I think the muffling in this song is awful, she sounds like her mouth is too close to the mic. O.o I'm sorry, I've jjust been in the Vocaloid fandom so long I'm super critical of songs and don't always see why other fans like certain ones. I mean, I've likely dedicated my spare time to Vocaloid more then the majority of fans ever will so its not like I'm being mean. I honestly just believe in the right to criticise Vocaloid music, though if you enjoy the song nothing will change your mind on it.Negative and positive feedback is just the same. The issue is common with some Vocaloids so its not entirely iscolated to Luka. I mean Kaito English sounds like his talking with his teeth shut tight together. But Vocaloid tech is far from perfect and honestly. you expect the flaws anyway, you just enjoy the engine despite the flaws. :-)

8 years since the original upload and this song hits me differently than it did years ago and I guess it’s because I’ve experienced so much pain and heartbreak since I first heard it. It really goes to show how much you understand after you’ve experienced something for yourself. I recently started coming back to this song because it felt hauntingly beautiful and then after listening again and again the more I realized how much I’ve grown, where I am now, and compared certain feelings from the lyrics and the simple yet complex melody. While I’m not there yet, it helps me focus on the type of music I want to make as a producer. I want to have fun making it. I want to make something haunting, mysterious, and powerful like this. While trying new things is fun and I still have no idea what I’m doing, I know where I want to go. I guess I have some more songs to make in relevance to my past. I still have so much that I have yet to let go and if my songs can help me do that, then hopefully I’ve mastered my craft and will become the me I’ve always wanted to be. Hopefully from there I can be happier with my own voice as well.

I’ve been through lot of trauma that four years after i’m still struggling to recover from. I have no trust for anyone except people who haven’t gone and let me down when I was at my lowest points. I have only one of those people in my life and he’s the only person I’ve ever met that actually stays around and treats me like a friend no matter what. Unlike most people, he goes out of his way to understand what i’m going through and i’ve never had that before. Luka speaking about distancing herself from someone she loves feels painfully similar to how I used to distance myself from people because I couldn’t take chances with letting people in. She doesn’t feel that deep emotional connection with her partner but she does care and she does love him. It just seems that she can’t feel love like most because she can’t or doesn’t know how to emotionally attach herself to people. I was like that for a while and even now the social part of my brain is basically the least active. I don’t have to form deep emotional bonds to feel happy or keep myself sane because I was raised from a very young age in a situation where I couldn’t trust the people around me. I rely on myself for communication I talk to myself and sometimes I don’t feel like I’m the same person that I was yesterday. Sometimes I write something that I genuinely mean and the next week I can’t even understand what I was talking about or what it meant. I’m always the same person but it doesn’t feel like it when I look in the mirror and see a different reflection for every single day. I distance myself emotionally from all but one person so it doesn’t hurt as badly when people I know nothing about perspective wise eventually get upset, leave, or just don’t know how to respond. I like having answers but I don’t often get them so I don’t have any expectation as well as for people I like having a deep, long lasting, emotional relationship that eventually ends well but I don’t often get that either so I don’t expect it. Sorry for my rant this song hits a personal cord.

I know this probably isn't the meaning, but this tells a completely different story if you assume Luka is lying throughout this song, like the title suggests. Lines like "we'll always be so perfectly happy" and "I don't want you, I don't need you" hit so much differently

I'M NOT KIDDING, I'VE SEARCHING THIS SONG FOR OVER TWO YEARS AND FINALLY FOUND IT

My interpretation of this song is that Luka loves the guy but she doesn't want to stay with him. She acts in a way towards him that can be summarized by "I don't want you, I don't need you, I'll forget you, it doesn't matter" to try and get him to not like her. She does this because she doesn't believe that she is good enough for him, but she can't bring herself to break up with him. "I love you." is her true feeling towards him, which is why she says it quickly, in between verses. Luka speaking about the guy: "No, this is all wrong, why aren't you gone, I know you're not that strong." She says this because she expects him to leave her, not expecting that he likes her enough to stay. "And maybe one day I'll get to see your smile in the arms of someone who loves you like I do." She truly loves him so she wants the best love for him, even if it's not with her. The song is called "LIE" because the way she is acting towards him his a lie. Anyways, both the song and video are beautiful, good job on both of them :) .

Actually, Luka only went out with him as so she can hide her feelings for Gumi. Therefore, her relationship was basically a lie, and a way of her running away to be in a 'perfect' relationship with a man. However, she still harbors strong feelings for Gumi. If you listen to the squeal song I "Love" by Gumi, it's talks about Gumi reaching out for Luka, not only having feelings for Luka as well, but also believing that they're perfect together. Luka still runs away from her, continuing to drown herself in lies. Luka is destroying herself with her lies and by doing so, she's destroying herself; which Gumi, mostly confused on why Luka persist to create such blockage between them, continues to reach out and 'save' Luka because she loves her.

I remember me and my sisters went on a vocaloid spree and heard a bunch of new songs that we never heard before (Lie, Circus Monster, Tarantula, Reboot, Secrets of Wysteria, Hide and Seek, etc.). I love all these songs (Tarantula, Secrets of Wysteria, and Hide and Seek were fucked up though). One day, after nearly 3 years, I remembered Lie and Circus Monster. So I searched it up and started listening and nostalgia hit right when the music started. Not so hard to the point where I'd go to the floor and cry, but it hit pretty hard. I might try to search for all the songs me and my sisters listened to during that vocaloid spree. Okay, I believe this is how the story of "Lie" and "I (love)" is supposed to go: both luka and gumi were dared by their friends to experiment a fake homosexual relationship. Throughout the fake relationship, luka saw the whole thing as a fun joke, but gumi really did fall in love with luka, and convinced herself that luka loved her too. When the relationship dare was over, luka moved on to date gakupo. Gumi, however, never did move on and never stopped loving luka. Eventually, luka got in a fight with gakupo, and broke up with him as a result. Her continuing feelings for him would lead to "Lie". Gumi would see how luka's relationship with gakupo is hurting her, and would grow incredibly saddened that her crush was heartbroken. Her seeing how miserable luka was with gakupo, and believing that luka was still in love with her would lead to "I (love)". I could be wrong with this theory, but it honestly makes sense to me.

