    Windows (and other major OSs) keeps track of what chunk of memory each program uses, so when you close the program, the OS should clear all memory leaked by the program as well. So if you are heaving memory leakage with chrome for example, closing all tabs and the program can help to solve the problem from time to time.

    A quick correction: On most modern operating systems the OS keeps track of the memory being used too, allowing it to free up the memory when an application closes. So while a reboot of the system will always do the trick, you can generally just close and reopen the application to fix the leak.

    Could you do a fast as possible for CPU cooling height limits for cases. Some cases say they have a max cooling height of 165mm. But does this mean up to 165 as in 164mm and below will fit.. or does this mean 165mm right on the spot and below fits. It's always tricky picking a cooler when its right on the exact 160mm, 165mm or 170mm spec line.

    Some costume kernels for some android devices allow you to have a SWAP memory partition. There's an app that (with root and kernel support) will allow you to have 5gb. But keep mind that it will shorten the lifespan of your SD card and you can't do it on the internal storage because it well basically kill it. Also you need root to use an app to make a SWAP partition and a custom recovery to install a custom kernel that supports this.

    Generally, most memory leak happens in applications, modern OS kernel shouldn't leak. (It would be catastrophic) Many times, what happened is technically memory bloat, not memory leak. Which the application still keeps track of the allocated memory, but just not using them efficiently. (e.g. keeping cache that is useless in ram).

    Each GDDR5 module is 32 bits, so a 384 bit graphics card with 6 GB of GDDR5 would have 12 memory modules (384/32=12). Since 1 GB=1024 MB, and 6 GB = 6144 MB, you can divide 6144 by 12 modules and you get 512 MB, so now you know that a 384 bit memory card such as the 980 ti has 12 GDDR5 memory modules with each modules capacity being 512 MB

For your information, ALL ram is labled as GB although "1 GB" of ram contains "1024 MB" of ram, go correct every ram manufacturer and labeler, not me. Just like how Windows shows a 1TB hard drive as "931 GB", it is easier to explain the subject by only explaining the topic rather than explaining unnecessary instances to only complicate the matter even further.

    Linus, (or whoever from L. M. G read this) I really believe that a re-wording is necessary at 1:40 . When saying that the OS needs to use the hard drive space (Page file) instead of using the term "lead footed" I would say "extremely lethargic" or "molasses in January slow" or anything besides the current "lead footed" The reason I feel so strongly about this is that the term "lead footed" to 99% of people makes them picture a lead foot driver, meaning someone who drives really really fast because there foot is heavy on the gas pedal. And to someone who isn't very tech savvy and watches your videos to learn, they could definitely get the wrong idea from your choice of words.

Lately it seems many games are coming out with memory leaks and it'd be nice to see ya'll actually use tools and programs to help aid whatever the problem is. Hogwarts has had so many memory leaks it's crazy, and the Witcher 3 dx12 update introduced many new leaks there as well. • @begratefulandhappy

    Wrong info at the beginning of this video (around 1:00). Even if a program fails to release memory areas WHILE it's running, esentially "forgetting" what chunks it has used, when you close it, the OS releases them because the OS keeps its own tabs on things like that. It does not know the details, it does not know that the application reserved area B and then forgot about it, but it does know that it has been asked to reserve A, B and C so when you exit, A B and C is marked as free. Short version: leaky app leaks while it's running. If you close it, the OS brings the mop and cleans that mess.

    @EwanMarshall8 жыл бұрын

    It should be noted, if a process is closed the kernel should release all memory assigned to that process page, so as long as the issue isn't in the operating system kernel itself, restarting the leaky program should free up the resources.

    Every time I reinstall windows or install another preview I have to run "sc config NDU start= disabled" because of a memory leak with WFPN. Otherwise my ram usage goes to 99% after 4-5 hours. Think it's connected network monitoring or/and my ethernet driver.. it's most annoying really..

    Is true that a stronger CPU needs in general more memory RAM than a slower CPU? For example i3 4360 needs 3GB RAM for checking windows updates, but it finish let's say in 5 minutes, and G3220 is finishing the same task in 8 minutes but is using just 2.3GB of RAM all the time. True or not?

  • @Gameactive

    @Gameactive

    8 жыл бұрын

    +Coroi Alexandru-Mihai I really doubt that’s the case, since what the CPU does is dictated mostly by the operating system and the programs it’s running. _However_, I do see it as a potential bottleneck if you have significantly less RAM than the CPU is able to support, which would mean the CPU couldn’t perform at full capacity during RAM-intensive tasks because it’s either waiting on it (due to its slower clock speeds) or is unable to allocate more (due to a physical lack of it). So while it doesn’t exactly _need_ more RAM to work properly, it’s best to have enough to fully utilize the CPU you no doubt paid good money for.

  • @alexmihai22

    A stronger CPU will process much more data in the same amount of time, and considering also multiprocessing, a faster access to memory (usually i3 supports 1600 DDR3 while G3220 works at 1333MHz with memory), and just considering that get same job done in less time, RAM was charged more and then released fast, and on a slower CPU RAM is not charged that much, and it gets job done little by little. If you put an CPU single-core to convert a video it will take, let's say 3 hours. And you equip it with 4GB of DDR3 (Socket LGA775 with DDR3 supports P4). And you give the same job to an i5 4460, i5 will finish in about 20 minutes. But it will charge harder the RAM, due to higher necessity of space for maneuver. So, the better CPU you have, is good to equip it with more RAM, to ensure releasing properly entire processing power it has available.

    Why do I have memory leak (I think it is) everytime I start up my PC, trying to launch a game results in poor FPS (for example GTA V, 30ish FPS), then after a reboot the performance is 100+FPS. And this happends to every game I try to launch after first startup.

    Is this a memory leak? Windows 10 often tells me that I can't delete some files because a certain process is using them. Like uTorrent for instance, I tried to delete some files I downloaded while uTorrent was closed, normally this happens flawlessly but this time it told me that uTorrent is using the files... I was like waaaaaaat? Task Manager shows no utorrent where did that come from. Also just a few minutes ago I tried starting Steam but it wouldn't start so I decided to uninstall it. Again, I can't delete most of the files because of the same issue. I check Task Manager and there's nothing there. I restarted and I still can't uninstall it. What is going on? Is this what a memory leak caused by an OS is like?

    So viruses/viri?, trojans, and worms cant be a possible cause for such leakage? Specifically cookies in your firefox browser? I guess im stuck with the Windows 7's svchost.exe high ram usage problem until i find a better way.

    My new windows 10 laptop is running put of ram because some program is dumping a load of shit into the nonpaged memory pool. After a coule of minutes the system crashes. Sometimes i get a bluescreen, sometimes the screen goes black and sometimes it just freezes. Looks like a memory leak to me. The task manager doesn't show which process is using up all of the memory. What should i do?

    A while back whenever I'd remain in games application on Windows 8.1, the RAM would continually rise (I didn't notice this the first time) until it hits 7+ GBs of my 8GB of RAM. After a certain point, my PC would completely lock up and I'm forced into manually shutting off and back on my PC. I thought this was a RAM leak, but by the video it seems that may not be true. Does anyone know what this would be?

    Another issue could be heat. Cpu's cycles will reduce to nothing if the temperature rises too high, giving that slow or locked up feel after several minutes. We just had this issue, a guy even swapped a motherboard, from working sister machine, but ambient temperature was above what the MB could cool down to. External fan was placed outside unit.
