Melting down copper in my copper melting furnace
In todays video I will be melting scrap copper in my propane melting furnace. This is the easiest way to melt copper. Prior to melting copper I made some greensand molds to pour the molten copper into.

    My theory about the ingots reaction is you mat have added some copper that was alloyed with Beryllium. I'm pretty sure asbestos will do the same thing but those copper pipes wouldn't cantain either. Nice pours!

    Hmmm, I think it was because of the moisture in my greensand. I think I over poured the copper too. I didn't want to stop because it looked so cool. 😂😂. I don't know.. I don't think I had any beryllium in the mix.

    @@HeinrichsMade you're probably right. I was recently reading on the many alloys used in copper products and like asbestos beryllium has a higher than copper melting point. There are other alloys that take a lot of heat as well but I know little to nothing about greensand

    Not sure why the metal did that! But they came out pretty badass. I remember sometimes you would leave these items randomly on hiking trails wouldn't you? I thought i saw that in a video a long time ago. Wife and I get into mythical creatures. One of my wifes friends runs like a shop in Omaha were they sell ghost stuff, bigfoot and they hold tours and classroom talk about Jersey Devil, Bigfoot, chupacabra,witches, zombies, paranormal stuff, etc... super fun and different kinda store. Enjoyed.

    Yeah it was pretty scary seeing the center rise and then it pushed out liquid copper. I'm thinking it was because of the moisture in the sand. Yes, I drop bigfoot prints and jersey devil bars when I go on hikes. I will be doing that starting soon. I was just waiting for the good weather. That's really cool to hear about tours about New Jersey Devil and stuff. I hope they are doing well in this recession....

    Thanks! Yeah I think it was the moisture in the sand. Plus I over filled it. Last time I did this, I had no problem.

    I love copper and brass, just wish I could get it to cast as nice as my aluminum, maybe I need to get it hotter.

    Copper doesn't sand cast great, but does cast. Brass casts much better. What problems are you having? Definitely get an infrared thermometer to check the temp. You might be getting it hot enough.

    wait, those copper pipe are from radiator, where the alum fins are taking off. You will have some alum contamination.

  • @HeinrichsMade

    @HeinrichsMade

    4 ай бұрын

    I don't think it would be contaminated with aluminum. The aluminum tins are not connected to the copper in any way. They are just slid over the pipe with very small tolerance. I just finished another video and will be posting it soon on removing the fins. I said radiator, but it was actually an evaporator coil.

    @@maktheturd6220you use what you have, by the time he remelts the ingots the aluminum content will be negligible, he isn't casting for industrial parts, so it really doesn't matter.
