If you check some of my older athletics videos, there is the Men’s 90-99 100m world champs, 80 year olds doing Pole Vault etc. If I can do stuff like that in my 80’s and 90’s I’ll be a very happy man 😂

No disrespect, but is there any concern for someone just dying on the erg?

It’s something a few have wondered about. At the British Champs about 10 years ago a few of us saw someone collapse during their race. St.Johns Ambulance crew were on hand to give medical assistance. It later emerged he did indeed suffer a heart attack but not because of exercising/racing. It could have happened at any moment, but because the event had medical assistance, that actually saved his life. Had it happened out on the street it would have taken longer for medical assistance to arrive which could have ended up being fatal. I’ve known quite a few people compete in their 80’s and 90’s and they are very active people. If you look through some of my older videos you’ll see 80 year old men doing pole vault and 90 year olds doing the 100m sprints at the World Masters Athletic Championships. After watching and getting to know a few older athletes over the years, it completely changed changed my view. Watching 80 year olds on the dance floor on a night out after the world champs once was something I’ll always remember seeing!

@@jumpinjono after all, physical activity extends life. As long as they listen to their bodies, they can continue to do what they love. Awesome to see them getting after it

@@Red-mo2uo I always remember meeting this guy John Hodgson when he was 89. He couldn’t wait until he was 90 so that he would move up into a new age category. He’d always joke about being in survival years but he raced right to 100 years old and lived until 103. He was an absolute legend!

@@Red-mo2uo those people had worked up to those levels they just didn’t walk in their with no experience. They already built the cardiovascular to be able to.

Can you really call it a world championship with a straight face if there is only 1 or 2 people competing in a given age group? I think not.
