So you're saying that the officials at Melton were negligent? The organisers regularly call events off for one reason or another, they use their judgement. I was watching the video thinking to myself how much better Aussie boat racing is then here in the states, how quick their boats are, and how many more boats they get for a show and this happens. SHIT. Looks like he just got it to loose and it took off on him. Very scary looking crash, hope he was OK. Sure had his boat flying. No pun intended. Wind didn't look that bad, water wasn't real rough. Australian runabout circle boats are much different then American boats but they really know how to make them fast. A few years ago they brought a gaggle of 6 litre boats to the states and man were they impressive.

😕 It's just a shame the cameras weren't here the day before, when I rowed a canoe around this course just 4 seconds slower than the times posted by ^these speed boats! I would've completed it 35 seconds faster, but my paddle broke halfway through lap 1, as a result of the extreme amount of force I was applying to it. So I had to complete the race while rowing with just the handle of the paddle, which really reduced my speed.... 😉

Yep, thought the same, like they need the equivalent of massive caution flashing light poles mounted on the course buoys to alert of an accident/incident(man down/boat down). @loganstewart9661

When your going 130+ mph it would be fairly hard to see what had happened when your trying to control your own boat?, the course had 3 buoys one at each end and one in the middle which has a red flashing beacon on each buoy which is activated when they have been notified that there is an incident on the course, a lot if not all the drivers in these boats have a radio which has someone on the other end back at the pits, I was standing near the pits when this happened and it happened that quick that a lot of people on shore didn’t know what had happened until the boat was pretty much sinking. The rescue boats and divers on the course also happen to have radios to each other and the spot where the boat smashed was right in front of one of the divers and the boat they were in. So the time it takes them to radio it in and the time it takes the teams to radio to the drivers in the other boats plus for the drivers to see the red flags and the red beacons activated was what you have just watched, to slow a boat that is doing 130+ and to have all of that information passed on to you is actually a really quick response time by all drivers on the course. Yes it was close from the other boats the other red boat Xplicit would have been just coming out of the first corner by the time the incident happened and the blue boat workhorse would have been mid corner coming around. The main thing here is that the driver and all other drivers were okay and the incident was handled more than professionally.

Unfortunately, on these "runaboat" boats transmissions with inclined shafts are still used, which generate a thrust component that raises the bow and at those speeds, a tidal wave or headwind is enough to capsize. On the other hand, if propellers faired inside the keel were used, the "TOW" would develop in a single direction, without bow lifting components (as occurs in fighter aircraft).

@@HighlanderNorth1 Oh man you had me goin' there for a minute. But then you said the paddle broke and it slowed you down. Everybody knows that you can turn the paddle over and use the handle. C'mon man! who are you tryin' to kid here? LOL
Scary how fast that boat slipped below.
That safety crew really needs to get a raft to drag behind their jet ski, like the lifeguards have for big wave surfing events. just pull him up on the raft and get him straight to shore.
Odd that rescue boat driver put on flippers and abandoned the boat when there was already a person in the water with the driver and the driver was OK.

Yep, thought the same, like they need the equivalent of massive caution flashing light poles mounted on the course buoys to alert of an accident/incident(man down/boat down). It seems primitive that in 2023 that Drag boat racing doesn’t have to comply with similar safety standards that Drag car, Sprint car racing has to! Seriously- wtf???

Them things are crazy !!!
There will be a feature of this race crash on channel nines tv show Emergency.will keep everyone posted of air date.

Do they not have Radio headsets for these guys? If not they should, sure would help a driver bobbing in the water to not get run over.
I played it real slow to see if it was what I thought it was - He caught air yeah, but he crossed a wake coming from port and went through a trough along with the wind, his keel fins catch air, prop walks it sideways and he's helpless. Hull absorbed a lot of energy for sure. I have issues with the following boats, I'm not sure they should be on the grid without some education Adjustment.

is mistake by the captain
Boats driving passed the crash scene at those speed not knowing where the driver is should not be allowed to race anymore. That was absolutely ridiculous
Safety Crew needs a lot more training
Sucks for the leader
Rescue team looked a bit shabby.
Hard to imagine that the other racers just kept speeding by with no concern for his safety
And noone stopped or slowed down to. Make sure they avoided him... Clearly he was hated...
No excuse for the blue boat to buzz by the wreckage and right over parts of the boat floating next to it. Could have killed the driver in the water.
