This man is almost 98. The mere fact he’s able to display such joy, sincerity and humor in his speech is a gift. Well deserved. 👏🏻 Now I’m gonna go watch Blazing Saddles 🔥

Mel Brooks is nearly 100 years old. There is no question he is one of the all great, actor, writer, producer, director and he conquered, tv, film and theatre. There will nobody else like him. He and carl reiners reputation is immense. And of course sid ceaser.

I had the honour and privilege to meet Mel Brooks in Trafalgar Square, London, in September 2017. I was on my way to the National Gallery with my date and noticed an elderly man seated next to the lawn, reading a book. I looked at him thinking: "that man looks like Mel Brooks..." Then he looked up at me and nodded with pride: "Yes!" So I rushed to him with open arms and we chatted. What a charming gentleman. It was a magic moment and I remember it with so much happiness.

To honor and give the artists the awards they deserve, while they are alive, is the best it can happen. Congratulations Mel Brooks. So deserved this award.
Mel Brooks is a treasure. It's good to be the king! 💜🖤
Still so sharp and funny even at 97 ! This is also so well deserved, been a fan of his ever since I could reach the tv to watch Spaceballs. 🥺
97...amazing. We should all be so lucky. What a life. Congrats to Mel, and thanks for all the incredible work.
God bless you, Mel Brooks. You have given the gift of laughter to so many.
5+ years ago i went to see a "talk" with mel brooks where he'd be interviewed by someone else. instead of an interview it basically turned into him doing over an hour of impromptu standup comedy. and of course it was hilarious. amazing to see him continue to be honored like this.
Mel Brooks is without a doubt one of great contributions of America to the world. Long may he roam.
Mel Brooks is the GOAT of all great comedy classics and he will always be in our hearts whatever he can make us laugh. Big congrats to Mel, well deserved. 👏
An Oscar for Mel Brooks is long overdue. The man is a living legend of comedy film producing some of the funniest movies ever. Congratulations Mel from a fan of your art for decades now. May the Schwartz be with you!

Just to reiterate for those sitting in the bleachers: THIS MAN IS 97 FREAKING YEARS OLD. Straight up national treasure.
Mel Brooks IS the funniest man alive. Three of his movies are listed among the top 15 funniest movies of all time. His 2000 year old man that he did with the Great Carl Reiner were just gold. He is a national treasure. God bless him!!

Mel Brooks is a genius. I mean, who else could've made a silent movie back in the seventies that everyone enjoyed? That was the first movie of his that I saw when it came out, Silent Movie (1976), with an all-star cast, many of them were A-listers at that time. Mr. Brooks certainly deserved this award.
Very deserving! God bless Mel Brooks!
Mel is 97 and still has impeccable comedic timing
One of my heroes. So deserved. What a wonderful man ❤️
This guy deserves the Heck out of all it! So many laughs, so much love. He's definitely a gift brought to millions.

I love Mel Brooks movies. There will never be another like him! We could all learn something from laughter.
He’s looks great and is as funnier than ever. It’s great to see him out and well. It must be good to be the king.
3 Generations of my family had wonderful times watching his works. And he still has the comedic fire burning inside. Legend! Btw its a little late, but great that he got this award.
Absolutely a brilliant genius at comedy
Now THAT is a deserved Honorary Academy Award! 👌🏼 Sometimes, I do wonder why these extra Oscars exist and tend to think of them as pitty-Oscars, but there are a couple of living legends such as Brooks left in this industry, and they are what this trophy was made for. Speaking of respect for living legends: Are some of the people in the background, fortunate enough to be in the same room, EATING WHILE MEL BROOKS IS GIVING HIS THANK YOU SPEECH? 😳
Reminds me when Betty White accepted an award toward the end of her life and made an appearance at an awards show...❣seeing some of these true legends...Dick Van Dyke, etc. being recognized with well done tributes...
A true American legend I’ve never laughed so hard like I still do watching any of his movies Pure genius So deserving Congratulations Mr. Mel Brooks

A hero of my childhood. I couldn't wait til the next Mel Brooks movie came out. There will never be another, and many have tried. He was the original comedic risk taker. In today's PC world his talents would be stifled. So glad we have his works to enjoy forever. This is why we have to preserve physical media.

