It's such a delight to watch someone who knows what he's doing and doing it efficiently
From the car to the mechanic’s to the content, and of course the witty comments makes this must watch viewing. So thanks for sharing this with us all Sir.
I admire your restraint regarding the legacy problems. My take is that the customer had a poor running car had a go at trying to fix it himself then gave up when he couldn't.
This 190E is from the golden years of Mercedes. Repairable with your own hands without the need for a scantool. I'd have one of these in a heatbeat if I had the money and the space. What I like is that you use genuine or OEM brand parts. It can be pricey but it is always money well spent. I hope you will be able to feature a W123 or R107 if you already haven't done so.

a W123 is my dream car (but wouldn't refuse a W124) esp with the Blaupunkt radio cassette and M-Tex interior - from back in the days when MBz knew how to build a propah motah
Excellent editing makes these blogs fascinating and fun to watch..What a superb mechanic!

Glad you like them! Thank you 🙏
Them old engines were originally made to run with non resistive plugs. NGK still make non resistive plugs so that's what we pout in those old M102's and M103's. MB spare parts departments will tell you that the latest plugs they sell are fine for the old engines. You can only buy resistive plugs from Bosch or Beru and they're the OEM MB supplier. MB dealerships don't want to work on those old Benz's - they send them out to independent shops. KE / K Jet sent out to Bosch injection specialists. If you do put resistive plugs in then you should change the ignition leads to the non resistive types. To tune the air fuel ratio you should use a multimeter on the diagnosis port.

You are 100% there, plug issues are the same on the M104's too. I hope the "adjustment" made to the TB was put back to where it was, cos it is rarely the adjustment that needs doing on these. Fuel pump, EZL, Fuel distributors all give issues and to get it right, you have use the multi meter...

@@theoriginalracingsnake But they obviously are experts because they have an AMG sign on the wall, they have a snap on tool and they are all 'men in black'. No seriously, I would rather have someone like this work on my car than a kid with a scan tool with access to a warehouse full of parts.

You need a fuel pressure gauge. The correct fuel pressure is critical.

Really like watching the old stuff. Brilliant brilliant content
Hi Guys . Got your link via High Peak Autos . Good to see someone who actually cares about cars and does not rip off customers . Wish i could say that about some of the garages i have used for my Vauxhall Insignia EGR Issues ..Anyway . Keep up the good work . Really enjoying your channel .
A mate of mine bought a 190E back in the day, and I wasn't impressed until I looked in the engine bay, and saw the engineering. Everything just looked more substantial and better made, and I've loved them ever since.

How exactly does something look 'better made'? Mercedes engines look similar to any other engine. And they don't last any longer than a Japanese or American engine.
You get a gold star for patience and perseverance. Well done guys
From the era when owning a Mercedes meant ‘owning a Mercedes’, if that makes sense. Excellent channel and a great video👍

The Car Wizard is constantly fixing other mechanics failed projects. I’m proud you stepped up and took a swing, even though you looked disappointed.
Much better than the newer stuff. I'm amazed it ran before you got it. All the best Jase.
I know what you feel when they miraculously forget to mention stuff... this one brings old memories about our old cars made in Romania, Dacia 1310, those had carburettors and used to clean them all the time. We used to say, with a plier and some wire, you'll never be stranded with your car. Thanks for the video, really loved it, shame that we are not close, would love to come by and say HI.
Love the 190e , I’ve had loads and loved all of them .
Superb video from genuine, committed, knowledgeable, professional mechanics - they don't breed 'em like that anymore. Thank you ever so much for posting this - it will help others to get even more enjoyment out of their 180/190's
Love the new intro. Keep up the amazing work. You'll be on the top of youtube for benzes soon.
Another great video. Very informative, as always.
Great video - very interesting. A friend had one of these years ago - lovely car! Glad to see it brought back to life.
Love my old 190e apart from annual service, very rarely needs much spending on it. Just found you and great content.
Excellent video you have great work ethic I like that you didn’t give up and solved the problem of the stuffed exhaust and got the stuck plug out I wouldn’t hesitate fetching my car to you your a good honest mechanic with a excellent attitude
That was riveting, I was sad you fixed it. A part2 would've been brill. Great seeing you having to conclude that when the obvious is eliminated, then the unlikely is all that's left.
You are the boys, keep up the great work and content
Wow! This one was rather unique. As always, very informative and entertaining.

