    This is the first drummer that really wowed me when I first heard him with Steve Kimmock. There have been others since but Rodney is just so ferociously smooth with constant manipulations of the groove. It’s fantastic can’t believe more people don’t know about him as well.

    💯% accuracy in ratio assessment, you can tell that he has the ability to do plenty fills if he wants to but understands the importance of establishing a deep groove /pocket for the tune to settle down into,... GOOD STUFF RIGHT HERE !! 😉

    Agree with both of you, those are my favorite type of drummers. I think Steve Smith in Journey is a bit like that. Overflowing with talent and skill but keeps things tight and classy and will kill it when he needs to.

    Check out his playing with Santana on the live Supernatural vid. He's amazing in it. And I know it's not a competition but, he made Carter Beauford look like a novice. ;)

    Rodney is so musical and has a wonderful groove. Yes he has chops for days, but uses them sparingly. Listen to the Santana song “smooth”...that him on it. Now you know why it sounds so darn good!

    That was Phat. SO nice to hear one of these vids where it's not like the guy is trying not to wake up a baby asleep in the same room. Or is allergic to playing the snare on 2 and 4. Those kinda vids bore me to tears.

    Rodney!! Legend!!! First time I saw him playing he was Santana's Drummer back in the early 2000's The first Meinl Ride I fell in love with was his Signature Byzance Dark Spectrum Ride 22", I had to sell it in order to move to the states :( but then I got it again when I became a Meinl Artist. Such a great Drummer and a great Ride!!!!! glad to see him finally in these Meinl Sessions !!!

    I got hip to drummer extraordinaire Rodney Holmes when he was playing with a jazz fusion band called special effects in the late 80s, early 90's. Victor Bailey was on electric Bass, the late Vance Loving on Electric Bass. Michael Bearden on keyboards. Then he was gigging with the Brecker Brothers Band for many years. And guitarist Mike Stern.

    Rodney is a very talented drummer and his sensitivity makes him a drummer very above the average. I'm his fan since I saw him playing with Santana and I'm glad to see him drumming on this video.

    Deep in the pocket! I thought the snare sound matched the music perfectly...loved the way he used the ride cymbal towards the end to compliment the rhythm guitar.

    snare drum is a tama slp g birch limited edition. it is 14x6.5 size and is 11mm thick birch shell. die cast hoop on top and triple flange on snare side. when it was sold it was about 300 bucks. it has 45 degre edges. it is one of the best sounding snare drum i have ever heard. at any price range.