Your comedy saved my life, Mr. Brooks. Thank you for so many hours of fun over the Decades. May the Schwartz be with you.
Mel Brooks. The man who said what could not /should not /MUST not be said and made us laugh our fool heads off while doing it. Could you imagine the reaction if someone tried to put 'Blazing Saddles' or 'The Producers' on the big screen nowadays? Activists would lose their freaking minds and call him a racist, forgetting all the while that he was a Jewish veteran who worked EOD in occupied Germany and who had made his entire living using sarcasm and satire to hoist EVERY group on their own petard and setting fire to every sacred cow he could fit onto celluloid. Nothing was off limits and nothing too far. 'National treasure' doesn't even begin to cover it. Comedians and commentators the world over owe him a debt that they'll be paying off for decades.

I'm grateful that he was able to make Blazing Saddles and Young Frankenstein before Cancel Culture made it a crime to have a sense of humor.
@carlhicksjr8401
4 ай бұрын
@@scudball1840 There's a fine but distinct line between sarcasm /satire and mockery. Where 'cancel culture' types get it wrong is that if there is any question as to whether or not something was satire or mockery, they automatically assume that it's the latter. They'd rather accuse the insult rather than laugh at the mirror being shown them. Some cancellations are right on target... Kevin Spacey, Bill Cosby, Jussie Smollet for example. Those dudes did crap that got them exiled with every justification in the world. But a lot of activist types also cancel the wrong people for the wrong reason just because it fits their agenda.
When he blew his nose, I thought he was going to say he blew his nose on his notes for his speech.

Mel Brooks is a genius, phenomenal writer
An absolute legend and his body of work is a masterclass in comedy. The way he conducted and conducts his life is a model of class. Rather than lament the loss we will feel when he ultimately leaves us, take it as a clarion call to all in the field to rise to take the baton and carry it forward- that will be a true honor to Mel Brooks. That and re- name the Hollywood Freeway the William J. LePetomane throughway- toll 10 cents
I love Mel Brooks....an absolute legend and one of the funniest people ever
Mel Brooks has meaning in my heart that makes the status of Iconic & legendary seem like small potatoes in my world. I am age 60 now but back when I was 16 years old in 1980 without knowing much about him, I auditioned for a high 😂school musical comedy called “All American” & was cast lead role. My character was Professor Stanislaus Fodorski a European Immigrant who falls for a fellow American colleague. Being a Chemistry/ Physics scholar not knowing much about football, somehow applying logic & academics to how the the game was being coached & perhaps why the team could never win, somehow turns a hopeless football team into state champions. A show that was a couple decades before I starred in it, was a hit 3:15 on Broadway, I found out much later that Ray Bolger, the multi-Award winning Actor/ Dancer who played the Scarecrow in the Wizard of Oz played my Mel Brooks written part in his very own Play that was a success on Broadway long before I knew much about Mel Brooks the mega talent. Today Young Frankenstein is one of my favourite movies.
Living legend
That man really pushed the culture forward. I applaud everything he's done.
Well deserved Mr Mel Brooks!!!! I adore his humor. A real genius
This is also the man we have to thank for David Lynch making the sublime The Elephant Man.

I had the honor to meet Mr Brooks in 2015 in Schenectady, NY when he was traveling around showing Blazing Saddles on the big screen. My daughter got tickets and made it a 60th birthday present. We had pizza for dinner, hey it's NY!, and then went to a little coffee shop to get a coffee and canoli. Who should be there but Mel yukking it up with the owners. I stood aside and when he finished he saw me waiting and came up to me hand outstretched. The first thing he did was ask my name. It seemed so important to him. I thanked him for many years of laughter in mine and my families life. I told him that I drove 17 hours from SC in a '92 Ford pickup to see him and explained the birthday present and pointed out my daughter. Of course she was too starstruck to get a picture. He made me feel important and that the honor was his. What a kind and humble man. It was also a joy to watch the movie with 1500 other fans who all knew every line in the movie. I think he was 93 at the time and sharp as a tack and still is. God bless you Melvin Kaminski!

Greatest american comedian EVER!!! This is one of the wrongest things the Oscars telecast does, eliminate the honorary oscar category from the main show. That always was the absolute HIGHLIGHT from the ceremony. We left very few living legends, you should be celebrating them, AMPAS, instead of sideline them into a minor ceremony. And btw... WHEN you're gonna give JOHN WILLIAMS an honorary oscar???? The man only has more than 50 nominations. About TIME!
There will never be another…and his love for his late “Annie”…legendary couple
Mel Brooks is an incredible film lover and he is absolutely brilliant. A great parody is also an homage. He laid the groundwork for later wacky comedy of the Zucker/Abrahams/Zucker variety. What a treasure!