What a new customer. Your mechanic is like your doctor. Tell them what's wrong and don't present with your medication. Wish I could have a 190 but ulez says no. A w123 I think next as there's too much tech in my clk
Another great video. Used to own 190e 1.8 in same colour with blue cloth. Bit slow but lovely to drive. My dad had a w124 230e and 260e, both diamond blue.

Really enjoyed the 190E video. My first car was a silver 190E in silver with black and grey trim it was a 1.8 too! I loved that car but had to sell it as I needed something reliable as I was teaching at the time.

Great Video Love the Mercedes 190E❤️❤️
Great channel,love it
i always use a half inch drive for removing plugs on old cars it reduces the flex on the extension and can stop the plug ceramic cracking while slackening, then refit with a 3/8 drive, changing plugs can become a nightmare very quickly, excellent channel btw sam
Really interesting video, great job! New follower
When you said you suspected there was no air filter in the case what you may have been hearing was reversion back through the intake valves due to huge exhaust back pressure. Good video, customers who dump cars void of fuel on me wind me up too :)

I'd love an honest garage like yours close to me, nowadays they all seem to want to rip people off. Well done lads👌
Great car. I had a 190 2 litre with the carburettor one of the best engineered car I have owned from Mercedes. Still regret selling it now. So interesting to see you working on such a car.
Lovely car, great video, wish you were about 1000 miles nearer to me!
I like seeing the old mercs still going strong and i run a 2004 e320cdi estate om648 engine but the 190 brought back bad memories for me as the engine blew up going to work in my car and the next day i found out my girlfriend wasnt just my girlfriend and before the week was out my dad had a stroke and was gone within a few hours but anyway glad you saved thiis one!
Bitter swee watching this, , had three of these, sold my most recent one when London got its ULEZ....my first one I tried to start again after the engine was running because it was so quiet. Thanks for the vid
Fantastic to see this 190E. I was working as a service advisor at Alan Day Mercedes-Benz Ltd in North London when these came out in 1982. We had one of the first demo cars and also the very first 190D in a few months later for their first services and they caused quite a stir particularly amongst the wives of our customers which is of course exactly what MB had hoped they would do. Back then the waiting would have been around 9 months to get one. I'd previously worked for MBUK and we bought each car from MBAG in Sindelfingen for about the same in deutschmarks as they sold them for in sterling. i.e. £1 = 4.3DM. So MBUK were selling a W126 500SE for example for the same amount in sterling as the bought it in deutschmarks. A £30k car on the forecourt, only cost them around £6.5K from Germany. What a mark up!!!!!! Keep up the great work lads.

I love how good you are use caustic soda to clean your garage floor
What memories. I remember that the idle adjustment pot screw is the last resort. If memory serves, the ECU takes 7 different readings from various sensors to get the correct fuel mixture. I chased down a bad idle on a 2.3 cossie and it turned out to be a short in the wiring to the ICV.
Fantastic video ❤

I brought a 190e a few years back for scrap, clean car but non runner. It turned out to be the pipe that fixes underneath the fuel inj system. It had come away from the rubber diaphram which was also badly perished so i changed that as well.Had a perfect running car after which i used for 6 months and sold for a good profit.

Seen this a few time with the older mercs now with exhaust blocking up. Whilst watching I had a feeling it might of been blocked. But nice diagnosis and great videos
I'm liking the regular videos and something like this one shows your experience. I've worked on a couple of motorbikes with blocked exhausts and I don't mind admitting going around the houses to work out what was going on. In the end the clue was no pulses coming out of the silencer but with multiple boxes I don't know if you would feel them from a car. The induction roar didn't sound right at the beginning but engine noises rarely come over well on videos. Someone locally had a nearly new JCB that suddenly went gutless. The poor mechanic ended up stripping half the engine only to eventually find out that a piece had come off in the silencer and blocked the outlet.

Lovely Job! Bought a 190E (2.0) for my mum in the early 2000s. About 70k miles. Great car, serviced twice a year and she put 300k more miles on it. No problems at all. She had a stroke and gave up driving sold it easily although a little baggy now.
