LOVE Mercedes velour. Better than leather anyday. It is quieter, more comfortable, lasts much longer, requires less maintenance, is easier to clean, grippier in corners and you don't get shweaty leather balls when you drive in summer.

My friend had one of these back in the day. Its like driving a bank vault..... This car is just amazing.

He didn’t say he wouldn’t push it on the open road. Mashing the throttle from a dead stop is something else.

Ooit de beste auto ter wereld. De 450 SEL was overigens "Vollgasfest", de 6.9 iets minder aangezien de thermische belasting een stuk hoger lag. Wat wel hielp t.o.v de voorganger 6.3 is dat deze auto vanwege de hoogte van de motorruimte een dry sump smering en een platter carter kreeg. Het veersysteem was overigens een licentie van Citroën.

This was my first Benz! Same color even, although mine had the tan (Tex leather) interior. A fantastic car to drive. I got it when there was no speed limit here in Montana. Sooo much fun!

My dad had the exact same car but with the steering wheel on the right hand side and we had beige leather seats and all my life dreaming of hopefully getting my hands on one ☝️. Still as fast as the e320 cdi which is still pretty good for a old legend car

oh you should use the 3.7 m112 from the s350 or sl350 or ml350, it is a swap i always think about the engine bolts right in and can use your current m112 2.4 ecu so it should be as easy a swap as possible on a mercedes, i always wanted an c240 or 280 sport with a 3.7 in, i think it would be a great daily driver. i have had cars with more power but the truth is you cant use the power in them so i want something i can use but has some guts

ps i would leave the c240 badge on it and put a 3.7 badge on the other side like they do with 450sel.........6.9.. lol

No it was not standard on 126 only optional. Ford Scorpio was the first car having it standard.

Lovely auto for sure, always considered to be the holy grail of imports in The States, at least in my mind. Where were you driving around? Beautiful inside and out.

With an 8.2 compression ratio, it's inviting a turbo . Sounds super smooth. Is it carb or the bosch jetronic?

@@JMSpeedshop I was a member of US based M-100 group on the internet (until they tarted asking $79 /yr to write on the web site) .My own 6.9 was exactly the same colour but with Cognac leather. Mine was destroyed some years ago by vandals but i only just sold the engine last week 😥. One of the guys in M-100 group bought a 6.9 which had been turbo'd back around 1979 . The car cost $20,000 new and the turbo mods on the then new car was over $30,000. The engine has a special cast allow intake and the turbo fed into the kjet manifold. It hadn't been run for years when he bought it but got it up and running with a lot of work (including new paint) . It was hardly ever driven from new. I remember having told him to replace the exhaust(a huge single pipe )which he didn't bother to do until one day he was driving and the muffler fell off ...the real power was suddenly released!. 😎😎 I also have a 6.3 (#1675) .I tell people that the 6.9 is the well trained thoroughbred and the 6.3 is the wild barely broken colt. I have owned a German delivered 6.9 and the difference in power between my Australian version and that one was huge. The German version really moved especially from 140 to 200kph when overtaking slower traffic.

Leuke en informatieve video. Goed adres dat Henk Grooten. Een volgende test zou ik doen zonder zo'n dikke onhandige jas aan, afgezien van het geritsel op video maakt t ook zo'n massieve indruk in toch destijds een grote auto.

Probably the same reason my E55 still has the Chassuer badges on the side, you bought a 450SEL with a 6.9 engine in it, kind of feels more "special" and hand crafted than just buying a 690SEL in my opinion.

Mercedes had a history of doing this for top-of-range models: 300SEL 6.3, 280SE 3.5, 450SEL 6.9 etc.
