@@zeokingsilver yeah but abusive parents are a little different from a lover. You grow up being told and from seeing all the people around you that your parents are supposed to love you unconditionally. When your a young child even if the parent is abusive and toxic there is still apart of you that still wants their love and acceptance. As someone who also grew up with an abusive mother and a nonexistent father, I can personally say it took me a long time and a lot of good people in my life to help me realize that I didn't need them in my life. That I didn't have to "be nice and respectful because they gave me life". Momiji didn't really have that same support that me and a lot of other people had because of how his family is run. It’s funny, I feel like the 2019 anime overall does the dramatic elements better, but the 2001 anime does the sadder moments like this better. It feels like that those should be contradictory statements lol. Maybe it’s the fact that the 2001 anime was so much lighter and comedic, so when they did those sad moments it hit you even harder? And the amazing soundtrack doesn’t hurt either, I kinda wished they just kept the same soundtrack for the 2019 anime as it’s soundtrack was comparatively very lacklustre.

Just some months ago I watched all of "Fruits basket" season and I have been watching it, again and again, every single day, idk if this is normal but this anime really means a lot to me, idk whenever I watch it I feel calm and it makes me want to be a better person. these past years I experienced a lot of things, at some point, I gave up but the people around me especially my family were always by my side and supported me but I am glad I watched "fruits basket" because half of me was not healed, Tohru was not a special person only in anime but for me too, not only tohru tbh but half of the characters, some of them didn't have a good family, and some of them had a lot of sad memories but non of them give up and wanted their memories to be forgotten, I am trying to appreciate every little thing and accept the reality cuz after all we have to live with them, This got suggested to me after 15 years after I always go to sleep hearing Momijis violin on repeat, whenever I remember Momiji I end up crying so much cuz after all the sad Memories he is still so kind but he doesn't want to forget any of it.

I have watched this series many times. But this scene never fails to make me cry. I can relate to Momiji on some level, and especially what he believes.

I think when the Zodiac members are babies, their animal forms are babies too. However, some baby animals can be deemed *ugly*. Momiji may look like a cute fuzzy rabbit now, but baby rabbits in particular actually look like ugly hairless mice. They do have a cuteness factor to them but the average woman would freak out if her baby was suddenly "replaced" by a rat-like creature without warning. Most of the Sohma family members are not aware of the zodiac curse, and there is no telling who would become the parents of one until it is too late. It's a big family, so telling every single person will risk getting the secret out. While it is understandably scary to give birth to a physically ugly animal, it is still not right for Momiji's mother to hate him for that. It's a shame that she actually is a nice woman who would treat even Momiji kindly, but would instantly reject someone for turning into an animal.

Its this scene that's helped me get through some tough stuff... How much I wanted to forget. But like momoji I learned I wanted to keep the memory, and get stronger than it until I can grow stronger than the memory that hurts so much.

This was one of my first animes and I swear I cry everytime ,especially now that I have a son and daughter ,the part that breaks me the most is when toru says "yes ,all my memories at precious to me,every single one" as momiji is running past his mom smiling makes me cry like a baby

One thing that bugs me this whole time about this...or maybe it got answered in the manga/remake. Did nobody in the Sohma family ever told their spouses (or future ones) that anyone marrying into the family could potentially have kids that turns into animals when you hug them!? I felt like Momiji's mum wouldn't have reacted this badly if she had known beforehand or had time to mentally prepare herself.

When I started fruit basket I get bored in the beginning, but when momoji showed up with the stories I felt like he is the creator of this series. Most probably the writer is the momoji of this beautiful series.

For me, Momiji could be the second most valuable character after Ayame in this anime. The first one wants to make amends for his brother's past mistakes, while Momiji wants to continue to love his mother. Even though his mother wants to forget Momiji, because Momiji is the one affected by the shio's curse It's really very touching. Good kid😭😔😢. Even though this is an animated cartoon, it really teaches us to be kind to our parents, especially mothers. Even though she forgot us. I really lost as a real person with a fictional character like this.

It's easy to hate the mother, but you have to understand postnatal depression is a very real thing and it affects so many mothers of all areas of life. Unfortunately, unless they don't find treatment, this case does happen. For the story setting about an actual rabbit creature being born from you, and you can't tell anyone is absolutely something I can't fathom. That said I doubt she could have found treatment because of the situation.
