Mel Gibson's Passion - Primetime Live interview with Diane Sawyer - 2004

Diane Sawyer interviews Mel Gibson about The Passion of the Christ in 2004. Sawyer's husband was Mike Nichols, the overrated Jewish director who made lots of crap movies. I'm sure this Jewish family link colored her coverage big time. The media is controlled by people who are obscenely pro-Jewish, and they hire accordingly. The dingbat Sawyer squints in bewilderment at Gibson explaining basic Christian teaching. Lightweight "interfaith scholars" like Dr. Amy-Jill Levine (Jewish), pro-Israel Dr. Darrell Bock, and Nostra Aetate enthusiast Dr. Phillip Cunningham lie about Christian teaching on the Jews, claiming that the curse on the Jews no longer exists. This is a lie. A Jew is cursed so long as he remains a Jew. To remove the curse necessitates sincere conversion to Christianity. The former priest John Dominic Crossan whines about the extreme brutality of the movie. And the criminal Abraham Foxman appears to spread his usual BS, as if he has any moral authority. Not one real Christian was called upon to testify to the biblical accuracy of Gibson's movie. Even with a stacked deck against him, and the inanity of Diane Sawyer, Gibson does quite well. The Passion of the Christ was not a controversial movie. "Controversial" suggests that people are divided about something roughly 50/50. Only a small percentage of people were bothered by the movie. But this small group is the de facto ruling elite and they detest authentic Christianity, for they know that it represents a counter-establishment that has the potential to unseat them.

Yes, it is a masterclass - a masterclass in moral and intellectual dishonesty. It's just a sneaky evasion, and not even a clever one. I remember watching this movie as atheist. There was something disturbing in my soul watching that film, as if I was one of the people who were responsible for Jesus's death. @@bobgoran To believe all of what you see came from happen stance, all from random variables is a greater absurdity than to accept that there is a creator, I was agnostic for the past 12 years and thus I have never called myself atheist because I've always been aware of the absurdity of doing so. If you are as reasonable as you claim, simply delve into quantum mechanics, and compare what you learn there to how computers work, our universe is built in a binary code just like you see in computational devices, every particle exists in fluctuation between 0 and 1. The realm that you see right now I tell you with certainty is not fundamental reality, as someone who has spent a greater percentage of my life than almost anybody learning with an unquenchable thirst for scientific truths on quantum physics and the nature of our reality. If you really do delve into this, and have a mind capable of understanding, I assure you you will not remain atheist. It took me just a few months after realizing God definitely exists for me to be awoken to the truth of our reality, which is that the God of Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob is the Almighty Creator and Jesus Christ is the Messiah and son of God, though the latter realization came from a miracle, and not from reason.

You have a rich history with a lot of good and bad, read the entire bible from cover to cover, genesis to revelations. I think you will be blessed in doing so and you will see a lot of what the catholic church is doing is good and some unbiblical. I am sure you can read and write, many people have died and been tortured to get us the holy scriptures, go and read my man, go and read. It speaks volumes that Mel appears to be on trial during these interviews for making a movie about an historical event. Nevertheless, the Christian ideal has not been tried and found wanting. It has been found difficult; and left untried.” (G.K. Chesterton). It feels like Mel is being pressured into making a mistake to undermine his credibility so the interviewer can stereotype Christians. However, Mel would be the first to admit he’s a flawed character as non of us are perfect. He’s just an entertainer and he’s only human but he’s also someones father and grandfather and it’s clear from his body language that he is being put under a lot of unfair stress for his beliefs. He’s in his 60s now and like a lot of the older generation he has cherished religious beliefs that bring him joy and help him make sense of reality. It must be very painful for his children and grandchildren to see him get treated this way. The fact is the Passion clearly caused tidal waves, hitting a raw nerve among vast groups of the population and has created a powerful emotional response of which Mel is on the receiving end. There is clearly something deeper and inexplicable about the Jew and historical character known as Yeshua (Jesus) including the fact of inexplicable concepts such as teleology, altruism and the ability of humans to empathise and feel another human beings pain. The horrific crucifixion of an innocent who said and did the things Jesus said and did demands on being attended to. “Pain insists on being attended to. God whispers to us in our pleasures, speaks in our conscience, but shouts in our pains: it is His megaphone to rouse a deaf world” (C.S. Lewis). J. R. Tolkien was a Christian and a close friend of C.S. Lewis and was part of the reason that Lewis, who was an atheist nearly half his life, converted to Christianity. Mel Gibson is an intelligent man and a successful writer and director so I’m sure he would have felt something similar to Tolkien or Lewis before releasing his movie the passion. “I am dreading the publication, for it will be impossible not to mind what is said. I have exposed my heart to be shot at.”(J.R. Tolkien before the publication of The Lord of the Rings). According to Tolkien “the Birth of Christ is the eucatastrophe of Man’s history. The Resurrection is the eucatastrophe of the story of the Incarnation”. It’s clear that the beliefs, flawed character and energetic personality of Mel Gibson is irrelevant as he did not write the Gospels and the fact is that both non religious and religious people were either stunned into silence or wept through this honest and poignant movie account of the murder of an innocent. Nevertheless, the whole “story begins and ends in joy. It has pre-eminently the ‘inner consistency of reality’. There is no tale ever told that men would rather find was true, and none which so many sceptical men have accepted as true on its own merits. For the Art of it has the supremely convincing tone of Primary Art, that is, of Creation (J.R. Tolkien). Interestingly, According to the brilliant physicist and pioneer of quantum mechanics Werner Heisenburg “The first gulp from the glass of natural sciences will turn you into an atheist, but at the bottom of the glass God is waiting for you”. When commenting on the abstract and paradoxical nature of quantum mechanics Heisenburg also stated that “By getting to smaller and smaller units, we do not come to fundamental or indivisible units. But we do come to a point where further division has no meaning”. C. S, Lewis personally experienced the horrors of war and carried around shrapnel in his body for years. Lewis explores the fundamental nature of reality in his discussion of objective morality in his prescient book (The Abolition of Man) and argues that “You cannot go on 'seeing through' things for ever. The whole point of seeing through something is to see something through it. It is good that the window should be transparent, because the street or garden beyond it is opaque. How if you saw through the garden too? It is no use trying to 'see through' first principles. If you see through everything, then everything is transparent. But a wholly transparent world is an invisible world. To 'see through' all things is the same as not to see” (C.S. Lewis). “If my duty to my parents is a superstition, then so is my duty to posterity. If justice is a superstition, then so is my duty to my country or my race. If the pursuit of scientific knowledge is a real value, then so is conjugal fidelity. The rebellion of new ideologies against the Tao is a rebellion of the branches against the tree: if the rebels could succeed they would find that they had destroyed themselves” (C.S.Lewis)

