Melody Sauce 2 VST AI Takes Control of Your Music Theory!

Музыка

Melody Sauce 2 is a narrow Artificial Intelligence VST/AU plugin that create melodies & chords based on predefined functions (not presets or saved MIDI files). It works on both Windows & MacOSX (in all DAWs). I tested it out in FL Studio, Ableton Live, & AKAI's MPC software. The newest features include genre styles, a sound engine, harmonize, and chord adjustment just to name a few. This plugin has the ability to take any rookie musician (and expert) and enhance the work flow in seconds! I personally enjoy this plugin & think it gives music producers of all kinds a clear advantage. Not to mention saves you time! Which is our most valuable resource.

Ok, I upgraded a couple of hours ago and already made a pretty good beat with it. You were right, this definitely isn't snake oil. Of course, as with nearly all of these melody/chord generators, you're probably gonna want or need to do some tweaking to mold the melody/chord progression into something that sounds really good, but I have to admit, to get the result I got in the first use, in literally less than 30 minutes is REALLY impressive.

The GUI look like a software version of Pioneer’s Toraiz. They need to throw in a editor section to expand on the Germs & Motiffs generated. In Melody Sauce v.3’s Melody Editor we will be able to add the following variation techniques to the generated melody for extra “sauciness”. 😜 1. Caesura 2. Inversion 3. Retrograde 4. Retrograde Inversion 5. All the other 23 or so variation possibilities A notion view of the notes in their Rhythm representation in the editor would be dope too.

I feel like the fear of AI *dominating* or *Saturating* music is only a fear for those who don’t have any I ate drive to create and share. In any industry, there are people who only seek the money, clout, or whatever. That ONLY matters if that’s why YOU are in it. even with the AI, it can ONLY create what YOU dictate. YOU add it to your project. YOU add it to the beat. YOU put the loops or sounds that make it sound good. YOU mix it, or pay for the mix. YOU ARE, AND WILL ALWAYS BE, THE X FACTOR. Don’t worry about the fake temporary easy stuff. If it helps you make what YOU want to hear, THATS ALL THAT MATTERS

By all means, if you observe the 1%. They're not necessarily the "smartest" . However, they're using AI driven data (or tools) to get the best outcome possible. Let's say using AI is cheating. Point granted! The next question would be "why aren't you using it?". If morals & ethics is the answer. Welp, that's fine and all but that don't take away from you as much as time itself. Data is used for a reason.

None of this stuff will arrange a good song. Just create good loops. Music flows like water cause everything is waves. People who don't understand how to make music flow won't be able to arrange a great track even with AI. Trust me what's going to happen is you'll hear music and immediately know a AI machine made it. I'm not convinced that you can teach a machine how and why and when to functional harmony through feelings and emotions. You know the very thing that makes music move YOU. Is the emotion. There will be flaws for quite awhile.

This software and others like it are the reason why music from most artist within hip-hop sound the same. When one uses it to make a song's melody or chord progressions, and that song becomes a hit, everyone runs out and gets it and uses it. It may be AI and the chords are supposed to be random. But technically they're not really random. There's a chance algorithm that generates a pattern based on the parameters you put into the system, but that system still has to follow some base-line method of making those patterns. When you have everyone using these chord, beat, melody generators, the generators generate their creations based on that algorithm and ends up making everyone that uses them sound similar. The program can't create a style. It may generate randomly but all based on a specific style programmed into the software. At the risk of sounding like I'm rigid or a purist ( I was called once), but this isn't music from a person. In other words it's the programs creation and not the creation of the person. Sure you put in parameters but it's not done by you. In my opinion it's destroying the uniqueness that used to be a part of the musical creative process. When you hear a Babyface song, there's a certain style that he creates with. Anyone who is a student of music will tell you this. When you listen to a Timbaland creation. You know it's him. There's a certain style that is uniquely his. These things are destroying music

It’s more than just this. It’s also stuff like “The MIDI Pack”, with the kid bragging about not knowing a damn thing about music theory. Well why not learn it then? It’s not that hard and grounds you into thinking musically. It doesn’t mean laboriously reading sheet music either, just understanding how your instrument relates to music that sounds pleasing. Hundreds of people buy that stuff and everything all sounds the same because of it. Same goes for those NI construction kits. Day one after release, barely changed versions of the sample tracks show up all over the beat sites. It’s a total joke.

@@ckatheman So many great songwriters don't know music theory even. And that guy defintely isn't one of them lol. That's what annoys me about those ads, if he can't write a decent melody because he 'doesn't know music theory' then he should seriously quit. No chord pack will give you a natural ear for it.

I hate AI with respects to its entanglements in art and here's why.... when it's all said and done, the robot will finally generate that Meek Mill type beat I've always been cooking up with the press of just one button. And when it does, is it wrong to claim it as my beat? Or my sculpture? Or my painting? This passion is a journey. There are some who are blessed with talent and millions who dedicate their time to practice and learn something fulfilling. Thanks for allowing me to rant profusely and incoherently. Happy Friday yall!

