    Harry you are a hero. I do not really love this car, but love the farm boy dream that is gleaned from your videos that anyone - if the work hard enough, have a lucky break here & there (and make the most of those circumstances) - can enjoy whatever they like and do whatever they do feel. Simply nothing compares to seeing you take delight in what pleases you most...Sampling cars and sharing it with the world. I salute you sir

    "You don't see many Defenders barrelling along at 130mph". No, Harry, you don't. But then you don't see many Defenders with a 540hp twin turbo V8 engineered by AMG.

    The live axels and so on sure compromise handling on the tarmac. But this old-fashioned mechanical engineering is still the only thing, which really work off-road. If you are really going to cross the whole continent of Afrika, the Land Rover Defender and this thing and possibly an old Toyota Landcruiser will leave everything else, which isn´t a bit truck, completely for dead. What is completely bonkers though is to put 500 hp in a dedicated off-road vehicle. The old 3,5 liter V8 in the Land Rover had - what? - maybe 140 hp, if you were lucky?

  • @davidmg1925

    @davidmg1925

    6 жыл бұрын

    fundiver198 The first range rovers probably got 110hp but remember that translates to bullet- proof torque where you need, at the bottom end, for those awkward moments. It was enough to propel em up to about 100 which was cool for the day. Lets be honest this is a bit of play- boy machine.

    The Balkans is still full of old GWagens, it was a Steyr design and is still made in Graz. This one has the totally wrong tyres to go off road. How do they avoid the solid axel roll-over at high speed, classic RR at 90mph is a possible deathtrap.

    How do they fit a V12 in an already crammded engine bay where a bi-turbo V8 almost has no room left?

  • @G55STEYR

    @G55STEYR

    9 жыл бұрын

    The V12 angle is 60 degrees so it's more narrow than the 90 degrees V8. For length it's ok because they had L6 in the past, and the intercoolers are outside.

    because the engineering required to get a 40 year old chassis designed for far less powerful engines to take such huge engines, and the suspension and brakes required to stop them, aren't cheap, and the volumes are quite low