I heard this song when I was in middle school severely bullied and alone. But oddly, vocaloid inspired me to draw and just fall deep in the music. It was hard, but I still love it sm today xxx

Another beautifully done song carrying deep emotions. Vocaloid songs for me tend to have more meaning and emotion put into the lyrics like presented in this amazing song rather than actual singers. Well done for creating another amazing song full of meaning, it has brought me to tears. This goes for all the amazing vocaloid producers out there who bring us the blessing of vocaloid songs. Such a powerful song, I used to sing this song to myself, I would picture myself and the part of me that I hated, the one that caused me pain, singing this back and forth to each other. The evil one saying "Why aren't you gone I know you're not that strong." and me at the time replying with "We'll always be so perfectly happy." I was in a toxic relationship with myself and I couldn't let go. The lines "And maybe one day I'll get to see you smile in the arms of someone who loves like I do." Was so confusing to me at the time and I didn't know where to direct it, but now that I'm older and I have someone who loves and makes me smile for real, I realize that that line was from the evil one. I haven't forgotten the evil one, but she's gone now, I sometimes feel bad that I couldn't save her

God I remember watching the streams of this in production. I can't believe it has been so long since then. This still hits so hard even after all of this time. You and Mike Inel did so well on this.

I just, love this song. It reflects my mixed ball of feelings towards my relationship, how I think there would be someone better for him, and how I think my feelings are a facade, although ultimately the love maybe isn't. In these three years, this song has made me cry everytime I listen to it, it just, it's a contradicting and complicated mess of feelings and lies, and it's exactly how I am. And now when the relationship has come to its inevitable end, and I just wanted to say thanks for making this song.

I just wanted to take a second to say how beautiful your music is, and the amount of hardwork you put into this, and all the others that help you. My favorite channel, and my favorite music. I think you do a VERY good job at what you do since i listen to it every day XD. Luka sounds amazing, and you played her perfectly right. She can be a hard Vocaloid to work with, but in the end, you make the music sound so effortless. This in my opinion is very different-sounding than some of your other music, which makes this very exceptional and unique. Good for you. I'd have to say my favorites would be "Lie" and "Goodbye." Super fine pieces of art your producing here. Keep it up. :)

Back then when I broke up with my first girlfriend I cried and listened to this. It brings back memories of my heartbreak and I simply smile at the fact I was able to survived that. Now I’m a happy single person.

This song is actually misinterpreted. It is connected to another song by Circus called 'I (love)' basically it is a love story between Luka and Gumi. 'Why can't it be perfect' referring to Luka wishing that things would be perfect so that she could date Gumi without being ridiculed. 'This love's not even real' Can either be talking about how Luka feels like her love towards Gumi os fake because of all the people telling her that two girls can't date,or it could be talking about her love for a guy that she's dating to cover up her sexuality isn't actually real because she doesn't like men. 'Why don't i cry for you,love was dead from the start' Again,her talking about her fake boyfriend that she's pretending to love. The chorus is a bit complicated,but basically here's a good breakdown for you guys: 'I don't want you,I don't need you,I'll forget you,it doesn't matter' Is her trying to forget Gumi because she can't date her due to homophobia maybie in her household,community,or school 'I'll play along writing our song,we are perfect' Is her trying to convince herself that she likes this guy she's dating as a cover up. 'I love you' Isn't to the guy,but to Gumi,as it seems genuine,because,well,she actually has feelings for Gumi and not this other dude. 'No,this is all wrong,why aren't you gone,I know you're not that strong' Is about Gumi not breaking up with Luka even after her dating a guy,maybie she knows what Luka is trying to pull and doesn't want to leave her true love 'Don't listen to me,we'll always be so perfectly happy' Is a bit confusing to me. It could either be her talking to her 'boyfriend' or to Gumi. The former seems more likely. 'The lies you succumb to,blissfully unaware' Is her talking about how the guy thinks she's straight,it could also be about her family or friends thinking the same thing. Same with the verse 'I don't know how you can't see through my facade' And finally,the verse 'And maybie one day I'll get to see your smile in the arms of someone who loved you like I do' Is her hoping that Gumi will move on and find someone else who can openly love her. A lot of people think that this verse is her wishing the man in the shot at 2:34 to find someone,but she's actually saying this to Gumi. It is here,as well that you can see that Gumi is the girl she is talking about by looking at the hair of the other girl in this shot. This isn't Luka's tragic break-up with a man,it's her hiding her sexuality and not being able to be with the woman she truly loves. Go to the comments of I(love) for really well-done explanations on that song,as well! There are lots,I've just never seen the true meaning of this song commented on the actual 'lie' music video (Edit) Spelling lol

It's been so many years since the first time I listened to this song and it still makes me cry. People are saying how they cried when Luca started crying and fell to the ground, but I always lose it at the first 'No this is all wrong, why aren't you gone...' and keep crying until the very end.
