I went on the Saturday in 1986 with my late brother, a Simple Minds fanatic, we both got sun burnt down one side of our faces and then were freezing in the night, but by far the best concert we ever went to, well over 3 hours, our first Simple Minds concert of many. I always tear up when I think of these brilliant, brilliant times going to see Simple Minds across the country with Steve ❤ The best of times.

........was there that same day - (still have the tee-shirt)....... remember a pile of pallets being set alight, right of stage, after the Cult finished their set.......

The genius that Michael MacNeil is. This video is truly haunting, sounds of the past, to a crowd long since dispersed but with the ingrained memories of sounds they'll never forget. I remember all the SM gigs I've been to and I can't wait for the next one, 30th March, Glasgow.

Michael Macneil is the one who has given this band their incredible and unique atmosphere signature sound. Great band , always liked them more than U2

Nicely done for doing this. I was 18 on 21st June 1986. What an absolutely amazing gig this was - nothing I have experienced since has come close to this in terms of how it felt. Best line-up ever & they produced some serious magic that night

Thank you,grazie. I'm a huge simple minds fan since 1983. In 1986 i saw the simple minds gig in Milan san siro stadium. 60000 people. When "waterfront" started, the whole crowd jumped....and I lost my brother. I only found him again at the end of the concert outside the stadium😂😂😂. Greetings from italy .ps I saw 22 Simple minds gigs from 1984 to 2018.

5 of us came down from Glasgow to the 1991 gig . 24 August … my 20th birthday . Had an amazing weekend . Brings back many happy memories . The week before we travelled down to Gateshead which was a brilliant day out too , but Milton Keynes topped it . OMD and the Stranglers as support . First gigs for the stranglers post Hugh Cornwell

This was my first ever concert, this clip brings back so many good memories, the weather that day was kind, and the performance from Jim and the band was electric. Looking forward to the tour this spring 😊

Thanks for bringing back memories of that Saturday in June 86, must have just finished my a-levels, drove there in an austin allegro, got sunburnt, the cult, bangles and simple minds, amazing. I wore that tshirt until it fell to bits.

Amazing video! Seen them for the first time at Roundhay Park in Leeds in 89 then Roma, same here. Was 16. Been to every touf from then on! Some 20 gigs and now waiting fro Milano and Roma in 2024! 🎉

Nice to see that you captured birds in the footage flying away from the bowl reminding me of the white doves used for promotion of the tour at that time. Great choice of backing track - well done!

Was recently trying to remember exactly when I had seen Simple Minds at Milton Keynes. Thanks to your vjd I can see it was 21/6/86 (I remember the Cult supported). Brilliant day, the memories lasted long after, as did the crippling sunburn!

Was there on the Sunday.. About 50 of us from Manchester, to the left of the stage. Remember Jim taking great delight in telling us England had been beaten by Argentina(Hand of God). An amazing line up The WaterBoys, Lloyd Cole & Big Audio Dynamite who were s**t hot...

I was there on the Sunday 22nd June 1986. What a day! We went down by coach from Liverpool. An absolutely amazing gig. Besides Simple Minds that day introduced me to The Waterboys who I've also been a fan of ever since. But Simple Minds just blew me away that day. Great memories.

I went down from Liverpool on the Saturday..we booked the coach and ticket at the travel agents in infront of the station..long gone now though..it was a brilliant day from start to finish 🎶👍

The blessing of 3 barrowland gigs 87 -91... Nelson Mandela Wembley 88 secc 89 ... Wembley stadium 89 ......magical performance....just lovely memories now.... hopefully catch them next year ...nice video❤

I had been at Gateshead, the week before, in 91. OMD, the Stranglers & Roachford were on before SM, it peed down, but calmed down, before they came on. Still got the sweatshirt from that gig, & cassette recording of the Milton Keynes gig, from the Radio 1 broadcast.

I think that is a great tribute to all the gigs at the Bowl , I was there the following week to see Marillion , best day ever, no worrying about bringing drinks in , food or anything. No one with a phone in front of my face and the crowd so happy....

I was there with my brother and best mate when it all erupted to Waterfront

I was there in 1986 too. What a day. Sunburned on one side of our faces, like a scene from Close Encounters of the Third Kind. Drove back several hours to get home - exhausted and elated. Unreal. Not sure how I didn't crash the car.

Me and my mate Johnny RIP traveled down by bud from Scotland as 15 year olds. Can’t remember if we went the Saturday or Sunday but I remember Jim Kerr coming on stage and announcing Maradona had just knocked England out of the World Cup.

Thank you very much for the memories we went on a mini bus from Bristol in 91, what a brilliant time we had I know the support bands were the strangers and when OMD came on I’m sure they blew the speakers and with Simple Minds came on we had a full moon over the MK Bowl what a time we had ❤❤❤❤

I seen the prodigy there in 2010 had my 11 year old son with us great memories seen SM 5 TIMES.

Went to both gigs. Went to the Sunday gig in 86. Memories of that were playing football a 100 aside before it all started in the middle of the bowl. Doctor and the medics drummer getting a bloody nose from a flying bottle, Lloyd Cole getting loads of abuse, Simple Minds being absolutely off the scale, Robin Clark having Happy Birthday sang to her and Jim Kerr being overly happy announcing Argentina had beaten England in the World Cup. The 91 gig was not quite as eventful with OMD having to go off stage for half and hour cos the electrix/generator blew, I’m sure whilst they were playing Electricity ⚡️ and Simple Minds being amazing again whilst being listened to around the world on Radio One. Great memories ❤

Absolutely brilliant that mate. Golden memories! Was that Mick on the keyboard 😉 Can you do Roundhay Park next 👍👌🏻🎶

My ex wife (While still in sixth form) went to the SM gig the day before her German aural exam (Got home at 5am)...She passed, fluent in German.

I'm amazed at how small this looks, the crowd in 1991 made a hell off a noise when i listened to it on Radio 1

It's actually bigger than you think,if you look at the cars on the road that can hold 4 to 5 people it gives you an idea of It's size..think it was 60k when I went in 86..the drone is 100mtrs high.

Saw Marillion in 1986 on a hot summer's day plus Bowie in 1990. I hadn't been back to this place since those days but visited last summer. I managed to get in through a gap in the gates and went and sat on the hill where I stood or sat all those years ago. It brought back a lot of memories when I was so much younger. I loved those days and the wonderful experiences they provided me with. Its a great place and is now more or less disused as a music venue sadly.

I can’t remember the Bangles but Cult and the water boys awesome and of course the Minds were on another level like a religious experience

I was there, remembering to queue up for a raffle ticket & then queue up again to collect your pint. This was due to the licensing laws. A few years earlier I saw Queen at MK Bowel

Great Memories Milton Keynes Bowl was a great venue for concerts back in the 80's & Early 90's as I Saw Michael Jackson's Bad tour in 1988' David Bowie Sound+Vision tour in 1990 & Gun's N Roses Use Your Illusions tour in 1993' A Great shame the Bowl doesn't hardly get used anymore for great shows nowadays ? 😢

Saw REM there with Blur as support. Stipe was really shy and nervous and as such did'nt tick many boxes as a leading front man. Obviously as they grew in stature he nailed it. I recall not thinking very much of the bowl as a venue - poor toilet facilities ( broken raw sewage left to flow for hours ) and true cattle like admission systems. Hey ho that's rock n roll I suppose but as you get older you do suspect profiteering rather than just the way things were.

I was there in 86... when Jim announced the 'hand of God' England/Argentina result...

Amazing footage, such incredible memories. What version of BOBT is things? :)
