Chile, they were all but blaming her for being in the path of the bullets smh. In this trial, there have definitely been people seeking confirmation bias, in the pursuit of videos and stories both absolving Tory and condemning Megan. A disturbing amount simply wanted Meg to be the villain, and while Meg is not the "perfect victim" (that doesn't exist), she was and is a recovering victim and some people just refuse to accept that.

Great analysis! My key takeaways are: - Many reputable black publications were silent until the verdict was rendered, and some remain silent. - Gender solidarity often trumps race solidarity; some black men would rather believe Tory simply because he is a man, though Megan is also black. - Many women may struggle with internalized misogyny, given their defense of Tory. - For some, no matter what evidence is presented, when their beliefs are challenged, they are more likely to cling tighter to their theories than accept a more logical one.

I’ve been saying this for days. They don’t need to prove Tory intentionally shot Meg. The charges are possession of a unregistered firearm, gross negligence with a deadly weapon, and shoot with intent to cause bodily harm. It doesn’t matter if the shots weren’t exactly directed at Megan the fact is she got hurt due to Tory’s recklessness. I don’t understand how people can’t understand the law and the charges brought against Tory. All they need to prove is it’s Tory’s gun and that he shot it

  • @davruck1

And so why weren’t charges brought against the woman who fired? Why aren’t y’all being honest and saying, ok Tory is found guilty, but the domestic violence narrative is false? The reality is that a handful of sellout Black women like this filthy yeast infected, wicked woman who made this video, want to push their anti Black man narrative. They are sellouts like Kevin Samuel’s and they don’t even know it. Hopefully they join him soon.

0:53 this right here!!!! people don’t talk about it but since megan blew up, people. on social media ( especially on twitter ) have been looking for an excuse or for a character flaw to demonize megan over. first it was she was too friendly, then it became “oh megan’s a social climber” to “oh megan’s an alcoholic” and that has all lead up to the BS we have rn. as sad as it is, ofc people went out of their way to assassinate her character because they’ve been doing that since tina snow. that’s why this whole “oh people don’t critique meg enough” mess just screams red flag to me because 1.) people have 2.) people were already putting the effort into demonizing her long before tory shot her. now let me enjoy the rest of the video 🙏🏿💕

You know what I've always found hilariously sad? Bro code is men backing up other men no matter what, yet girl code is relugated to simply not sexually/romantically engaging with another woman's man. There's nothing about backing each other up or defending one another from an outside group or anything. Like, we women as a collective really don't care about each other at all. We only care that we don't impede on one another's proximity to men, pursuit of men or the male gaze. That's the only way that a woman can know that another woman was shot but be more concerned with who that woman gave vaginal access to. I saw so many comments from women whose main gripe about this entire thing was that Megan slept with someone Kelsey had also slept with and might have liked. As if access to men is so sacred that it should supercede our own fidelity to the group we belong to: black women. Men, regardless of race, do not do this for women, but black women can't wait to toss another black woman aside for just a piece of a low quality man. So when I hear other black women say "We're on our own", I really need for us to understand that for a large portion of us, this means we're on our own individually, not together as a group. There are too many treacherous black women walking around with brains as smooth, shiny and untextured as these misogynistic men. Embarrassing.

Back where l'm from, if anything happens to you as a black woman the first question is what did you do. For example what were you wearing when you got abused. And this question is asked as much by women as it is by men. Women then go the extra mile and say this hasn't happened to them because they are God fearing people who wear decent clothes and don't tempt the devil. In no way are men held accountable. No way. And this megan situation feels the same to me. It's like because this woman sang WAP, is openly sexual, then she deserves whatever abuse she gets especially since she might have slept with this Tory. People were dying to see her comeuppance it feels like. It's bullshit.

I think the term Zimife was looking for is cognitive dissonance. It means people still double down on a idea even when faced with evidence that what they think is not true. It's because we experience disequillibrium when faced with the new info that completely contrast what we think. So instead of standing in the feeling and managing it they do the complete opposite.

What breaks my heart about this case is that before this I thought finally hip hop is getting the equality it so desperately needs. I hope Megan gets the space and grace to heal with or without the public’s input. I hope that we as tribes (black, women, hip hop and the intersections) have proper introspection in how we move forward. Because right now these figures’ words are hot air; when the call for us to be better remains unanswered, or worse, rejected.

This case truly triggered me in ways I didn't expect. I need people to understand that it doesn't matter the age, status, or innocence of the victim. The same way people reacted to and treated Megan being shot is the EXACT SAME reaction/treatment I received when I told that I was molested at 9 by my family friend's father, who had also been molesting his own daughter. My life was threatened (again, I was 9) and I was bullied and mistreated long after his abuse, mostly by the women in his family. Because my uncle had married into this family, I was forced to be around them even though I wanted nothing to do with them (another story for another day). On no level was I protected and I was constantly put in the position to consider the consequences of the adult's actions before my own safety. This mess runs so deep and it has made me very distrusting of people to this day. I cried when the verdict came out. Meg deserves love, support, and protection and I'm rooting for her to win.
