The thing that I like is that the show takes relevant issues and addresses it on the show. White male privilege is (and will always be) at the forefront of issues people don't like to talk about. Fitz's character fits that description to a tee. I just wished he could have apologised to Mellie for the psychological and verbal abuse she had to go through being regarded as his trophy wife, raising his kids and not getting enough support AFTER he found out the reason she wasn't intimate with him was because she was raped by his father. Mellie had to dumb herself down for *A BOY* from the 'Lucky Sperm Club" (Hollis Doyle's words), who is very insecure even though she graduated law at the top of her class. More power to her!!

I remember when Fitz told Mellie she is ornamental not functional. That pissed me off. It's one of the many reasons I am not a Fitz fan. Mellie for all her bitch ways owns up to it. Fitz just act clueless and behave like everything is because of how great he is. When he is just mediocre at best. I don't care about none of them. They both got where they were because of Olivia. No matter the scandal or how compromised she was she was always strong, bold, smart. I wanna see her take power and keep it.

While I enjoyed Mellie telling Fitz off, she didn’t get to where she is on her own. She used his political connections and experience to get on the fast track to the presidency. Fitz served his country in the Navy and served as governor of California for several years before he was elected. Mellie was in the senate for less than a year when she ran for president.

I love this scene because it is a man who benefitted from the many being put in his place. She is right he gave presidential responsibilities away whenever possible. Yes Mellie is a white woman but this was her moment to put fitz in his place. This was her moment to show him that for the first time his role is to be ornamental. And it's her moment to channel Olivia pope by revealing to fitz the difference between being good at a job and earning something. Bravo indeed

One thing I didn't like about Mellie is how much she oversold herself. Yes, she is accomplished, but she makes it seem like she honestly got here by herself. If Fitz had the help of his father, Cyrus, and Olivia to become president, then so did Mellie. She benefited from his success as well, even if it's not to the same degree.

Siera Alexander that maybe true to a certain degree but yes she is still being delusional in the fact that she thinks that everything is his fault and that she did this all on her own without him or anyone else's help . People recognize her because of him . What has mellie done on her own that makes her worthy of being the president ? She has had fitz and missy and opa and abby and Susan helping her this entire run for presidency . If it wasn't for them she wouldn't have made it at all . All this time that they have been in the white house instead of spending her time building up her career and helping people without an agenda of her own she has spent lots of time scheming behind fitz's back and lying and being manipulative and insulting missy every chance that she got and pimping fitz out to missy whenever it suited her or whenever she had problems with fitz or if he couldn't sleep . Fitz was right when he told her that all she's good for is waving and smiling . Because she doesn't have the work expertise to go with being the president .

Second election he was leading until olivias mom blew up the church where Sally was. Because of that everyone expected public will go for Sally . But it didn’t because his son died and people voted for him inspite of Olivias mom,s plan. For Mellie - Yes she lost popular vote without any interference - fair and square. Electoral college votes were bought for her and she did nothing even after being so well aware that it was rigged.
