Several months ago, a book came across my desk with a title that I just couldn’t ignore. It’s called, Fast Food Ingredients Revealed - What ARE You Eating?
We know fast food is, for the most part, crap. But, what I didn’t realize is just how bad some of it really is… we’re talking preservatives, coloring agents, additives, and sweeteners made with actual chemical warfare agents, just to name a few of the things that should scare all of us right out of the drive-thru line.
Not surprisingly, the food industry doesn’t want us to know what’s really in that box of fried chicken or that juicy burger (because it goes well beyond inhumanely raised animals), but luckily author Mel Weinstein does know what’s in this food because he spent decades studying it as a food chemist.
Mel worked as an analytical chemist for over 20 years in a research center for a multinational food ingredients company and studied food science at the graduate level. He also taught chemistry at the college level for 10 years, so it has been his passion for decades to study industrial foods and explore the purpose of additives and their impact on health.
Well, it’s no surprise that the long-term impacts are not good, so it’s his hope to educate people on what’s really inside that food so that you can make more informed choices on what you put in your body.

Thank you Rip. Excellent interview. Great questions. I especially liked the excerpt you read from his book at the end… We have to ask ourselves how did we allow ourselves to get here?

Perhaps the three forms of pea and soy protein are flour/powder, protein concentrate, and protein isolate.

There’s just no excuse for eating processed things. I was approached by a small group of girls in the Walmart parking lot selling some hyper-calorically-dense, hyper-palatable form of corn - popped and dropped in who knows what. I came out of Walmart and enjoyed the hell out of a couple fresh ears of raw corn. Too easy. This little 10oz container of fresh watermelon isn’t a bad move, either, for the ride home. Got some cumin and spices for my beans n rice tonight and some tiny white potatoes already done for when I get there. InstaBrands filed for Chapter 13. So load up on your InstaPots and Pyrex bowls while you can - might not be able to find them in a year or two. Too easy. No excuses. We’ll all be held accountable to what we did yesterday in the future. This world will serve you up all the suffering you want 👊🏼
