HOW TO MIRROR FINISH A BAR
I start with an 80 grit flap disc on my angle grinder then I use my drill with 50 mm round sanding discs . I start with 150 grit then go through the following Grits 240-400-800 Then once I get to the following Grits I use a small squirt of WD-40 1200-1500-2000-2500-3000. The WD40 helps to lubricate the discs and stops the sanding disk binding up with the metal powder . Then after that I use my buffer wheel on my bench grinder to get a perfect mirrored finish on it??????.
****************************************************
STEEL FOR MY FRIEND
I keep all my steel and cast iron pieces and I give them to my friend and once he gets about a tonne from me and his own collecting he takes that to the scrapyard and sells it then he buys some beer and comes over to my house and we make a night of it.
No My friend doesn’t have a KZread channel he just scraps metal in his spare time.

He is singlehandedly saving the environment. Why toss out used cans when you can melt them and turn them into something more valuable? Why leave junk in a dumpster when you can melt them down and also turn them into something more valuable? On top of this, he throws away dirt and puts recyclable things like plastic into the actual recycling bin. And he sends steel to his friend. Just an absolute king.

Has anyone considered the fact that (here in Canada, anyway) those cans get you 10 cents each when taken to a bottle depot... 204 x $0.10 = $20.40 CDN That's 3-fold what the value claimed in raw metal is worth. Especially after all that hard work, BigStackD, coulda got yourself another case !

Haha, Ingot belly-scratches himself on the rug the exact same way my Westie, Scarlett does! Nice and simple big goddamn block of aluminum pour, nothing wrong with that. LOTS of dross from all the paint on those cans, but was to be expected. Would a little borax have helped to pull out any further impurities? I guess not really since your subsequent pour from the failed first bar didn't seem to have much junk if any. Grats to the winners! I guess ima have to break down and buy that small forge (I go through a LOT of cans in a week) if I want to have me a nice mixed-metal coin/have any more fun with my cans then just leaving them out for the garbage-can scroungers on garbage day. One spark landed 12 feet away in a whole case of cad weld shot containing gunpowder and set it all off making a big hole in the floor. I guess I had somebody watching over me that day. I got by without a single burn.

It was fun, I may get a real setup for other metals because of that. I’d refer others to go that route first(good setup for other metals) though, a lot safer.

Nice work. This might sound mental but have you tried hitting the local hairdressers up for their used tinfoil? Hear me out. Watched a vid on here where some guy collected over a ton of aluminium from 4 hairdressers in a year. Chicks get foils apparently which is some hair thing that uses a shitload of tinfoil. Might be an untapped source of raw material.

As a former hairdresser I don’t recommend burning bleach and hair color (which is what the foil is used for). Honestly if someone’s gonna collect all the foils they should wash every piece. BUT it would be a nice chunk of aluminum. We use quite a lot of foil for a single whole head bleach. And then eve more if they’re doing multiple colors or some sort of color blending.
