Or must realize you are playing volleyball in America! In FIVB rule, the ball was out. It says just "ceiling", not "ceiling above the apponent's playing area".

The ball hit the "ceiling" essentially and can still be payed (the bottom side of a speaker or vent without giving advantage to the BYU team)

По ощущениям - белые трубы - это тканевые трубы приточной вентиляции (как в лашане), там перфорация (дырки), через которые дует воздух. Мяч похоже оттолкнуло струей и он полетел назад =). На улице то же самое мог сделать порыв ветра.

Там даже не перфорация, если посмотреть ролик, там видно черные прямоугольники - выходы подачи воздуха. Если мяч не коснулся трубы и воздухом его сдуло назад (с разных ракурсов видно что он летит прямо туда, откуда прилетел, а не рикошетом с 90 градусов дальше, к зрителям), то формально судья права - касания не было =))))))))). На 5 секунде виден выход этой трубы (изогнутый). P.S. На 6 - видно выход ещё одной трубы - и мяч резко летит назад от него, словно ему придали дополнительную скорость (именно вентиляция).

I don't understand how the scoring in volleyball works. Was this like the match point where either team could of won the whole game?

No. Two teams play to get to 25 points first. The first team to achieve these 25 points 3 times wins the match. Each time you win its called a set. Byu was not about to win the game but when you get a point like this everyone would get pretty excited.

The winners were crushed after the game when they realized...they still play volley ball.

Albyrcia Owens you're right, I wasn't very clear. When the ball is dead by rule, then the whistle will sound. In this case, It didn't sound, so the other team should have known the ball was dead, but the were too busy celebrating prematurely and must have assumed the official was about to plow the whistle.

Alex Oroshchuk Если вы не троллите, вы путаете итерацию, о которой я говорю. Посмотрите с третьей секунды, САМЫЙ первый отскок вверх после подачи. Обратите внимание на его траекторию: мяч улетел в ебеня и вернулся, будто отскочил от трубы и лишь затем уже чувак его типа вывез из -за трибун.

The ball can hit the ceiling as long as it doesn't go over the net or it isn't a team's 3rd hit. But I'm guessing you don't watch volleyball, since you made that asinine comment about the floor.

Man I used to love volley ball so much. In middle school intramural I could take on people 1v4.

The ball hitting the speaker doesn't affect anything, seeing as it hit on BYU's side of the court. It would have been a different story if the ball hit a speaker on USC's side, but since it didn't, the point goes to the Cougars. Plus, both teams agreed upon it before the game, therefore making it a rule.

Faraz Choudhury I don't think anyone is questioning WHAT they were doing (but thanks for that extremely obvious explanation). THEY HAD ABSOLUTELY NO REASON TO CELEBRATE EARLY. No doubt, that mentality led up to this point where they were already down two games. Dead ball. It clearly and evidently comes off something on the roof. Moreover the celebration is completely standard in volleyball, ESPECIALLY after an ace (which this was, unequivocally). Essentially what happened is this NFL-replacement-ref caliber woman wasn't paying any attention to the play, and did not whistle the ball dead like she should have. While it's a funny video, this situation would not have come about except for officiator incompetence.

The ball is only out if it hits the top of a vent or light or something. In this situation it hit the bottom of a vent, making it still in play. There are several news networks that analyzed this and they all decided the right call was made

If the ball hit the ceiling on your side, it's playable. If it hit the ceiling or any other object on the opponent's side, that's a dead ball.

Watch some european volleyball. There shouldn't be point for white team.

Ball hits the roof. Its aut and point for red team. BTW very low level of play in there. Come to Poland and learn how to play it.
