Mercedes Benz 190E Valve Cover & Oil Filler Cap Gasket | Maintenance Series EP 1/3

What‘s up everybody? I had a struggle with my MacBook since iMovie crashed and I was unable to edit videos for days. So I decided to do it on my Tablet which was absolutely time consuming. But here it is!
First things first I know the angle is not always the best and I’m already working on my recording skills and setup. I recorded this video on December 2019 few weeks after I bought the Baby Benz.
Before starting with the restoration I decided to do a quick maintenance on the most important things, just to see what needs to be replaced and which parts can be restored. After a few months of riding this beauty I know approximately what needs to be done now.
This is the first part of the Maintenance series. Here I show you how I replaced the valve cover and oil filler cap gasket on a M102 E20 engine.

Thanks Bro! If he wanted to charge you 560$ just for replacing the gasket, you should find another mechanic 😅 I don’t know the prices in your country but this job shouldn’t take longer then 1,5 h for someone with experience.

Do you know if the valve cover gasket is with or without level? I don’t want to order the wrong one either 😬

I can imagine. The feeling was terrible when I noticed that I had the wrong one hahaha. The only difference between those two gaskets was the bulge on the engine. Check this spots on your engine to see which one you need (right side). Wrong gasket - This one is for engines which has the round metal on the engine (10:54) Right gasket - This rubber piece fills the empty space on the engine (12:12) Bulge on the engine (right side) - I don't have the round metal (13:25) I hope this helps you out. Yooo! So I’ve basically gotten to the same place but I was cleaning my merc head like you from 8mins onwards, underneath there’s three screws holding three bits of mesh wire. Turns out that’s cracked and split. I don’t know the right term but when your brushing it what is that part called so I can buy it? Been trying to figure it out for ages. It’s legit a plastic thing with three bolts under the engine head. I need that part before I got out my gasket cover on 😭 please help!!!

How can the gasket be wrong? What's the difference?

There is a bulge at the end of the engine. Just look at the gasket which has additionally rubber piece which doesn’t fit on the cylinder head.
Last October, I had the same valve cover oil leak then my mechanic fixed the issue but applying silicone glue instead of a new gasket, so far the leak has not reappeared again. Thanks for the video and sorry for your new gasket gone to waste!
Can the ignition wires go anywhere or is there an order?