And born in September. All a Trick by the evil ones. Also do your homework on the Easter bunny rabbit. The Unicorn, the Butterfly and the Owl. See who uses them images. Not Christians. Black and Red are connected to Satan. Black is not a colour. Black is a medium, devoid of Light. Darkness. Death. The best colours are: Blue and Silver.

NO ONE and EVERYONE killed Jesus bc we are all sinners, and He CHOISE to die for the potential for ALL of us, but ultimately, for only those that chose him as their Savior and who lead lives to strive for and represent that. Anti-Semantism is just that. And there are people who are against and hateful of Jews. Lastly, the same applies to Christian's. anti Christianity does exist. Especially in Hollywood. My daughter and I came out of The Passion crying. We were weeping because we knew the prophecies from the Old Testament and knew that the crucifixion was prophesied in Psalms 22. The violence depicted in Gibson’s movie was something people needed nowadays. We don’t even slaughter our own meat. Our lives are so protected from any type of violence or bloodshed. When the Roman government ruled, death was a way of life. Not just for Christ, but for Christians after him. Any perceived enemy of the Roman government met his death. And that death was usually brutal. The Romans invented crucifixion as a means of the death penalty. These were people who were not loving and caring. They worshipped fallen angels and demons. Unholy gods.

I’m not deeply religious, but I do believe in god, I just don’t understand it, I don’t understand Jesus , I wish I did., maybe I will in time. As a contradiction I do feel I have a personal understanding with god , as someone once said , ‘I think me and god would be mates’ , that the way I feel.

“Read the gospels Diane.” That’s the message. The media loves to be this way, where they try to present their own persuasion of the story. It really struck me when she said that one of the main representatives of the group that has a problem with the movie, was “uninvited” to the showing but snuck in. God invites all of us to Him. This movie was not made for Christians. God‘s message was not made for those who already believe. Jesus died for every single one of us. And He also rose again for every single one of us. We just need to choose Him. We have to surrender and trust in God fully, and come to Him through the power of The Holy Spirit’s conviction, through Jesus, God’s Son.

Thank you Mel Gibson for bringing this movie to life. I cried the whole time and asked Jesus to forgive us, the entire humanity, for the atrocities we have committed as a people. I’m completely horrified and heartbroken after having watched it for the first time, always having avoided it because I knew it would be hard to watch. Always have known it, but the movie makes me want to pray more and carry the cross of life in a more graceful manner knowing the heavy price our Lord had to endure.

I'm an atheist and I still have enormous respect for Mel Gibson, for sticking to his vision and by his work. Cynical atheists might call it a snuff movie, and it's true that the film mostly comprises a man being brutalised and tortured to death. Even so, it's a very powerful and effective achievement, totally unflinching in its presentation. Of course it has potential to upset audiences, but it's then on those audiences to react authentically and to own their reaction, then to talk about it. That's what art is for.
