This should go down in rock history as one of the most brutally perfect shows ever. Melvins continue to hone the diamond year in and year out and get better all the time. Tight, powerful, heavy, deep....what word DOESN'T describe this band? What metal act could possibly compare? Melvins rule.

LOL! I heard the name through the years maybe a few times and only just begun to listen to their songs just to try them out but when it comes to having meaning? Better damn well understand what it all stands for. Metal has no home except in metal-land. There are jockey's out there trying to mix it all in with classic rocks like Boomer Rock, including the circles of psychedelic American and British Invasion, classic folk, avant-garde, art classics, etc. etc. etc. There simply is no comparison and metal will always be drowned out. The truth is metal doesn't really fit in with among anything else as it tries to coattail it's way onto the true sustainable classics. It has no true message in the progressive realms and so it needs to stay within its own genre, along with its damn disco sucks motto. And it's hard to place this band into the grunge world when it has metal all over it. It's why the Melvins aren't a name that crosses the worldly paths, or if it does then it's only to a custom made crowd.

Thats what I love the most about this band, no reverence to any message, collaberation/line-up config., stupid label processes, nor can they be defined as any particular genre past rock/experimental. Only they and their ilk can figure it out, much less attempt. I'm happy to count myself amongst the 'custom' fanbase. And for those who are new to this, the only things this band is to be counted on are drums, sweet auditory chaos, and polished covers. A beautifully ugly child of punk and noise.

I have to be honest, I never really gave these guys any attention growing up. Now they are my favourite fucking band and man do they have a catalogue of deadly songs.
Saw them open for ministry last night. I was so bummed, i thought they were co-headliners. Melvins only played for an hour. I was standing there mouth agape. They LITERALLY blew my mind. Their energy, their synergy, their showmanship... definitely one of the best bands still out there touring. I'm praying I get to see them soon as headliners at their own show. I could have undoubtedly watched them perform for another four hours straight. I was standing in the second row. They completely blew Ministry out of the water. Al Jourgenson just looked silly up there at 65 prancing around like he's still 25. P.S. this is literally a dream setlist. If I saw Charmicarmicat live, nonetheless as an opener I think I'd fucking cry... Hag me, Roman Bird Dog, night goat... Jesus Christ I envy this audience greatly.

@@nicotinestains Melvins Live @ villette sonique 1149am 16.10.23 yeah, i saw melvins when it started out with the gluey porch album tour... so it's a nice full circle from sod all to sod all in one massive orbit of b.s - in reference to myself, i add... ministry? never saw it. never saw revolting cocks, either. which still irks me. but as you say, seeing a 65 year old guy wobble about as though in his 20's is kinnda piss poor. did they still have the old fence erected as a deterrent from fans gettin' too close to the action...? as for melvins being melvins. the band allus has been kindda reserved in the prancing about on stage act... as, i say, it serves a bands well... to be reserved and shoe gazey. as it kinnda works well as a stage presence when they're in their 60's. making noise is easy, then? i am going to go back after this and listen to gluey porch..... album. i still have it. so can it still rock as the first sludge rock album to surface prior to sub-pop's hegemony of the sound waves...?
Such a great show. Thank you for sharing. I was there and it was extraordinary. Dale Crover is a genius. One of the all time greatest drummers.

Epic! and love the cover songs.
What a great setlist!
I wish I had seen them with Jared...I love Jared, and I love KARP! But I am lucky to have seen an augmented double drummer set...I saw them for the short time that Pinkus played bass and Coady was still on drums. Bizarre, now that I think about it. The Melvins cover songs like no one else. They can take a cool song by another aritist and make it better. They can even take crappy original songs and make them amazing. It is clear why they have been going strong, infulencing countless bands for almost 40 years.

The cover played with Set Me Straight is a Cream cover, the song 'Deserted Cities of the Heart'. This is the same version they recorded on 'A Live History of Gluttony and Lust'. The outro is 'Spread Eagle Beagle', although they improv quite a bit so I don't know if it counts. And as someone else mentioned, they play 'Teet' before Copache.
