@@Verminreaper999 Julie Bowen actually won in the category for Supporting Actress in a Comedy that year! Fun trivia: the Modern Family cast all submitted themselves in the supporting actor/actress categories because they felt as an ensemble cast, there were no clear lead actors/actresses. The Friends cast also used that method for the majority of the show’s run until the last few seasons where they all started submitting themselves in the lead actor/actress categories.

Brilliant! And they say women can't do comedy. Of course, they've said they couldn't do all kinds of things. As it turns out, they can do anything as well, if not better, than the less subtle sex. Bravo.
Made me laugh and cry. I love seeing women support each other instead of tearing each other down. And Melissa is everything. 💜

lmao this legit made me cry, love female support and solidarity
Imagine being Melissa in your breakthrough TV role and watch these ladies getting happy for you. Martha was Really funny, then you have Tina and Amy Who were legendary on their shows and if that was not enough, finally you have Edie and Laura, both accomplished drama actresses, with a pack of Emmys, Oscar nominations and Tonys on their behalf. Such a great and iconic moment, Back from where we actually watched TV and not streamed.

I will never tire of watching this. Absolutely hilarious, but also so uplifting. I was doing a little research and I think Melissa was the only one in that group who had never won any TV/film/theater awards prior to this Emmy. That makes this even cooler!

The Friends cast also used that method for the majority of the show’s run until the last few seasons where they all started submitting themselves in the lead actor/actress categories.

the best moment on emmy ever
I believe it was Amy Poehler who came up with the idea as a way to combat a surge in false tabloid stories claiming that women in the industry were fueding and arguing in a warped atttempt to pit them against one another and cause drama. This was her way of showing solidarity and support among women in the industry whilst making a brilliantly executed joke at the same time.

What is so wonderful about this is, everyone knows the usual routine is you stay in your seats & hide your disappointment with a grin. This way, they were all recognised & loved by their fellow actors, the crowd 'got it' and supported it whole heartedly, & when Melissa's name was called, the other ladies smiles were authentic, they were all in on it & no one was left in the audience, with a camera in their embarrassed face
I laughed and thought it was wonderful that they all went up on stage and supported each other.

Geez, can't believe this was more than ten years ago.. Melissa, surprised as she was, really deserved the award that year... 🥰
I met Melissa McCarthy in Australia, in Byron Bay, NSW a couple of years ago. I forgot my wallet (it was on the seat of my car in the car park) and she paid for my lunch I had just eaten with my great uncle. The bill amounted to $50. She gave me $50, paid $50 to the cashier and put a $50 note in the tip jar. Generous lady.
todavia recuerdo este momento como si fuese ayer, uno de mis momentos favoritos de los EMMY en toda la historia
