For those confused, I don't think this is about killing animals. It's about killing for fun/sport. All the animals she deals with were killed and left to waste, not taken to be eaten like it's meant to be. The boar was shot and left and next to the elk, there's 3 more corpses, all left to waste. So the message doesn't seem to be "don't kill animals, even if it's to survive", it's more like "don't kill other living creatures when it's not necessary".

She killed one of the moose hunters before they had a change to harvest the meat. Nothing about their actions on the surface indicated they were poaching or hunting for no reason (seems kind of off to set the story in a distant past when hunting purely for sport pretty much didn't exist). How do we know she did not kill the boar hunter before they had that opportunity as well?

@@viragszabo9739 I rewatched the scene, nothing indicates that, the guy intervened just after she was shot, they didn't have time to do anything else. The message that the video is trying to convey is frankly vague. Maybe he doesn't really have one? Voluntary and conscious in any case. Because otherwise it wouldn't have been the comments that would give it meaning. (may be voluntary on the part of the author).

Found it interesting that the blondie was allowed to live. Maybe she would return to spread the story of the forest guardian and the huntress as a warning against poaching? Finnish folklore could go against this entirely, I don’t know anything about it, but it makes for an interesting thought.

Outside of the song, this has pretty much nothing to do with finnish mythology or folklore. The forest and clothing makes me think its more south European or even American and the story is more wiccan than finnish paganist Edit:I missed the name of the short.. tellervo is a character from finnish mythology. Being either the daughter, wife or a servant to the finnish God of the forest, her job is to shepard his flock.

For those who don't know, Tellervo is a particularly charming and playful daughter of the forest god Tapio in Finnish mythology. In the Kalevala, the shepherd asks Tellervo to help protect the cattle: Tellervo, Tapion neiti, metsän tyttö tylleröinen, utupaita, hienohelma, hivus keltainen, korea, jok' olet karjan kaitselija, viitsijä emännän viljan mieluisassa Metsolassa, tarkassa Tapiolassa! I mean to be fair, she didn't seeml to mind hunting in general, only excessive hunting for sport/fun. She didn't come to the town to exact revenge for the goose killed for food in the beginning, she never harmed the Huntress or even the blond person, even though the latter was a direct threat to her. She was pretty objectively in the right, and didn't even kill. Just made people replace what they had taken.

Actually, back then, it was common to lose game due to their hunting with arrows. They’d almost always have to track their food after landing a shot, so it can easily be assumed that both the boar and the moose were for food.

Here's my theory/take: when someone hunts a moose, even for food, there needs to be a balance in regards to the population of the moose. Avoid overhunting, right? So maybe the forest spirit enacts this by turning one of the hunters into a moose for every moose they kill.

I mean, beautiful visuals and a cute couple, but are we just supposed to ignore that a medieval/fantasy hunting village is effectively being starved while unable to hunt, all the while countless people are going missing (leaving their families to think they are dead)? Like, there are over a dozen flyers implied to be for missing people, in a very small village of maybe a hundred or so people at most. And looking at the moose guy, he doesn't run or act like a person who was just changed into a moose would act, he just sits there like a moose. It doesn't seem like any vestige of the person remains, which actually is the same as effectively killing them. I...dunno. This doesn't quite feel right. Like, less "romance with themes of human civilization encroaching on nature" and more "romance with a serial-killing forest witch tormenting a small village." 😅

It's strongly implied that that "hunter" had also killed the boar and left it to waste. Also, Tellervo is no mere druid, but a deity - depending on your reading of certain passages in Kalevala, she's either a daughter of Mielikki (the creator of bears, and a guardian deity of the forest), or she *is* Mielikki.

It seems to be about wasteful hunting. Like the other guy said, the dead boar was left to waste and if you look closely, there's 3 or 4 more dead moose next to the freshly killed one. So it's at least implied these people didn't hunt to survive but for sport.
