Such a well-written scene with Shirley Knight getting the best line of all: “everyone wants that dear, it doesn’t exist!”

Nope, when she touched her chest after Melvin said he had to see carol.
The mom is an absolute God send.
I love how the lightbulb went off in his head when he hears her say "boyfriend".
2:19 i love this lady lol "everybody wants that dear; it doesn't exist" the reality check 😂😂
A pivotal and touching moment is when he says "I forgot to lock the door". It lets you know that everything has changed.
5:50 she is like: cmon, continue with your cheesy lines. But then he backs his admission with examples that he really watched her, truly appreciates her as a human being. And the acting… how Helen becomes flabbergasted at first and then teary - this brings a tear to my eye too. I mean, there are many good people whose goodness is sometimes not observed or acknowledged by other people and they are left to live sad lives. Beautiful movie, a masterpiece. Fully deserved Oscars in the year when Titanic has swept almost all awards. I continue coming back to rewatch scenes from the movie or even the full movies when I feel so
Some of the best "OK's" in cinema history are uttered by this woman.
That movie is a masterpiece, all of it.. just about learning how to love and become somebody better... wonderful!!
It is a nice touch that the script kept having Melvin trying to come up with lines, he writes romance novels, that is his job! He tries applying these lines and half the time they backfire as soon as the calculating nature is revealed.
This scene! This movie, love every bit of it.

This film hits differently when you've been through life. I get his character and I was hers.
How I adore this movie!, Both actors are exceptional!,❤️
Masterfully acted by ALL even the dogs!!
I love that this movie gave Jack a chance to show his more romantic tender side.
I could watch this over and over! The actors, the script the scenery the music! I feel like I’m there! It just reminds me that no matter what we want, it’s worth it to go after it.❤

Like Groundhog Day. This movie should be played every Valentines Day.
An absolutely classic scene.
This is one of my favorite romantic comedies.
Jack Nicholson's declaration of his love to Helen Hunt was masterful !
She's dead serious sensitive and deep complex character that hates hypocrisy and he's simple easygoing but insensitive to people as he's full of himself, together they mellow each other out. Perfect match.
I wonder how many people get him standing on the crack in the sidewalk is beyond amazing for someone with ocd ....I think people want to see him walk without thinking the whole way...would have been utterly unbelievable ....that one moment? Was more than enough...actually EXACTLY enough
It’s hard for me to bear how beautiful this film is 🥹
I love carol’s mother. She put a hand to he heart when she sensed Melvin was profession his love
One of the most beautiful picture
I’m not a fan of rom coms. But this is the greatest movie ever. I’ve watched it so many times that I see inconsistencies. And yet I still love this movie! It’s complex, and perfect. There are so many facets and details and characters…. And so many fantastic lines to quote!
Yep, Helen Hunt still knocks me out. & probly always will. Helen Hunt, Madeline Stowe, & Allison Janney!!! Those are my Top 3.
Curious, from beginning to delightful end in this delightful scene....being a detail obsessed, amateur cinema critic(appreciater).... ....I felt a strong under surface vibe of Paris, the Marais.... Then after Melvin comes up the steps and is standing now heart to heart with the lovely Carol, on the wall beside them is a pastel print of the Eiffel tower. Perfect, by design? Sure... That made me laugh out loud. Then after that bell ringing bouquet of a compliment, and the best kiss I have ever seen in modern cinema, here I broke down in tears....and as they are walking in front of the bakery, the music here sounded totally Paris, early morning.... A well written, perfectly acted, directed, shot and edited scene. This is one of the countless reasons why I include cinema, filmmaking, storytelling, theater in my Chinese ChiGong energy healing private practice.......amen
Unfortunately it's very difficult. I tried so hard with my "melvin" . But, he was not as lovable over time. ☹️

beautiful scene
Most heartwarming is the fact that she accepted him the way that he is. Some freak with "illness" but a good person. We all have our own demons inside. But i like to think that there is some person who will accept me as i am, and our demons will dance together

They both won an Oscar for this . Good acting
The comedy timing is especially great here.
Watch it while i was a teen, absolutely love the movie, its so heard warming, she basically completes him. Making him whole.
This scene reminds me of what a die hard romantic I really arm.
Missing the last line when Melvin goes, “ahhh”.
Makes me cry
love the scene helen jack priceless.
I have to say, I have this relationship with my wife. She asked me to marry her and oh well. She accepts me for who I am with all the peculiarities that Autism adds as a spice to life. Yes, she is teaching me to kiss, between the laughs and humour.
Love this movie
Nicholson is awesome ❤
Helen Hunt is such an amazing actor. I have thought about this scene many times over the years. Having a partner who is just so awful in ways, but is handsome, brilliant and sees me like no one else is a dilemma. Sometimes I think, maybe this is as good as it gets. Sometimes I think that's it, I'm done and spend a lot of time mentally going through all that it would take to leave and what life would or could be like without him, or possibly with someone else, until I resign myself in exhaustion, or he redeems himself until the next time. I have a wise friend who once said that the most excellent people are often also the most difficult. The alternative is those people like most people - not that great but not that bad either. It's hard to know which version of life is more peaceful, or disappointing...
One of my favorite movies
Oh, how I love this movie!❤
I was obsessed with this movie when I was younger. Now I watch it and think "ugh...he's too old for her!"
I am surprised more people don't like this?

Jack Nicholson's line "i KNOW i can do better than that" never fails to make me smile.
Awesome scene, true
thankyou sharing.
¡Esta pelicula, la que mas veces he visto! Me encanta.❤❤❤❤
Lovely compliment, lovely
Perfectly cast! You would expect nothing less out of Jack Nicholson ... and far more than you'd expect from lesser-known (at the time) Helen Hunt.
Sacré Jack!
J'adore Le magnifique Jack Nicholson.
Helen Hunt is still a babe!
Kinda 1960s Paris with nice 60s paree music and freshly baked bread.
6:21 best dialogue. ❤❤

Yeah that's true. The humour is subtle. It's for mature people. It's not a regular rom-com. No character has a normal or good life overall and they try to deal with it and still keep space for real emotions. It's not easy appreciating this love story. The characters speak their harsh truths, overcome very discomforting experiences and still create a good life. This film makes you feel uneasy at times. I can't say if it's boring but unusual, yes it is.
would love to see watch this film on you tube please thankyou.
Director James L. Brooks should be whole lot more popular.

acting at it,s best on all involved.
On behalf of the men "why can't we just have a normal girlfriend" a someone that doesn't think your the world's worst because you don't want to go sock shopping with them on your day off. A woman that actually knows you don't care does my bum look big in this or do I look good in these high heels.
Anyone that was in a movie with him is in it.. all the ones we thought were good werent

This film without Jack Nicholson´s genius acting is worth nothing. Helen Hunt didn´t act well, and she was an annoying personality during the whole movie, specially the crying in the kitchen scene... it was bad. Jack deserves 2 oscars.
