Real metalheads probably wouldn't like this. It's an extremely unusual type of voice for a metal. Metalheads despise carrying elements of other genres into metal, and Melanie's vocals would be this despised element in this case. Such music simply would not have an audience.

​@@tibsi6247 Yes, with hard rock \ alt rock it can easily work. There's plenty of fantastic rock bands with female vocals, with huge audiences. But it has nothing to do with metal. Being a metal band means being a part of metal subculture, and this subculture has the most obnoxious gatekeeping imaginable. You might think that there's almost no difference between metal and hard rock, and I agree. But real metalheads do not. If you wanna know more, search "why metalheads hate nu-metal", preferably in r/metal subreddit, and NOT in r/numetal. It will also shed light on why symphonic metal with Mel probably will not work, as any other subgenre of metal.

Every time I try to do something with major I very quickly end up in ether minor (aeolian mode if you music theory person) or dorian, and if there's unchangeable melody that enforces major, it clashes HARD with my internal thinking. The only exception are songs that have a somewhat vague key, like runaway and running with the wolves. For such songs my ears default me to minor instantly, so I can deal with them. Running with the wolves, for example, is vi-I-iii-V in F major, but I hear it as i-III-v-VII in D minor (D aeolian if you music theory person). TLDR: Blame my non existent skill.

It's funny that I didn't even notice that "death" back vocal line lol =) But I have to disappoint you. The chorus is the hardest section to convert into the metal. It starts with a major seventh chord - it's a type of chord that has the most mellow, calming and soft sound possible. @@nobody3068 Don't worry. 9 times out of 10 I too don't hear any problems until I start to actually work on a cover xD This is why I never promise to cover anything, because I don't know if I'm able to until I try.

@@hawwaiianpizza Void is impossible to cover for me. I don't do covers of songs in major keys, because I do not have skills to do so nor desire to build such skills. I will check Grimes later, thank you for suggestion. Views doesn't matter. I cover songs I like and can cover. That's the only two criteria. I do enjoy covering Melanie songs. I like her style, like her voice, like her lyrics. The only problem is that her songs are more complex than usual radio stuff and take more time and effort to cover, but it's totally my fault.

​@NaySan you should totally do Pluto whenever you can , or evil if you haven't already. Since melanie is kinda more yelling the lyrics in Evil than singing them I feel like it would be better. And since Pluto already has that like.. rock-like end sort of it would sound good

Void is in a major key, so I'm not able to cover it. Death is might be doable. By it's sound, it probably will be brutally hard to rearrange into metal. I will try. Either way spider web and pluto are first in line, so don't expect a cover of death in the foreseeable future.

Well, Melanie songs are hard to label. They're unique, and to carry that uniqueness into another genre, said genre boundaries need to be expanded. On top of that, I yet to see a clear metal genre definition other than "I don't like it thus it's not metal". Closest I was able to find is that metal music is fast, loud, dark and aggressive. Then there's power metal that's fast and loud, but rarely dark and not exactly aggressive. And then there's bands like Otep and Slipknot, that fast, loud, dark and aggressive, but not considered to be metal because it's nu-metal. At this point I simply do not understand how to label my music.

@@alexismariaotero Your comment doesn't come to me as rude, don't worry. But I genuinely cannot find a proper definition of heavy metal. Last time I tried, I went into a gigantic rabbit hole and came out clueless because of the amount of contradictions. Since then I primarily use my gut feeling, which not always right. Especially with the covers that use keys and bpms that no sane human would ever use for a metal song.

Spotify has actually been a great help in requesting new songs based on ones i like and i feel like "metal" and subgenres for it world have a good definition there. metal isn't even one of my main tags in my likes though, lol. it's spooky, angst, dark, sad, orchestral, chill, angry, gentle, love, and moody. 🤣 looked up "metal" artists on spotify and got the usuals. metallica, iron maiden, brother's of metal, metal mother, metalhawk, and every variation of groups that just named themselves "metal". but i also saw the had a lot of subgenres of metal that would probably have something for everyone. edit: one hundo percent not sponsored by spotify, they don't pay me shit. in fact, i pay them. 😐

@@alexismariaotero I also prefer to consume music by its feel and not a genre. If I want to listen dark aggressive music, I do not care whether is metal or not. My stuff primarily influenced by traditional heavy metal (Iron Maiden, Judas Priest, Accept), German power metal (Rage, Helloween), and japan power\prog metal (Demetori, Haruki Yamada, SSH). All of those genres, bands and performers have nothing in common with modern extreme metal. From wiki: "Extreme metal acts set themselves apart from traditional heavy metal acts, such as Iron Maiden, Judas Priest and Motörhead, by incorporating more abrasive musical characteristics such as higher tempos, increased aggression and a harsher extremity."
