It’s certainly true that the more there are, the better the hymns sound. Small choirs are great, but hearing everyone participate is a heartwarming feeling.

It is, indeed! The OCA Church that I attend does congregational singing at every Divine Liturgy, Vespers and Matins.

The East has such a beautiful liturgical tradition. I love how unchallenging much of the music is to sing, but how rich it sounds in spite of it.

Hello! What is the phrase everyone chanted while the patriarch gave the blessing? @3:05

It's "Eis pola eti, Despota" Greek for "many years, master." It's chanted whenever a Bishop is presiding.

@@PrenticeBoy1688 I'm in Canada and was received at an OCA mission Parrish. I'm blessed to live in a city that has 10 Orthodox Churches, but chose the OCA so I could hear the Divine services in my own language.

The US is currently interesting and many including Greek parishes are getting away from using ethnic languages for services unless a predominantly specific large group of that ethnic background. While Slavonic is beautiful, and part of my heritage like mentioned already not everyone knows Slavonic. There’s many converts now. US orthodoxy hasn’t quite found its entirety as its own yet, but it will.

I'm a Protestant, and even I know enough Slavonic to get by. Rusyn variant.
