  • @MarcoCerqueira

    @MarcoCerqueira

    4 жыл бұрын

    It’s really a different animal. These android units are more about the features than the sound quality. Remember it still uses the OEM amp and speakers. The issue is that the output signal is being converted into a fiber optic signal. In my opinion you lose some fidelity through that conversion. Like I said, all about the features.

Do you find that when you use the up and down buttons on the steering wheel to change menu items on dash, outside temp etc, that it makes your head unit change radio station at the same time? Thanks for the kind words. I have not had that problem. I’m thinking you might of tapped into the wrong canbus wires. The buttons on the right of the steering wheel should be the ones that interface with the head unit. Also, it might be the canbus decoder box. I would play with those 2 wires to see if it fixes anything. Good luck.

    Thanks for posting this video, i was close in my build. You helped get me closer. I have no issues with powering on the HU properly. I’m just now having an issue with both of my decoders. The canbus decoder main harness that i received does not work, it has a wire connection going out, for something to plug into it, but I can’t figure out what it’s for. I have the can and acc lines hooked up. As for my fibre optic decoder, i’m running the harmon kardon system, it won’t detect the audio either, could that be because my canbus doesn’t work yet? Either way i’m kind of stumped here as to why some of these companies don’t even bother to provide instructions or diagrams at the least..

    Most people that reach out to me with issues has to do with the fiber optic decoder. Either they are malfunctioning or they bought the wrong one. Without the fiber optic decoder you will get no sound. Without the canbus decoder the steering wheel buttons will not be able to control the head unit, but you should still have sound.

    @@MarcoCerqueira Alright thanks Marco, I think I was sold the wrong fiber optic decoder, the wire that came with it had canbus lines... should've had ACC instead. It's alright though, the chinese company that also sold me my wiring harness had two external wires coming out of the canbus decoder side, in your video they seem to be wired directly to the main harness, but on mine they want me to plug them into something. I believe they are for the mcu rxd and txd (transmitting and receiving capabilities). pin 14 & 15 on canbus decoder.

    I know it’s a long video, but I show it it in there. I used a fused terminal to tap into an empty slot on the fuse box. When you remove the head unit you should be able to see a grounding terminal. You will see a lot of brown wires tying into a bolt. I know your car is different but finding a good ground should be easy. In the video description there is a link for the fused terminal I used.

    Great video, thanks! Does you car have a Harman-Kardon sound system? I'm wondering whether the decoder depends on an HK amplifier. I don't have a HK or Bose system in my W209 (CLK 200), but I do have an optical connection to the amplifier. I bought a decoder that supports ML, GL, R, SLK, W164 W251 (+Porsche Cayenne/Cayman) which I thought should work based on the overlap with the models supported by your decoder, but I don't get any sound. I removed the CD changer but replaced it with an optical loop. My old (COMAND) unit can still produce sound just by being connected to 12V/GND and the optical fibre cable (i.e., all other cables are unplugged). I measured all three connections to the decoder with a multi-meter. The optical connector inside the decoder is blinking and the cable from the vehicle is blinking as well. I wonder whether my Android unit is not sending some commands over the CANBUS to wake up the amplifier or whether the optical decoder box is incompatible.

    Thanks for sharing your experience, I really enjoyed watching this series, very thorough and descriptive. Its always an adventure tossing in new head units into Benz's. I am curious how you managed to get your behind the radio area organized. It doesn't look like you have run into communication issues on the canbus, but if you do have issues, twist your can+ and can- in the same direction to how they are where you have tapped in (twisted pair), that will reduce crosstalk on the network. I have run into that on a couple of installs. You could change your pinouts on the aftermarket harness see kzread.info/dash/bejne/galqzduFqMmtmpM.html most adapters can be rearranged when the manufacturer doesn't get it right, happens more than you would think.

    Thanks for the comments. I’m sure it will help others doing a similar installation. Wire management was was not easy. I made some of the wire leads a little longer and fit the Canbus decoder box and fiber optic box behind the ashtray area. That made a little extra room for the other stuff.

    I have 05 w211 and my head unit recently died. Shows Mercedes logo and shuts off..My question is: would new unit work if my amplifier (I think that's the problem) is broken or I have to repair that issue first? Thanks..

    I would say if your amp was the problem, you would have no sound. However it it shuts off completely, it might be something else. Does it play anything via blue tooth off you phone? Do the speakers work when you make a Bluetooth call?

    @@MarcoCerqueira Thanks for quick answer! Screen turns on shows, mercedes logo and turns off. It's completely useless, recently dead circle about one inch radius showed up,when I changed audio amplifier..I decided 100% to put android unit, just wondering can it work if existing system has troubles.Thanks..

    Again, it sounds like your head unit has the problem, not the amp. What do you have to lose, unless you are planning or getting rid of the car.

    I know this is old. Mark I hope they refunded part of what you paid for this. The problem is they have half of the units they supply saying they’ll support certain models when in reality they don’t. I”d bet the first HU they recommended to you was the one that has the proper hookups and so on. No way you should spend 1000+ in the end and still. Have to splice any wires to make this work. Don’t get me wrong SEICANE has the most OEM look with all the modern amenities that most prefer when updating their systems into the present day. One example though Joying has an Android 10.0 that is 1/3 the price is straight plug and play with an updated dash piece. Also the rear is single din so you’re able to fit all the extras in the back so much easier. It also has wireless Apple Carplay and now wireless Android Auto. I only post this as I’ve seen this happen to too many Mercedes owners and it’s frustrating to see. I also have a 2005 Chrysler Crossfire SRT6 that I’ve put a double din kit in and for those that don’t know the SRT6 is basically an SLK 32 AMG the only difference being the body panels, wheels and it’s a coupe and soft top compared to the hardtop convertible the SLK is. In fact they share 80% of all the mechanical and chassis parts. I only put this as SEicane claims they have a double din HU for an R170 but none of them ever came with a double din unless the owner had it modified to take one and I highly doubt any aftermarket company would build a HU specifically for that platform. www.joyingauto.com/joying-8-inch-car-radio-for-mercedes-benz-w203-w209-2002-2006-plug-and-play.html

    Marco Cerqueira, when you splice the red and orange wires to ACC 12v, you both do it with one from the ashtray right? in the video I see that the ashtray cable is black and yellow?
