    Btw the ICV valve you showed at 2:42 is actually from a M50 vanos engine which had the 3 pol style.

    m50s had 2pin ISA valves. m52 and up, aka OBD2 cars had the 3pin ones, where the two coils that open and close the valve are separated into two inputs.

    Great video. Can the same process be used for the warm up enrichment table? Thanks

    Very helpful info thank you! What does crank to taper time do? Is it how fast the idle position goes from the cranking position to the running position?

    It's the idle valve duty during cranking. You can try some different values to see if it helps during startup but I found the default to work well. Once it fires up it uses the regular idle duty table.

    very useful information. the idle valve 0 280 140 516 is used on Volvo cars. I have a similar one but I can't get it to work with a TIP121. It buzzes regardless of the frequency I drive with. Are there other parameters that control it?

    @turbineresearch how do I bump up idle when ac comes on? For my stock ecu there is a wire that comes to the ecu that sends a signal from the AC system when it is on. I’m figuring there is some input into microsquirt that you can work with to bump up idle when the AC is on.

    Great information thank you. I am going to use MS on my project and was wondering if it is possibly to run an electric water pump and fan using the MS after switching off to prevent heat soak.

    You would need a way to keep ECU and device power on after you shut off the car

    On the GM 4 wire IAC does the stepper motor need to be all the closed once the engine is "warm"? My stepper position stays at "40" even after the engine is hot.

    Absolutely, brilliantly clear! My Bug has an MS2 but no idle control - just an air bleed screw on the throttle body. It's okay, but proper idle control would be fantastic. It's not something I've ever done before but this has definitely given me the confidence to give it a go. With those Bosch valves, does it matter which hose is inlet and outlet? And do the valves stay shut under boost, or can the boost pressure force them open a bit?

  • @TurbineResearch

    @TurbineResearch

    They valves are typically plumbed from the intake manifold to the boost piping or intake before the throttle body. If plumbed like that the system is all under pressure when the system is making boost.

    @@TurbineResearch ahh, I think I get it! My car goes turbo - charge cooler - throttle body - plenum. So the valve would take air from the charge cooler (or the charge pipes) and bypass the throttle body to put it into the plenum. Both sides of the valve are pressurised so no boost leak. I was originally picturing it taking air from the atmosphere but it makes sense now. Thanks again 👍

    Just came across your IAC valve installation video and it really helped me out. Many thanks! As I'm running MS2 on a Version 3 board I had to modify my circuit board by adding a higher capacity transistor to power the IAC valve. And because I had already used the Fidle lead to control my radiator fan I had to use another port to control my fan and free up Fidle for the IAC. Everything worked out as expected, but I noticed my Walker 215-1061 IAC valve leaks slightly even when it's fully closed so I can't get the idle speed back to it's original level. Do you know if this is normal for this type of valve because it doesn't seem to have a positive sealing valve inside it like a newer pintle type valve has? I have closed the throttle plate completely to improve the situation, but the vacuum leak is still too high. I'm wondering if my valve is defective, or in a normal installation there are additional tubes that are calibrated to eliminate the vacuum leak? Your thoughts would be appreciated, thank you

    In my experience there are some IAC valves that will default to a slightly open position. I haven’t used the specific valve you have but it may be worth bench testing it with a 12v power supply to see how it behaves off the car

    great video! what do you do with the idle screw on the throttle body on a new tune? do you just screw it in all the way and then adjust the curve or leave it at a random spot and adjust?

  • @TurbineResearch

    @TurbineResearch

    Only adjust the screw for warm idle ( where the idle valve isnt used)

    so i guess ill shut the screw and adjust the curve for cold idle and adjust the screw after it warms up if necessary.

    Anything else need to be done when selecting 'Closed-loop' to compensate for A/C load, e.g.? BTW, if I can get get your thought on this: What can I expect from the Microsquirt regarding idle quality/throttle response when compared to the factory sequential on a rotary? Thank you much!!

  • @TurbineResearch

    Closed loop needs to be configured differently than open loop. I will be making a video on that soon. As far as idle quality and throttle response I would say it's all In how well it's tuned. Idle and throttle response can be better than OE if tuned well.

    do you have any tips for setting base idle map? Should the cells before and after the idle cells be leaner or richer than idle? Or roughly the same? I seem to have some hunting going on, my timing is set at 20 all around idle,so i didnt want to add in timing just below idle timing point just yet as pretty sure there is some correcting to do first fuel wise either side of 900 rpm idle.

    what's good Turbine Research? I'm now tuning my car and I started playing with the IAC control yesterday. my question is about the idle cranking duty steps % table....what's it's purpose and how do we use it properly? thanks

  • @TurbineResearch

    The idle duty steps is the duty cycle of the idle solenoid ( what percentage it’s opening and closing )

    @@TurbineResearch would you happen to know why one is for cranking and one for warm up? I notice when the engine is running, i can work both tables and something happens. The warm up seems to do more, but the cranking does something with bigger swings of the numbers🤔

    so with this set up would it compensate for elec loads like headlights on etc

  • @TurbineResearch

    This is for open loop idle control. You would want to setup closed loop idle that targets an rpm and uses that target to compensate for load

    Which version of megasquirt is this on? I have a 4 wire stepper that I'm planning on using for my V3 Microsquirt but this seems way less complicated.

    It's a microsquirt v2 without any stepper control. It's very easy to setup maybe 10-15min getting it on and working
