@@C0ldD1rective For pirates around this age they were mostly around the tropics and the most common alcohol at the time was rum because of the fact that one of the most common crops was sugarcane which was used directly in the production of rum. Ale required some kind of grain and mead was produced using honey.

@@C0ldD1rective Yes. Every sailor got a rum ration a day. Some brilliant ones thought to save a few days rations and get blitzed. To discourage this they got their rum rations watered down and it was called grog. Harder to drink enough to get drunk if your 5 ounces of rum over five days was diluted in a gallon of water.
