegas so it gets pretty hot here. You mentioned that far clip on the cover breaking off and gluing it back on. What glue did you use to hold that on? Mine is broken off but the cover doesn't rattle so no biggy. It will take me a while to see if my mileage improves but I hope it does.

  • @fupabox

    @fupabox

    3 жыл бұрын

    ABS pipe cement sometimes works well on those Benz abs plastics ..other times 5 minute plastic epoxy will work. The dealer can actually order the whole clip assembly for about $10 , so I don't even try to glue them any more .

  • @wernerdanler2742

    @wernerdanler2742

    3 жыл бұрын

    @@fupabox I'm not sure about that because the clip is made onto the cover. Mine is broken off the cover. As long as it stays on and doesn't rattle I'm not going to worry about it. I just went out this mourning and found that bolt and finally got it on after dropping it 3 more times. I ended up breaking a very small hose connection that is by the big box with,a screwed on lid. It is a very small line and I have no idea what it is for. I don't know why there is a connection in the line there instead of just a straight line unless that little connector is a check valve or something. Mine is an 01 e320.

    @@fupabox my mileage seems to have improved since I did this. Yea! I went up to 16 mpg in town from the original 12. I don't drive much anymore since I am retired. I take it out on the freeway occasionaly to keep the carbon burned out. Mine has the AMG sport appearance package but as far as I know the engine is the same as regular models. It does have shorter stiffer springs though. Kind of a rough ride. Lol I think I only paid a little over $5 usd for the seal at FCPEuro. Thanks for this video. It really helped.

    I would do the air intake gasket and the plugs (you can get the plugs at rockauto for around $100 and they are pretty easy to change in the ML since there is a lot of room).. also do the idle relearn ( I have a video on it , but I can explain it simply here ) turn the key on in your truck until all the lights and warning lights on the gauge cluster come on..the position before starting the car... leave it like that for 10 minutes without touching the gas pedal.. that will re-teach the car where idle should be . Let me know if that makes a difference

    I mean 6000 will be in neutral during drive. RPM limitation does during full load - press gas in maximum in 1st gear. On our V-6 m112 e320 it does and rears were badly clogged they needed removal & replace with stright pipe, now MPG & power are up / Oil consumption down. I think you have 4 cylinder but IF you have 4 cats beware the rear set of Cats clog but takes forever to trigger the front CAT 02 sensors - by then you'll have all KINDS of trouble misfire codes you name it. Mine was a 49 State US Mercedes If you're non US you may only have 2 Cats - they could still be clogged, use an Infreared Temperature guage to tell temp the front of Cat SHOULD be cooler, the rear warmer by 50 to 150 degrees. If Front is hotter by ANY amount, the Cat is clogged and needs changing, cleaning or eliminating. I don't recommend removing ALL Cats as your engine needs the O2 sensor input to run engine well. Hope this helps you or others....

    Tone320 P I would check the license plate lights .. they tend to get a bit rusty on the back side of the light assembly, and make contact with one of the wires... To remove the headlight switch you need to remove the emergency brake release handle.. the screws are pretty easy to see , but there is a hidden one you can only access when the release handle is pulled out, and held in the out position.

    Have you installed one? I am thinking about it to solve an oil consumption issue with my E320 with M112.

    I have the m112 engine and when idling the ignition degree is -16. Is that normal? If not, how can I fix that?

    -16 is perfectly normal at idle

    Procedure is not the same… just because they have a similar block doesn’t make it the same job.. title is misleading