I've been playing guitar on and off for about 18 years on and off now. I never learned music theory, and couldn't pay attention or focus on that type of learning and believe me, I tried for years. I can jam with pretty much anything I listen to on guitar though, mostly from patterns and muscle memory I've learned throughout the years. I don't see AI as anything harmful. I see it like Ave sees it. A tool to make people who have some kind of skill already and amplify it, as long as they still add some creativity to it. I also see it no different than taking a sample, manipulating it, flipping it and using it creatively. I guess you have to have enough skill to also take some creative liberties and mess with the MIDI it outputs. If you just use it raw as is, and stack a bunch of melodies and chords, then eventually it'll sound like garbage and obviously computer generated. Messing with the timing manually in the MIDI file it outputs, removing notes, shortening and lengthening notes, that's how I would use it. There are certain fundamentals that western music has that "sound good" to our ears. Certain chord progressions, structure of a song (Intro, verse, chorus, verse, chorus, bridge, chorus.) Making something that can have all of that data and output something with it is just the next step in helping people reach stuff they wouldn't have been able to otherwise. It's not for everyone though, just like some people prefer all analog, vs digital or vst recreations of certain hardware or instruments. Also one more thing, yeah I don't think I would give this to someone who knows nothing about music. Think about Kanye, he's a great producer can help build people up, and a lot of the times, people on some tracks outshine him on his own albums, bc he's more of a music curator, he sees the talent and makes the decisions to push things further or tone things down musically. As long as someone has at least that, I think that's a great way to use a tool like this. Knowing when to use it, and when to intervene and take over. Thanks for coming to my impromptu TED talk lol.

@@AveMcree That's only if they isolate its use as a tool and not a creative device. There's really no other way to use something like this as anything BUT a creative device. Setting parameters is like programming a specific sound into a synth. but at the end of the day you can make the best sound ever. If someone with musical creative talent doesn't play it with a style and chords that works well with that sound, it's useless.

  • @johnsuggs3952

@@HeyChicano I can see using it to teach you music theory. But learning music theory doesn't necessarily mean making good music. Which I get is opinion based. Like I've played and recorded music for more than 30 years. Never learned how to read and write music well or the chords I was playing. I just played by humming the individual notes to my self and then finding them on the keyboard and build chords from there. The instrument in that scenario is a tool and not the source of my creation. I could do it without the instrument if I had to. What's going to happen is tools like this are going to become so relied upon to make music, that without them, artist won't be able to make anything. Back in the 80-90s we could make a beat from banking on the lunchroom table and spitting words.

I appreciate what Yakov and his team are doing over there but, the Captain plugins are rarely used or talked about and you never see any content creators using it. Capt. Bass and Capt. Melody are so backwards in design that it makes it hard to even want to open them in all honesty. This Melody plugin seems more adept at creating something on the fly that can be quickly manipulated to complete a idea without all of the nonsensical user interface clicks and steps. Lastly, the Captain suite is not Artificial Intelligence and certainly not at this level of usability on the fly.

9:53 Yes.. Indeed it is. These plugin devs gotta chill with the "AI" wave. Yes, this plugin was creating a very basic arp based on the chords being played, but, it's barely any better than scale locking in FL then letting my 11 y/o nephew hit random keys. Not gonna lie, I've been looking for a plugin that helps with creativity similar to Scaler or my favorite right now Chord Potion. But now that anyone can develop a VST plugin it's gotten out of hand. I remember when a new plugin would come out every 6 months or so being like "Niiice let's see what this thing can do!" But now there's a new plugin by a new dev popping up every other week claiming their plugin "Stands Alone" and now I'm conditioned to instantly know they're fkn lying. 😂 Sorry for the rant. You're my go to KZreadr who I know is gonna be honest about a product. 🤜🏻🤛🏾

Select key. Speed is merely how quick notes are played, loop is self explanatory, octave determines position left or right of C4, light or dark determines major or minor scale. Simple, or complex is simple quarter notes or more complex combinations within a bar. It’s really not AI it’s a set of formulas based upon rules as one would have in a computer chess game. Learn basic music theory and explore the notes yourself within a scale to create a melody.

Not sure how much AI there is in this thing, it behaves just like a two way (pitch/timing) quantized random number generator. I bought it a few days ago and there's little to no musicality to the output unless you hit it by chance by creating bucketloads of melodies and finally finding one which has merit. For the same price you can get Scaler 2 if you want things automated or Stepic if you prefer to steer your own boat. Both are significantly more capable.

but what happens when you don't have those tools or you have to go in and tweak a beat your self. Programs like this, whether you realize it or not, can start to make artist complacent and lazy. Where they don't learn chord building and progression themselves. They let the machine handle it for them. My main issue with this is how you're supposed to brand yourself as a producer when robots do 90% of the work. Like let's take an athlete, it takes a lot of work and skill to run a 4 minute mile, but if you take an unfit guy or someone even running a 5 minute mile and slap em on top of a robot dog and race the centaur and the skilled athlete, it's not even comparable. And you're not going to see the unfit guy on the robot in a Nike ad, and if they break a world record, no one is going to take it seriously. From the perspective of building the best brand, there's not going to be much room up there at the top for people crutching on AI generated content. I'm not going to use it, I'm not going to listen to it. I don't think most people will, especially if AI starts making whole songs brought to you by Spotify and -man playing a character- I mean an Artist.
