Mennato Boffa: The story of a great Maserati driver (ENG.SUBS) - A documentary by Ciccio Carleo
He ran his first races driving a popular FIAT 1100 and then with a special Lancia Aurelia B20, belonged to Cesare Fiorio's father. Some races with the Drake of Maranello in 1957 and from the Cavallino of Ferrari, Boffa was definitevely seduced by the legendary gallows of the Maserati TRIDENT. The exclusive story of the Neapolitan driver, born in Benevento in 1930, who won at the wheel of various Maserati Sports cars, graduating Italian Champion in the Sport class: 1960, 1961 and 1964. In particular with that incredible sports car with steel tube truss frame, the Maserati Tipo 60, designed by Giulio Alfieri and renamed "Birdcage" by the Americans.
A tenacious Italian gentleman driver, forgotten by many and who gave, on several occasions, hard time even to most famous professional drivers. And despite not having the constancy of Fangio or Stirling Moss, this Neapolitan driver has inevitably contributed to the racing history of that prestigious brand, which from Bologna to Modena is now about to turn 110.
Mennato Boffa was an icon for the Naples Grand Prix and a legendary hero for many Neapolitan drivers even today. His typical cynicism, typical of 50s "Self Made Man", led him to savor every moment of life and racing, as his son Vito tells us in this passionate story that arrive to the period of first Formula 1 cars.
