Irregular rhythm was common for all of the Indo-European world. It's sad that the West has lost them more or less. They give an intense energy to the music and dance.

Yes, though the Minuet predates Jane Austen by quite a while.

By early 1800s, all Spanish speaking S Americans, as a result of successful independence wars vs. Spain, created new music song dances. In S of S America, they created some new minuets, like Argentine Minute Federal and Minue, Montonero(Highland). or Chile s Resbalosa. Minuet--- from royalist to republican. These S American versions all have youtube oerformance videos.

Yes, menuet step begins with a step onto the right foot, and the lady is on the man's right hand side.
